==============================
During the Ming Dynasty, the Chinese fought with the Japanese pirates.
This ancient manual was written and drawn during that period by 程宗猷 (Cheng Zong You), who learnt from 刘雲峰 (Liu Yun Feng). Liu, learnt Japanese swordsmanship, Kenjutsu, directly from the Japanese during that time.
This ancient manual teaches techniques using the 2-hand Longsword or saber, known as Dandao or Miao Dao, against the spear.

Ah. "Sword of the Stranger" music theme. An anime about a group Ming Dynasty warriors in Japan looking for the secret of immortality for the Ming Emperor. Very fitting indeed.
I was looking for some information on google about Ninja's/Shinobi's that was stuck in Korea after Japan retreated in 1598. After the death of Hideyoshi, Tokugawa didn't want Ninjas that was loyal to Hideyoshi back. He stranded them in Korea. Koreans incorporated their Ninjutsu.
Stumbled upon this, very cool.
@seosaidh
Oh, that stance is when you throw the sword up, and catch it again.
It's included inside the form, but I think it's more of a flowery demonstration than for practical usage, thus I didn't bother to demo it. =)
Hello do you still do videos or not
This looks fantastic. I am a student of Western and Eastern martial arts (particularly sword arts), and I love seeing the similarities in technique and strategy in using weapons of a like function and construction. I even recently commissioned an East/West hybrid long sabre (greatsword/nodachi/Miao Dao). It will have a nodachi/miao dao style blade shape, a blade length of 106.5 cm (42 Inches), an overall length over 152.4 cm (60 Inches), and a Western style hilt with a double-ring "S" guard and wheel pommel.
how cool movie and cool guy!! i'm learning aikido but i learn Chinese and tai-chi(太極拳),too.Chinese phenomenon is gracious and very difficult.i practice ma-ma-ma-ma,its just ma,but its difference how to use tongue.我愛中国
Nicer!! Unlike the other video, this has a bokuto with the true shape and length of a miao dao.
Wooooww great job, man! Miao dao is amazing sword!
True.
I like it
Wow, I think y'all are getting better!!
dope video! the video quality is even better than the previous ones but I wished you would not skip some of the demonstrations
Well done, very interesting. Much respect for what you are trying to achieve and I am very glad to see what you have done already...What's more I share your passion for long weaponry. Hope to cross blades some day :). Thanks for sharing. Noble work you are doing.
@jackchn- I had asked the question about the plate at 3:00... basically, I don't understand why the sword is in the air at that point. I don't _think_ you demonstrated such a technique, but maybe I missed something.
There was some weirdness with the post originally, so I thought I'd best see if you were seeing anything I was posting.
Nice video. I will ask you questions in the message area. Thank you for sending this to me - my friend.
very nice movement , i enjoy your videos very much.
Me too
@TinkerWorkshop
Hello!
I'm not sure what you're referring to about stepping lightly or heavily.
In my training, I learn to move from the hips, and then the legs follow. =)
@EntranceDenied
The Ninja in Korea story was made up by Greg Park AKA Chosonninja the Korean who wants to be Ninja but hate Japanese. Tokugawa hired a lot of Ninjas from Iga and Koka before and after Sekigahara. The Koreans are trying to Koreanize Ninja because of popularity of Ninja. Just like they are Koreanizing Wushu outside of East Asia.
To be fair, a lot of shinobi practices were actually Chinese in origin that certain highly skilled samurai and ashigaru scouts used in warfare.
A Chinese Kriegsmesser or even Montante. I think I found my favourite Chinese weapon.
The website regarding your sabre waster isn't functioning at the moment; can you tell me the length, weight and other details regarding it?
Enoch Tuong Is it functioning now?
Jack Chen News: "Website under construction
Please note: site navigation links won't all work until the new pages have been added"

