Takes me back to a place and time that's so difficult to get to, almost forgotten, in a period of America that will never exist again. Thanks for posting this treasure and I'm glad so many of these guys survived and are doing well.
Jersey Soul, these guys had a hit written by Gamble and/or Huff of Philly soul fame with this in 1967, and they look like they've hardly aged! Thank you for this.
I was there in wildwood NJ every night watching these guys and crushing on them. When they told us they were making a record Of this song and I was first to hear it. How do you like that!! I love you guys still after all these years. You're great!!!
Two drummers, 2 guitar solo's, vocals off the chart and sheer joy all up on the stage. It just doesn't get much better than this, to all the musicians and person that posted this.... Wethanksya.
You're very welcome . I am Kenny Forgione the nephew of original Soul Survivor drummer Joe Forgione . I'm the guy with the long hair singing the high harmony . One of the drummers is Carmine Appice from Rod Stewarts band and the Vanilla Fudge . This show was a pure joy ! I put this show together and it included members of Billy Joels band, Badfinger and of course the Soul Survivors !
I met this band in Philly one night when they were playing at a wedding. I got to run around with them for a while. It was quite an amazing adventure for a 17 yr old hayseed from Ohio.
Thank you so much for saying that. I was thinking the same. I was an 11-year-old girl when I bought this 45 in 1967. And I'm still finding that line to be beautiful and Incredibly moving.
It does my heart good to see these guys up there doing their thing after all these years. I grew up on them, since infancy. I used to stare at their album cover as a very small child and just know I was looking at something very, very cool, and the music was even better. These guys should have gone much further than they did, but I'm thankful they have always been in my life.
I missed this performance. Both of them actually there. Well, better late than never. Great memories of hiking. Thanks to these guys. There souls survived.
I was but a child when I first heard this tune and it has morphed to my everything, up and until this very and exact moment! Trust me when I say, it don't get more better than this! And, that is a good thing... Thank you, Soul Survivors! Thank you for getting caught in rush hour. It allowed me to catch a glimpse of truly great music and great musicians. Peace. Love and everything else that truly and really matters... Live on and Rock!
Hot damn, this is fantastic. I love it! Thank you so much for sharing. I had no idea this video even existed. They sound awesome and look great. Yes indeed!
Thanks, Bob, for sharing this gem with us! What a treasure! I've seen and been to concerts where the performers from the 60's, 70's, & 80's just went through the motions, but Soul rocks it like they originally did!
Jesus, these guys can still kick ass! So many old rockers have way more soul than the kids that make zillions, live like kings and all the rest. Justin Timberlake? Bieber? These guys, (Soul Survivors) in their prime would smoke them off the stage - and, all these years later can still rock the house!!
My god this tune rocked...evokes such a time and place in music....Oh Ho! You guys have bombed, aced, rocked and wound this tune round for us to see today and do the retro and revisit and then some. Kudos to every one of you on that stage!
I can't imagine how many times the original members must have performed this song, but they do it here convincingly(!) like there's nothing in the world they'd rather be doing. 👍 Man! Those two brothers sound like back in the day only better. (Yikes! I was 14 when that was all over 🎵93 KHJ🎵 here locally.)
I did not know the name of this song.until TODAY! L loved it reminds me of younger days ! Happy Thanksgiving, finally finding this song makes it happier !!
i had a deli on pitkin ave in ozone park and joey forgione had a wonder bread route at this time in 1986 and he used to deliver twice a week and tell me storie s about his band while we played rummy head up in the back lol . He was a gentelman and a good hearted person . When i heard the news of his passing i was really hurt . RIP JOEY / PLAY THOSE DRUMS ......................
I'm Kenny Forgione Joe's nephew . I'm the long haired singer here with these guys . I put this show together and asked the Ingui brothers of the Soul Survivors to do a tribute to my uncle and the result was a pure joy with Carmine Appice(Rod Stewart, Vanilla Fudge) on drums and Tommy Byrnes(Billy Joel) on lead guitar . My band is the core band Wonderous Stories . This was a cool gig !
I worked for Cameo Recording studio as a receptionist in Philadelphia back in the 60’s👏🏻😌🎶🎸💖and really liked meeting a lot of stars such these guys🥰actually they drive from up state NY down to Philadelphia onto the expressway to record a nice memory🎼💌
Richie, and Charlie,we're dear friends When Ritchie,a gentle soul man, passed,I was devastated....Philly soul, the precursor to Hall and Oates. If you know Ritchie....you know.💐🦋
Yes, a number 4 hit single in the US, "founded by New York natives Richie and Charlie Ingui and Kenny Jeremiah, known for their 1967 hit single "Expressway to Your Heart", which was the first hit by Philadelphia soul record producers and songwriters Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff." THEIR FIRST HIT of so many more to come!
