Highways going through towns is not the right way to go. Skirting Spanish Town, Old Harbour, May Pen and Mandeville have had a positive effect on these towns. The towns beyond May Pen on highway 2000 are the present problems.
An exit should be made to accommodate as much of these towns as economically possible.
There are some towns like Morant Bay that will not be able to get expanded to 4 lanes.
Going around towns like this one would have an exit for people who are doing business there.
The north coast highway is a case in point. Going through these towns is presently a traffic nightmare at rush hours.
A new alignment also have the potential to cause development of new areas that are adjacent to the highway.
Also remember that a highway around an existing town increases developments in these towns, they therefore will have more traffic in the town. Old Harbour is a perfect example. This is the reason that there must be an exit and entrance for Porus and Clarendon Park. This will increase business opportunities in these areas.
Let us not waste the time of people who would be forced to go through towns and yet they have no reason to go there.

The high level discussion between government officials and some stakeholders with connection to Negril regarding the best size and also the best location for the international airport is a step in the right direction. Hopefully recent political directions been taken will allow the process to continue to full implementation. This is a project that I believe can be completed in another two years. Incidentally some of the American Airlines flights to the Ian Fleming International Airport are already booked out.

Nice that the flights to Ian Fleming booked out. Hopefully they extend the runway to allow the big planes to land

Those flights to Boscobel can only accommodate about 76 people so they may have to increase the flights

Which town does any of our highways pass through? They all skirt towns leading to economic disaster.I am wondering if the concept shouldn't change to one of expanding existing roads to accommodate better traffic flow? Flyovers and exits would solve the problem of traffic flow, while allowing communities to still benefit. Acquiring properties along the road where necessary would possibly still work out cheaper. As you yourself have pointed out, places like Faith's Pen have suffered badly.

Whenever the local road users are left out by not including exits from highways to their towns, toll receipts will dwindle. For example., I would not take the highway to Williamsfield in order to get back to Porus. That's nonsensical and counterproductive. The people using these highways more frequently are not those who usually bypass the towns but those who live in the surrounding communities.
