I believe the a-bomb farming/plowing type thing they briefly mention around 7:45 is in reference to Operation Plowshare. IIRC, basically it was something like blowing up a-bombs underground as a source for energy or excavation. Don't remember the details but apparently some of the stuff involved was later applied to modern day fracking.
Yup, actually the idea of using nukes to "build" a new Panama Canal was floated by JFK (he even had the AEC do an official assessment) and stuck around for quite a while. And one of the intial proponents of such ideas was indeed somebody (Edward Teller) the character "Dr. Strangelove" was based on.
@@SockPuppet80 he is, but he is an amazing producer and humble. I dislike his voice on the podcast but when he is with Matt on Hell on Earth and Dead Presidents he is awesome and his voice hits the right note. He was a fan and got hired after Brendan left. Brendan for my money is more than a producer, and an artist. Young Chris will probably be one too one day. Till then he is a true artisan. And he rocks too.
"You're the one adult human being in Brooklyn that still drinks regular Coke."
"That's right, that's why I'm gonna be dead soon. Thank God."

ladedade23 ohhhhh that explains a lot...
It's the Coke what did it.

Did you compensate your employees fairly?

"August 25, 1917" My man been playing Call of Cthulhu too hard and got his dates mixed up. Stop gaming, Matt.
I thought I was going insane for a second trying to figure that out
He's desperately begging for the October Revolution to come back

Project Oilsands was a plan floated in the late 50s to detonate nuclear bombs underneath Alberta in order to make oil drilling easier.

All presidents should be required to be pro-Jurassic Park
Haha that last line kills me!
"We're going to create the Mer race."
These pretzels are making me thirsty!!! where is the tabletop game theory episode?

Project Orion was an entirely legitimate peaceful use for nuclear weapons and if we weren’t so goddam squeamish it’d have got us to Mars in the 80s
Does Matt know we nuked the upper atmosphere once? Just because. Then we named it something stupid.

Great Being John Malkovich reference.
I would love to see a video of this, would be nice.
A video of what? Them talking into a mic?
@@TheSpiritOfTheTimes yeah, just to see the faces they make
Never meet your heroes
I hate whenever Brendan gets on mic. He sounds like a fan of the podcast trying to verbalize twitter quips
Brendan's actually pretty good on the mic. This is Chris Wade who, yes, sounds like a bit of a fanboy.
SockPuppet80 you know he is the dude who posts these right? Also the irony in these two posts is fuckin choice, dog.
