  • RUclipsr/guitarist Nik Nocturnal has released a signature virtual/midi bass instrument in collaboration with Submission Audio called NocturnalBass. The bass sound is as sick as all other Submission Audio products, and I thought it would be cool to compare it to my other goto-bass instruments, Djinnbass 2 and Eurobass 3.
    Hope you like the demo, if you have any further questions, please feel free to ask away in the comments down below, and I'll do my best to answer.
    For mixing/mastering quotes, don't hesitate to reach out - let's make some sick music!
    Please like, subscribe and share it with your friends as well! Cheers!

    So I’m a sucker for the Dingwall sound, so Djinn2 and Umansky are my favorite. I also have Euro2 in case I don’t want the DW sound for anything else basically.
    This had me worried that Nocturnal was the new king of the “everything else” category for me. But tbh, once you applied the processing, I’m convinced I can get a similar sound from Euro2.
    I LOVE that you gave a comparison with the built in processing too. I wish more people did that. Thanks for the video!

      Stoked that you liked the video man, thanks! 😃
      And yeah, Eurobass 2 is awesome, was my goto before 3 came out. a bit fuller throughout the whole low spectrum imo in default, but you can definitely sculpt the sound to make it similar to the characteristics of the NocturnalBass. :)

    Great video man, really informative and perfectly showed each basses sound and timbre. I currently have the nocturnal bass, but now I'm considering acquiring the Eurobass 3 seeing that its on sale til July.

    Thanks for the comparison! I upgraded to the Djinnbass 2 which is great, but I'm pleasantly surprised how well the Nocturnal bass sounded and sat in the mix! It punched through with a great tone. Awesome demo as always good sir.

      Glad you liked it! Yeah man it's so good! So awesome to have so many different tonal options when it comes to bass. Not all basses fits as well in all productions, so it's nice to be able to choose! 🤘🏻

      That's awesome to hear man! 😃 Yeah, they all have their each pallet of tone that's suitable for different genres. imagine having all 3 basses in real life, broke! Haha. But now we can for a fraction of the price. Amazing times! 😃

    my favorite still has to the djinnbass 2 because it just has that Dingwall sound though admittedly i think it has the worse onboard processing compared to the nocturnal bass for my application since im a progcore musician the djinbass is probably my best bet with parallax but honestly if i did more standard metal/modern metal stuff i think the nocturnal bass is the way to go

    Great demo but you really need to push the tone a lot harder on the djinnbass. Can hardly hear the tangy upper range at all

    Which would be your go to for something thats a more all rounder? I'm looking forsomething that can handle heavier tracks but to also throw down some fusion esque proggy stuff aswell as being able to cover any other genre i might want to delve into in the future!

    • @johanlund
      @johanlund  4 месяца назад +1

      My pick in that case would be UmanskyBass. I don't own that my self, but I've seen it handle quite a few different genres with ease.

      @@johanlund Thank you! 🙏🏻 they would really benefit from allowing us like a 7 day trial or so before commuting to buying something that isn’t refundable if we choose the wrong one!

    Curious to see what direction Submission decides to go in from here cuz they've definitely hit that tipping point where they're about to be the NeuralDSP of the bass sims (if they aren't already), and i don't necessarily mean that in a good way..
    I mean, they release Umansky and Omni so fast that it pretty much rendered Grove obsolete, and they just did the same thing w/ Euro 3, Djinn 2, and Nocturnal back-to-back-to-back. Talk about buyer's paralysis.

    • @johanlund
      @johanlund  6 месяцев назад

      I definitely think there's a purpose to each instrument, just as different basses in real life suites different genres, as does these, imo. I agree that I'm also curious to see what they will do next. My guess is either an amp sim, or a master grade EQ or something similar. Excited to see. 😃

    • @soysauce9296
      @soysauce9296 6 месяцев назад +1

      @johanlund I think that there are clear distinctions between Euro and Djinn as where Nocturnal seems to have a lot of overlap w/ Euro. Similarly, I think if you already have Umansky or Omni, then there isn't really any need for Grove unless you just love options/have disposable income.
      It's just frustrating as a consumer cuz all these releases have occurred so closely together that I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't have pulled the trigger on Grove or even Umansky had they known that Omni would be right around the corner. Same goes for people that splurged on Euro 3 without knowing that Djinn 2 and Nocturnal would be coming out right after.
      I don't think they're near the saturation of NDSP cuz like you said, each bass can still fill a specific niche, but at this point.. unless the next release is Punk 2 or a bass that caters towards more of a "Rock" sound, then I'd like to see either a new production plugin like DoubleTap 2 or a bass suite like a "Metal Basd Suite" where you can just seamlessly toggle between basses.
      What they should really do is release a plugin that can rival Parallax.

      Haha, still a great tool for generating bass parts from a guitar DI, use it a lot. But then I transpose the midi to match either one of the Submission packs 🤫🤫😎

    • @stagesnake4146
      @stagesnake4146 Месяц назад

      Sound wise yes, but as a writing tool ez bass is still king. It’s much easier to use the midi generated from ezbass and then use the submission audio samples.
