Scuff with red pad, etching primer, light wet sand it, then color and clear. I like using wheel clear coat. Removing the texture is a lot of extra work to do the same job you could do with self etch primer. Love the dedication you put into your work bro, only saying what I've always done in case you've never tried that way! Good clean look on that truck now
Self etch is for metal. It has some sort of acid that bites into metal, primer is pretty useless on plastic unless your using it to get a different shade of base color. For plastic all you need is some bulldog adhesion promoter
@@rigoreyes442 Agreed! Don't use self etch. Do use an adhesion promoter. Bulldog is great but if you're on a budget Rustoleum and Duplicolor adhesion promoter is good too and under half the price.
Very informative video! I have a 2013 f150 that I’ve done many mods to and I’ve slowly “de-chromed” it but I have left the door buckets & handles but I was wondering if you would do some for me and if you would, you could just let me know how much it would be plus shipping, etc.
I want to know your wheel based set up I love that and I wanna know what all you got doing on I have. 2014 f150 and I wanna do this exact thing you just did but I don’t know much about this lol
If you follow these directions your paintwork will be short lived. Once you have sanded the plastic, you have to use plastic adhesion promoter to ensure that the job will last. Without promoter the prime will not adhere to the plastic very well and it will eventually fall off along with the finish paint. Just sayin...........
Hey, how do you make sure it’s the same exact white color. Because I payed some guy a lot to color match my mirror and they are not the same color and they are already chipping 😢
Tjsquared, hey whats up, beautiful work. I actually did all these steps but I don't have that smooth body gloss. I used 1k clear and a non-high build primer. Do you think it could be the clear or something else? I'd appreciate any direction you can give. peace.
I'd definitely start with the clear coat! 1k products will never lay out like 2k products. Find yourself a good clear coat. What type of primer are you using ?
@@tjsquared2158 Hey thanks for getting back to me. I'm using a Rustoleum 2-n-1 filler and sandable primer. I'm thinking to fix it, all I have to do is lightly scuff and add the 2k clear. Or should I scuff and prime again then add the clear. Let me know what you think please and thank you?

Automotive touch up sells what you need. First adhesion promoter. Then, sandable primer, then sand that smooth with 600. Lay base. Then 2k clear.
Great video on painting textured plastics. You helped out a lot
No problem! If you have any questions please feel free to reach out!
@@tjsquared2158 thanks! Best of luck with the channel

Any issues with it sticking or peeling? I'm trying to paint all the texture plastic on my vehicle to match. But the bodyshop saying it can't be done.
