No fu**** way!? I just can’t believe that, without even considering the probability how can this guy not be a professional pianist and live though preformance? I mean if he can’t who can? What a waste of talent to have him in a school he should at least teach in a club or conservatory to people who want to learn
Backstory: 2 years ago, as a Christmas gift, my wife bought me your Christmas Sheet Music of this tune. I thought, yeah, no way I could play this!! I'm still dealing with tendonitis, something I am mindful of when I perform. Still, David- you looked like a "machine" to me, and I thought man, I'm inspired to give this a go! I fell in love with the arrangement. I had to play it. I gave it a go in 2021, but the tendons in my left arm would scream at me. I couldn't get through it. I put the sheet music away. Still, David's version was calling me. I had to give it another go this year. I memorized it. Then starting to train my left arm to get through it. I slowed the tempo down a bit which helps. But there are moments in the tune where I take the opportunity to stretch my left arm! That's my tendons are screaming "stop!"😱 I recorded it this morning: ruclips.net/video/D97XyL1EVs4/видео.html. You inspired me man. Thanks!
To anybody reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. may peace and calmness fill your life. ❤
My word! Beyond outstanding-- Mr. Hicken the pianist, rendition, presentation, allure, conceptualization, direction -- everything........Bloody marvelous
I commented on this video 3 years ago but in a different account, and the me back then sounded so amazed and the me now is still VERY the same, Im in a state of relaxation and happiness whenever i listen to this......... David! You are awesome!
After so many years the Bell Carol and this video continue to be memorable and timeless. This is not an amazing piano solo, it is the most amazing, astonishing and remarkable piano solo ever. Bravo David!
Hey, just vibing to your tunes again and felt compelled to say thanks for creating such chill vibes. Your melodies are like a warm hug for the soul, you know?
I can FINALLY play this! It isn't perfect, but I am just about at full speed with a few mistakes here and there. I have been learning piano for about 3.5 years and working on this for around 5-6 months. It won't take you a lifetime if you try. I think I have easily played it over 1000 times. Now I just keep going and going. My hands scream to stop, but I make them keep going.
I have always had dreams of being able to play this, every year I always try and practice the easy version of Christmas Carol of the bells on piano so I can play it for my family. I’ve had a dream that once I found a piano in public and I played this version and everybody just stood there with their mouth wide open, gasping at how beautiful this is. I played piano for almost 8 years now and there is no living where I can get the strength to be able to master this. His finger strength must be amazing to be able to constantly do those melodies nonstop.
Same! I have not playing that long, just 2 years, but I always give up. Don't give up. Keep trying and maybe who knows, but you might become even better than him!
Just discovered your great music, David, and visited your website. I am also a pianist and composer from Shropshire! Really interesting to read about your life.
When my mom died she left me with the skill to play piano and when I saw you play I told myself this is who I want to be, I mean seriously you are one of the best if not the best piano player I have ever seen. This is absolutely beautiful, thank you for sharing this
"Shchedryk" (from Ukrainian: Щедрий вечiр, "Bountiful Evening") is a Ukrainian shchedrivka, or New Year's carol, known in English as "The Little Swallow". It was arranged by composer and teacher Mykola Leontovych in 1916, and tells a story of a swallow flying into a household to sing of wealth that will come with the following spring. "Shchedryk" was originally sung on the night of January 13, New Year's Eve in the Julian Calendar (December 31 Old Style), which is Shchedry Vechir. Early performances of the piece were made by students at Kyiv University.
It has become a favorite carol heard everywhere at Christmas but I wonder how many people know it originated in Ukraine. Thanks for explaining, Edward.
I put in "easy piano Christmas songs that sound impressive" in the search bar. This was second on the list of results. Somehow I don't think this is considered "easy". RUclips, you had ONE job.
But it did produce an extremely impressive-sounding Christmas song played on a piano, which means it found three of the four qualities you asked for. :D
ML Champion it actually is pretty easy!!! I was expecting the sheet music to be impossible but it’s really not. It’s just cuz of how fast he plays it. He gives some tips to make it easier in the sheet music!
It’s actually not that hard to play, it’s just that when people play a simple song, they try to be Mozart by playing fast and adding 5 million extra keys
Yipes! This is Christmas 2022 looking toward our New Year 2023 in a couple of days and I happened upon this diamond piece of music. So appropo and unbelievably brilliant. Thank you, God for sending it my way - this rendition of The Carol of the Bells is good omen for our whole world. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL I. OUR WORLD!
Hello, I know this comment is late, but I want to thank you for composing this piece. I found this by accident, and now I can't stop listening to your music. So again, thank you for composing the music that you do. ^-^
This song is so awesome I’m already three quarters into it....well it’s not nearly as fast but not nearly as hard as I thought it would be.Thank David for this awesome song
I am always in awe when I hear your version of Carol of the Bells! Yes, just listening is beautiful, but when I "see" your fingers dance across the keys...it is truly amazing! I never thought the 2nd party was needed anyway--
I Already posted this a s a reply but then i noticed more people had commented on the lady who was in the video. I personally think she is there to represent and bring forth more of the underlying meaning in the piece, She represent the beauty contained within the sheets. The songs grace channeled into her, every musical note played and produced from the piano becoming her. She is the life force or the essence of the peice. Her "jaunt throughout the woods" the symbolic meaning of the pieces allure and elegance (her) that in my view is contained in such a violent tempo (the woods). Correct me if I'm wrong.
Omg he was my music teacher at school. Love this!
Omg! you serious?! That I sooo amazing!
Oh my God! You found him!
This guy was probably overqualified xD
No fu**** way!? I just can’t believe that, without even considering the probability how can this guy not be a professional pianist and live though preformance? I mean if he can’t who can? What a waste of talent to have him in a school he should at least teach in a club or conservatory to people who want to learn
Wow that’s incredibly lucky lol

