I ride with a Schott cafe jacket. They aren't armored, but that's beside the point. The reason leather is good for riding is abrasion resistance. Synthetic materials can have high abrasion resistance yet can still burn your skin through heat transfer even if they don't wear all the way through. Leather does not transfer friction heat. No leather jacket is going to be all that warm if it's cold out, but it stops wind penetration which makes a huge difference. If I layer under the leather, I can wear my Schott in cold weather.
I own a black 654 that broke in beautifully and is only getting better with age. A few months ago I purchased a 530 in brown. . The store was closing and everything was 75% off, I ended up paying $200 for a jacket that will probably outlive me!
Lucky guy, i got several leather jackets but i cannot say they will outlive me, probably just a couple two, a very thick vintage cowhide jacket (A leather similar to the 530) which was originally made by Dockers as a spread collar delivery jacket but got modded into a Cafe Racer, it is also pebbled black leather. I ordered to some tailor friends here in the city to put zippers on the sleeves, a mandarin / band collar and shorten the overall zipper length so i can ride comfortably with the thing zipped up. I also took out the original lining, since the armpits were kinda smelly and i had to correct that. It was better since the original lining was extremely hot and they put a thinner, simpler lining. The other one is a thin, lightweight calfskin leather but that leather is extremely rugged and came rigid out of the tannery, so it is pretty much similar in texture and resistance to horsehide. Both costed around 100 dollars each with repairs and modding included. I just can hope the jackets will last at least most of my life or the entirety of it. If not, i will need another one made out of even thicker and younger leather, since the Dockers one i am guessing is already some 30 years old or stuff.
My lord, this is exactly the jacket I've been looking for. I live in a small town and have a very short commute, so this is perfect for that short bike ride to work, then the coffee shop after work, then the bar, and finally back home. The price is not prohibitive, but the IDEA of ever blemishing this beauty from a bike fall sure as hell is. Appreciate the great review!
Excellent review my friend. Just bought a used Schott 141 made in 1996 that is in super nice condition for $300.00. The leather itself is very nice after a close examination and the craftsmanship is awesome. After deeper research on the type of leather the 141 is made of (Naked Leather) I was really impressed. Naked Leather is choice select leather with NO scars or imperfections or finishes other than the dye itself. Top Shelf jackets!

You’re absolutely correct with everything you said. And by the way, Schott doesn’t make the best leather jackets, that’s just absurd. They are really good, and they are very famous. Fair enough, but claiming they make the best leather jackets (and their Cafe Racee was be the best jacket ever) is just nonsense. I don’t like it when Fashion RUclipsrs make that kind of statements, it’s not like Nick didn’t know it better. Oh, and his jacket *is* too short ..
@@justinafuchs2619 Hey Justina I just turned 70 yrs old in Jul23, been riding motorcycles since 1975 and have put down hundred of thousands of miles. I started searching for a good leather jacket when I got my first bike and that search was a long one lol. Most new jackets cost around $50-75 bucks back then. Every jacket I bought would have a problem, sleeves too short/too long, jacket too short or long, leather was too thin/dry out and crack, zippers breaking etc, etc. I spent years riding with poorly fitting jackets just like the other guys I rode with and just figured that was the way it was. I have had jackets from a lot of the major manufactuers and they were OK. About 1990 found out about Langlitz Leathers in Portland, OR and had a jacket custom made cost me $1200. It was pretty nice but about a year later I went down in a rain storm and it got torn to pieces but it provided a lot of protection for me. Eventually met a guy at a bike show in Las Vegas and he raved about his Schott Perfecto and let me try it on. I now have three Schott's 618, 141 and 689H, Schott is all I have worn since 1992 and IMO they are the best made leather jackets I have found, but that's just this old bikers opinion which doesn't really mean much I guess. I also have to say that in the biker world, Schott is hugely popular, I would guess over 50% of the guys at biker events are wearing Schott and that has to mean something, it is easy to spot them. Stay safe out there!
