    All these "non-negotiable" and "outrageous" things the writers were asking for were suddenly much more reasonable once they withheld their labor. Interesting.
    It's almost like company leadership can't be trusted.

    There's nothing wrong with comic book movies. What's wrong is that no one wants to be original with creative writing or at least invest in new ideas. Everyone keeps repeating the same stories, shows, and trying to live in the past with sequels. If they allowed the writers to be creative and not political, we could get new stories and characters to fall in love with.

    Scorsese sounds like a grumpy out of touch old man. Comic book films have their place. Not every film needs to be a though-provoking reality based psychodrama. Besides, look at his filmography. Count the number of times that he has worked with either DiCaprio or De Niro. Furthermore, most of Scorsese's films are set in NYC and are about the Mafia or cops. Marvel and DC aren't the only ones in Hollywood with a "formula."

    It's not just superhero movies that are formulaic. This has been an issue in every genre for 2 decades. Some of the very writers on that picket line have also been guilty of repeatedly producing works that are mostly derivative instead of pushing the envelope. *I am very much looking forward to Deadpool 3.* The problem isn't sequels. It's BAD sequels. I don't think anyone can make a valid argument that *Back to the Future* should have stopped at the first one. The trilogy makes the idea complete. Even Scorsese's all-white The Godfather had ONE sequel (we don't acknowledge part 3 🤣).
      People are entitled to have available what THEY like. I hate horror movies, but love Jordan Peele's films. I loved Citizen Kane, and REALLY love Airplane! Top Secret, the Naked Gun series, and all other *ZAZ* movies. And lest we forget, it is easy to jump on the "I hate Marvel Movies" bandwagon, but other movies not doing as well is YOUR FAULT (the public; not you specifically). If you went to see other movies at high numbers, then they would do well, too. For example: *Everything Everywhere All At Once* is a perfect example of a non-comic book movie that did marvelously well at the box office, and then won multiple Oscars. Why? Because People Went To See It!!!

  • @Ashley-xu1lk
    @Ashley-xu1lk Год назад +5

    Superhero movies are fine, franchise movies are fine, original movies with no sequel are fine. That said, there's been WAY too many Marvel movies. The movies (individually) are not the big problem, it's that they've been popping up with too much frequency in the past decade that it feels as if movies nowadays are mainly superhero movies. There's seems to be no room for new ideas, whether those ideas turn into a series or a one time thing.
    A more specific problem with Marvel movies is that everything is interconnected with each other in such a way that it makes the new Marvel movies inaccessible to watch if you haven't seen the last 3 movies or else you'll be watching with little background information needed to fully understand the new movie. As someone who has watched only a few Marvel movies, has not read the comics, and not in the community, I am SO tired of hearing about Marvel, particularly if they come out with a new movie or series. There's some Marvel movies/show I'm somewhat curious about but the oversaturation of Marvel has repelled me from looking into it. Especially if it's practically the same formula for everything they output.

    Saying that if you only watch Scorsese movies you only get white protagonists is an incredible straw man. Scorsese isn’t arguing that his movies are the only ones people should watch at all. He’s arguing for putting a personal vision on the screen instead of a corporate vision with no risk and no challenge to the audience. Bad argument.

I love all kinds of movies, but I know not everyone is a rabid *ZAZ* and *Mell Brooks* fan like me. I don't feel the need to attack those who prefer serious, all white movies, so why should Scorsese be attacking films that BILLIONS of people around the world love?!! With that in mind I had a friend when I was younger that made me watch Goodfellas. After watching Goodfellas I kinda went down a Scorsese rabbit hole, and ever since I've been a fan.
      Yeah, he's old that's for sure. But I've watched most of his movies and most of them are absolute bangers. So when a genius with that kind of resumé says something about his craft, you can bank on it. He's just saying the words we know are true but we don't want to hear. Hollywood seems to have run out of story ideas and are going back to comic book because it's easier than coming up with something original. That's why there are so many "reboots", "remakes", and "prequel", they ran out of ideas.