To anybody reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. may peace and calmness fill your life. ❤
I wrote a fan-fiction combing two popular anime. A character plays this in it.
After watching many covers I must say this is still the BEST of them all. Amazing. Beautiful. I'm an atheist and I still like the song.
My son plays this every Christmas season at the hotel where he works- it's surprising the number of people who have yet to hear it!
Wow this is INCREDIBLE
A decade later still my favorite Christmas song, let alone Carol of the Bells song. Recording my own version this year. Thank you for the inspiration.
And to think I'm still halfway myself
I can't wait to see it
My word! Beyond outstanding-- Mr. Hicken the pianist, rendition, presentation, allure, conceptualization, direction -- everything........Bloody marvelous
You are the best!
In addition to your technique, *David Hicken* , your arrangement is equally brilliant!

JUST*
233 -.- ... They are haters ... Because they are too dumb for playing the piano, they give dislikes .
+Kyle Hines yah ... But that's okay ... I think haters have no life , you know?
And David has a life, so he don't gives a lagg :D
I agree they are stupid
Perhaps it has something to do with the arrogance of the title, since David's calling his own work "amazing."
Really outstanding video, unique arrangement, performance, David Hicken. I can't wait to listen to more of your music now!
I will practice how ever many years it takes day and night to get on that level :)
and better :)
Nya me to I just got a piano and I will practice day and night
Your Pal Ryan how's it going?
I know the whole song, but not as good as his, obvioisly. took me about 3 months
Good luck with that
One of the all time best Carol of the Bells covers. Minimalistic yet filled with epicness! Simply put: perfect!
I commented on this video 3 years ago but in a different account, and the me back then sounded so amazed and the me now is still VERY the same, Im in a state of relaxation and happiness whenever i listen to this......... David! You are awesome!
Probably one of the best renditions of Christmas music I've heard dinner a while.
My performance tonight was pretty close to this.
Agreed. I'll be expecting a music video in the coming days.
After so many years the Bell Carol and this video continue to be memorable and timeless. This is not an amazing piano solo, it is the most amazing, astonishing and remarkable piano solo ever. Bravo David!

Did I ask
This carol was suppressed by the soviets, who weren't keen on Christmas music.
Thank GOD that I once got on RUclips, looking for that original... but found this!! 😁