Interestingly, they got this from Japanese pirates. This would be the nodachi in Japanese
Thank you for doing this!
Thank you everyone =)
@jackchn Kinda what I thought. But hey, in the German system we have a picture where the guy unscrews the pommel and throws it at his opponent- who am I to judge?
Rockin' soundtrack, BTW.
Miao Dao is general Qi long army knife;
It is a cool toy, jack.
I want to play with it.
I see the similarities between the Japanese, Chinese and Korean style swordsmanship!
Chinese Congfu is das father of all Congfu styles on earth.
Sword of the Stranger
Stranger saber =Chinese long sword Miao Dao
good job, can see lot of technique are compensate the shear weight of the long sword, using it momentum as it striking force. Any idea how heavy an actual Saber could weight?
excellent
Спасибо,очень здорово.
Well-Done.
I don't see many people doing this form. It's really beautiful to watch.
Also, what is the music used in this video?
Because Samurai are edgier considering the fact Japan copied most of Chinese weapons
@seosaidh
Thank you! =)
Is there a demo somewhere, showing how the pommel is unscrewed and thrown? :)
Jack Chen Well there is a manual that appears in Gladiatoria that depicted a knight unscrewing the pommel of his sword and throwing it but there is no serious videos demonstrating it because a lot of people consider it a kind of Renaissance joke perhaps since it would be totally impractical to do that
Katana were influenced by many other sword designs, the sword forging technique of the Tang dynasty was used by the Japanese, later curved blades from Korea and China influenced the shape. The long saber possibly influenced the katana's shape. The long saber has been used on and off in history for different purposes, such as cutting horses down, or for use against smaller katana. Originally long saber techniques were all chinese, but got mixed with kenjitsu and other sword styles.
Up front, never handled one before and not my particular area of study. That being said, you might be surprised how well responsive it is. Taking an educated guess, they're probably 4-5.5lbs but still fairly agile. Most decent swords used throughout the world were including longswords from different cultures still had geometries to minimize weight and balance them to be responsive. The only ones that were made to be consistantly heavy that I notice are western sabers made in the last 200 years
LOVE IT !!!!!
Good form.
Is the stepping supposed to be so heavy? Understand the heavy step when you are doing the cut, but movement seems a little stiff. I can understand if its a part of the form, though. =)
Sorry for bashing, mate. I speak from Kung Fu, where I was taught to step lightly.
@EntranceDenied
Thank you =)
great
Unbelievable. I suppose iai-jutsu came from this
The first technique, sounds very sus....
Because sword is long
In times of urgency
The user of this sword
you pull mine
And I'll pull yours ....
This looks exactly like katana, but longer, from what I heard, the katana was produced based on the design of butcher knives, so I don't know, did this sabre come first or the butcher knife design come first
I think the butcher knife is another to way to say a single edged blade as the characters used for knife and sabre are the exact same with a subtle difference depending on the country.
@seosaidh
Hi, yes? :)
@EntranceDenied I sent a message via PM.

Have you ever accidently farted while practicing? Did it smell like eggs or did it smell like ammonia?
@BuffonSarutobi You can keep your word Ninja. Every country have their own shadow warrior. China and Korea as well. They just have different names. And last time I check, Japan still uses Kanji, which belongs to China. And guess what? Japanese learned Kanji from the Koreans. The writing system is one of many thing that your Koreans brothers shared with you. Still you go around spreading hate and separation. Your claim of others stealing Japanese culture is rather comical.
@TheMrsmooncakeno1 I would like to take my time talking with you on a private message because the comment section is too limited.
This guy died a while ago when i left this comment.
@EntranceDenied
lol, you guys always use the same far fetched logic. that don't work outside of Korean fantasy world.
Greg!
@EntranceDenied What a ridiculous leap of logic you're arguing. And did ChosonNinja change Ninja's history again? Where's Sayaka's theory now? Did the word 'Ninja' exist in China and Korea? What's the definition of Ninja? According to your logic, Ninja existed in almost every countries.