Philly rock soul at its best with a great song from Gamble/Huff. With DJs like Hy Lit, Georgi woods and the Geeter, Jerry Blavat playing the soulful tunes, it stands to reason that soul would be the heartbeat of Philly.
No Julie, that is Tommy Byrnes of Billy Joels band on electric guitar. Carmine Appice is one of the drummers. The other drummer is Ricky Martinez of Wonderous Stories.
You're Blessed to be related to such talent!... I have a question though,..who was the "original lead singer on this track", is it the guy who is singing?....
@Mark Ehrlich (lol)...I was just thinking that..even before I even read your response! I said to myself "if these guys aren't the actual lead singers, they sure as heck sound like them!! Thanks for the verification, sir! 🤝
1986 I picked my son up at a birthday party with a little guy name Sonny from his kindergarten class. Sunny’s dad was Richie he lived just down the street for me where I had a nursery. Richie wasn’t home when I picked my son up but his wife Cheryl was. I saw the equipment and Asked you guys in a band she said yeah my husband‘s in the soul survivors and I said the soul survivors she said yeah and I’m thinking she’s kidding me. She said we’re playing at the New Jersey State fair. My wife and I have the time went sure enough it was the band. So I’m again in a small club in Bensalem Pennsylvania. Richie and I became pretty good friends we would run into each other at the Wawa in Evesham New Jersey getting coffee. Tell me how he and his brother would learn to sing the blues from all black guys on the streets of New York City. Sorry to hear of his passing four years ago. Keep on rockin Richey peace
Here is the entire set from Charlie and Richie Ingui of the Soul Survivors the night of this show . I reconstructed George Harrisons "Concert for Bangladesh " and they were extra added guests along with Carmine Appice on drums and a bevy of great musicians . My uncle Joe Forgione was the original drummer in this band and had passed away a few years before . enjoy ruclips.net/video/zDh7wdcvOSs/видео.html
So great to find this video of Charlie and Richie on RUclips...brings back awesome memories of hanging with them at our apartment on St Marks Place...back when I was with Carmine 😍
Richie saw you sing sam and dave tune outside gambles spot on south broad st couple years back told you you sung it better than than them.RIP my brother-SURE NUFF- the bear philly
@@RadiantShadow69 The Schuykill Expressway (Interstate 76 = I76) is a highway running through Philadelphia. It is prone to daily highway congestion during rush hour. The car horns you hear on the opening of the original vinyl were recorded during a traffic jam on the Schuykill. I hope that is helpful to you. Peace.
Wow. They still sounded good after all those years. One of my favorite songs.
Takes me back to a place and time that's so difficult to get to, almost forgotten, in a period of America that will never exist again. Thanks for posting this treasure and I'm glad so many of these guys survived and are doing well.
R&B these days is awful, with just a few exceptions like Bruno Mars and Alicia Keyes.
Jersey Soul, these guys had a hit written by Gamble and/or Huff of Philly soul fame with this in 1967, and they look like they've hardly aged! Thank you for this.
This song is the bomb! I remember this playing around my house! These guys were so soulful!
As a Native New Yorker, this song always remined me of the FDR and West side highway!
I was there in wildwood NJ every night watching these guys and crushing on them.
When they told us they were making a record
Of this song and I was first to hear it.
How do you like that!!
I love you guys still after all these years.
You're great!!!
1967 to 2020 STILL a Classic
Never saw this before...one of my favorite songs ever...beautiful.
THIS IS ITALIAN SOUL RIGHT HERE. BACK IN THE DAY,ALL THE BROTHERS THOUGHT THESE GUYS WERE BLACK. THIS JAM GOT MAD AIRPLAY ON SOUL RADIO STATIONS.
I thought they were too the first time I heard the song on the oldies station. I still listen to it today it's one of my favorites ❤
Never thought they were black... always thought it was the Young Rascals... and now I hear that actually worked with the Rascals before this tune
I love this song! They still sound amazing!

For years I've wanted to see a video version of this song. I'm glad I decided to look again today. I'm so glad that I did, and I was not disappointed.
These guys looked like they were having such a great time. I would have loved to have been there !
R.I.P. Richie Ingui. God Continue to Bless Charlie!!