@@RICKYY1100 Hey, thanks for your input! It was great to hear from your experience, and of course I value it. Please don’t get me wrong, Schott makes great leather jackets, as I said before. And if I still rode a motorcycle, I guess I would wear a Schott jacket. Now if we’re talking about leather jackets in general, there are better jackets than Schott. There is Himel Bros from the US, they make fantastic leather jackets. I don’t know if I would wear one riding, but you definitely could wear it. Then there are the best Japanese leather makers like Rainbow Country, Flathead or The Real McCoy. Or Aero leathers from Scotland. Those companies make the best leather jackets in the world, and to be fair, they are much more expensive than Schott leather jackets. And I wouldn’t wear most of them riding, I don’t think a flight jacket from The Real McCoy is meant for it. They are just beautiful leather jackets, crafted by Artisans using the best leather in the world. Again, that doesn’t mean Schott jackets aren’t good, they are great! The Perfecto would be my favourite choice if I didn’t stop riding a long time ago. All the best and always drive carefully 🙏
You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to leather. $800 is a steep investment for some, but it's a small price to pay for something that will, if taken care of properly, last you a lifetime.
Nice video! Is there a model of this jacket that is a bit longer? I’m tall (6 feet) and have a long torso, and would like for this to fall below the belt line.
A really excellent review, best leather jacket review I have seen to date! Great jacket, fit looks fine, much prefer it to the Marlon Brando biker style, all round really good 👍 subbed as well, stay safe.
They originally made them in NYC. They moved their outfit. Many clothing companies are call (fill in the blank) NYC despite not being made in NYC. To make another point, The author say that Schott makes the best leather jackets. In other news water is still wet, the Sun is very hot & grass is really green.
Can you review Thursday jackets? They offer a really cheap quality leather jackets. Coming from their success in boots, I'd love to see you review their jackets

If you want a bad ass, quality, affordable leather jacket, look up Soul Revolver online. I have 4 of their jackets and they are as good quality as you’re gonna get and they have a large selection so there’s something for everyone. I was skeptical at first buying a somewhat pricey item online without even trying it on but they all fit great, mainly because they ask you for your measurements so although it’s not exactly tailored it’s pretty dang close. Their customer service is also fantastic. No I don’t work for them it’s just one of those finds that makes you want to share it with people lol. Look up their TrustPilot reviews. Pretty much 5 stars across the board. That speaks for itself.
Really, really nice - the linen is great as well as the slim fit. I also use a hoodie under neath, so it can be used 'all' year. thanks Mate 👍🏼 Cheers from Denmark 😊🇩🇰
Talking about the sizing, I had a 654 in large that fitted a bit slim with a 44 chest, but after a year of working out it couldn't stretch big enough to fit me anymore. So my warning is if you plan on starting to bulk up do not size down. Also the Mission P571 is a somewhat similar jacket but unlined. Any plans on reviewing that one? I ask because it has gussets but no biswing so would that make a big difference in flexibility?
I was just looking at buying the p571. Going to store to see how it fits. And yes without the bi-swing it will have a tighter fit around the back/shoulders. I also out grew my size small 530 from the gym. Is what it is. That's the price you pay with bodybuilding.
Lovely Video for a kickass jacket! I would also like to see a review for the leather jackets of Thursday Boot company and perhaps a comparison between them both
You know it's not THAT expensive for a quality leather jacket, a lot of companies (like Armani) charge well over $1000 for theirs. It's like a Red Wing jacket: solid, dependable, more than you'd want to pay but just as good if not better than some ridiculously expensive contenders :)
It does seem expensive, until you realise how durable they are. My first one lasted 25 years, which works out pretty cheap per-wear. I just bought my second one last year, after my first one finally wore out.
Great looking jacket! I like that you mentioned that it is cowhide leather and it is also 1.3 to 1.5 mm of thickness. However, some people who have experience on leather are concerned about the middle stitching on the back of the jacket, that it might not hold too long and could come apart. They advised to avoid purchasing leather jackets with the middle stitching on the back. What would you say to that? By the way, I recently purchased a motorcycle leather jacket made of premium buffalo leather. It is full grain and 1.3 thick. I'm happy with my jacket however I feel quite concerned about the middle stitching on the back of my jacket because it come apart.
I’ve had mine about 4 years now. Seam has never been an issue, it’s been worn every winter, in all kinds of weather, on planes, while driving. About the only thing I do is hang it on a proper hanger, the one that came from schott.
@@watchreport Wow! 4 years and still your jacket is holding up well! Thanks for your tip! Now I feel confident that my jacket will last long as long as I take good care of it.
I have the exact same leather jacket but minds is from lucky band store cost $300.00 but at discount got it for $125.00. My fit is medium size, but got it in a large fit.
I had one of these jackets for 25 year, and wore it several times a week over all those years, until it finally fell apart. Replaced it with a brand new one last year, and expect that one to outlive me.
Hey Nick, fantastic jacket and great in-depth review. I had a couple of questions- the garment chest measurement is 45", and you mentioned your chest was 46" Does the leather have enough give, to be comfortable to you across the chest? Secondly, the jacket seems to sit great on your shoulders- if you dont mind, could you share your shoulder measurements? Cheers!
Beautiful Jackets, but the plastic lining kills it for me, i felt the same way when i had seen Thursdays jackets, i'd always be willing to pay a extra 50+ dollars for a jacket to be lined in natural materials.
This is an awesome jacket and its on my grail list. The problem with investing in something like this is, especially since its a modern fit, is that is my body shape REALLY going to fit into this jacket just as well in 10 years? That is putting a lot of pressure on my future self to keep hitting the gym lol
Ha! I know exactly what you mean. It'll keep you in shape! I have an opposite problem, my goal is to deadlift 500 pounds in a couple of years and that means purposely gaining a good 10-20 pounds, then all my nice clothes won't fit anymore!
@@Stridewise Nice one Nick, the best i could deadlift before covid was 390pounds, getting to 500 is pretty solid, you'll have to adjust the thighs on your pants too haha Love your channel mate, have watched most of your vids. Im in Melbourne but my brother lives in NY, great to catch up if we are ever in the same city!
Can you or someone please give me your thoughts on this jacket compared to the Raven p213, which is a modified Perfecto style but it's veg tanned lambskin. Supposedly super supple yet durable non-strething. I know the p234 is a cafe racer in lambskin but offered only in black for some reason.
Normally I'm recognized on BarBend from Stridewise, not the other way around haha. All my denim I review is for people who squat and deadlift a lot, they all have big thighs. Except the Iron Hearts, that model wasn't great.

The double rider is goated 🔥
Nice jacket - I actually like the liner. I've had my eye on the Storm (P 673) for a while. I hope all is well.
Thanks Matt! You too dude. Hope you get a jacket you love.
This is what you called a perfect leather jacket🥰🥰🥰🥰
You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to leather.
$800 is a steep investment for some, but it's a small price to pay for something that will, if taken care of properly, last you a lifetime.
Yeah you simply have to bite the bullet with leather jackets haha
Glad to have you, Mike! Glad you like the video, I worked extra hard on this one. Much easier to pull off than the Perfecto :)
Schott "NYC" jackets are actually made in Jersey? Consider my feather ruffled. 😅
Haha they should call it Schott Tri-state Area
Just like the NY Giants who play in New Jersey
@@wsmoran Don't get me started!
Hi
Please do a review on Soul Revolver jackets ....
The Deal or Hitman (name of jackets)
Pretty cool designs
They originally made them in NYC. They moved their outfit. Many clothing companies are call (fill in the blank) NYC despite not being made in NYC. To make another point, The author say that Schott makes the best leather jackets. In other news water is still wet, the Sun is very hot & grass is really green.
I love the jacket. The brown is my preferred.
Can you review Thursday jackets? They offer a really cheap quality leather jackets.
Coming from their success in boots, I'd love to see you review their jackets
Have you ended up getting one? If so, which one and are you satisfied with it.
Please more reviews on high quality/durable/BIFL classic Jackets!!!
I just use Saphir renovateur on my leather jacket, I'm going to buy the Nappa conditioner or universal cream possibly in the future.
It must cost you 50 bucks to condition your jacket with Saphir, Alex!
@@Stridewise that doesn't sound good. Any recommendations? Luxor?
subscibed, i bought one of a friend as new condition he got it in a sale for about £200 boughgt it for £150 looks great over a black high neck jumper, fitted minimilist smart and with blue classic colour 501's with chelsea boots i prefer,Ron u.k.
Just bought one today, I love it!
hell yeah Maulin, great decision!
@@Stridewise I also have the Schott Perfecto 613… I’m thinking I might get it in brown for Christmas
Price has gone up 100 dollars since this video was made. Inflation is a hell of a drug
Oh boy, that jacket looks beautiful!
Really, really nice - the linen is great as well as the slim fit. I also use a hoodie under neath, so it can be used 'all' year. thanks Mate 👍🏼
Cheers from Denmark 😊🇩🇰
Glad you liked it, Hans!
the best review that I've never seen before
That's high praise! Thanks a ton dude
Good morning Would you be so kind as to give me your measurements. What size did you take? A big thank you to you
Lovely Video for a kickass jacket! I would also like to see a review for the leather jackets of Thursday Boot company and perhaps a comparison between them both
Never thought I'd wear a leather jacket, but this one might change my mind. Cost is a killer though.
You know it's not THAT expensive for a quality leather jacket, a lot of companies (like Armani) charge well over $1000 for theirs. It's like a Red Wing jacket: solid, dependable, more than you'd want to pay but just as good if not better than some ridiculously expensive contenders :)
@@Stridewise guess you are right.
Buy used you can get a lot more for your money
It does seem expensive, until you realise how durable they are. My first one lasted 25 years, which works out pretty cheap per-wear. I just bought my second one last year, after my first one finally wore out.
Great Leather Jacket Schott
I'd avoid a jacket with a middle seam..... unfortunately Schott are getting pretty sloppy in their hide sourcing
Looking cool brother.
Is the jacket Slim fit or Very slim fit.
Thanks.
Slim fit. I’m 6.0, 220 and have an XL. It fits me perfectly and I can zip it up no issue, even with a hoodie.
I have the exact same leather jacket but minds is from lucky band store cost $300.00 but at discount got it for $125.00. My fit is medium size, but got it in a large fit.
Got damn, this jacket for 125? Congratulations, I'd be so happy with that
@Stridewise i have a 42-43 inch chest and medium is tight. Do you still advise for me to go with Medium. The size fit shows M for slim
eXcloz is the brand ive seen ever producing leather jackets. They have quality products
Fantastic jacket.
It really is!
How do you clean / wash your jacket ?
I had one of these jackets for 25 year, and wore it several times a week over all those years, until it finally fell apart. Replaced it with a brand new one last year, and expect that one to outlive me.
Awesome! 25 years, I love it. Would love you to send me pictures of it as it neared the end of its life!
Cheers!
@@ronin_naga kaam nahin hai koi? :-)
I was like, "where do I recognize this guy from?... BARBEBND!" lol awesome
I have 2 jackets from Schott.
For cafe style prefer my Helstons.
OK so your Schotts must be Perfecto and... what's the other one
does this model, the cafe racer (style 530), have inserts for armor? for elbows, shoulders and back?
I just bought the 130 in Mocha color. Beautiful
Excellent, delighted you got a leather jacket you love. That's a special moment in a man's life haha
@@Stridewise Nice one Nick, the best i could deadlift before covid was 390pounds, getting to 500 is pretty solid, you'll have to adjust the thighs on your pants too haha
Love your channel mate, have watched most of your vids. Im in Melbourne but my brother lives in NY, great to catch up if we are ever in the same city!
@@starskymedia Dude hit me up if you come to town
@@Stridewise Will do mate!
Good looking jacket...someoftheir jackets are not offered in big sizes
Wow, That does look good. And I would wear a Jacket with everything is I spent a thousand dollars for it. lol
Had a 519 in medium, it fits me quite well, but perfectos are not really my style
just bought a 530 off of ebay in medium hopefully it fits.
Cool, good luck! Yeah Perfectos get a lot of hype but I really think that most people cannot pull them off, myself included. They're too much!
Have you ever had a 613 perfecto. What size did you have to wear.
Can you or someone please give me your thoughts on this jacket compared to the Raven p213, which is a modified Perfecto style but it's veg tanned lambskin. Supposedly super supple yet durable non-strething. I know the p234 is a cafe racer in lambskin but offered only in black for some reason.
How does this compare with the Allsaints Cora jacket?
I see these on eBay with the black furry lining but they look like they’re way more boxier in the chest?
Recognize you from Barbend! Maybe you can make a video on good raw denim brands/models for us people who squat and deadlift a whole lot? 😁
Normally I'm recognized on BarBend from Stridewise, not the other way around haha. All my denim I review is for people who squat and deadlift a lot, they all have big thighs. Except the Iron Hearts, that model wasn't great.
I’m just wondering how you put on a hoodie and a Henley under that jacket.
Surprising it fit, right? Downside is I can't zip it up when I have a hoodie underneath, it's too tight
