Another nice point about the lily pads is tadpoles are one of the most plentiful food sources. Water fleas can also be eaten raw and they give both hunger and thirst replenishment.

I've been building on the oak tree itself. There's a spot by the Beacon that's great to start your stairs at and you can build actually really high and around the entire tree to reach all sides with ziplines to and from. Only issue you may have is raids by flying creatures, but they tend to not do much when you get higher tier building materials

    • @rumissile
      @rumissile Год назад +6

Agree with this, the wolf spiders can't get to you and the only real issue is the random bees getting stuck in your base sometimes, they don't aggro when you get close to them either, so it's great. Plus the light nearby is great ambience at night

    • @samuraijokester9907
      @samuraijokester9907 Год назад +5

Thanks for the idea! I managed to make it better (what I think is better anyways.) if you put down a scaffold with a grass floor on it down near the oak lab entrance, you can then climb pretty high (already high enough to be safe,) but if you put more scaffold and floors down then you can get high enough up to make a zipline to the upper yard area. I saw this comment and decided to go into creative mode and try it out, and putting the starting scaffold at the oak lab entrance alone gives several good items.
      1. Easy access to burgle, the resource scanner, the computer and analyzer
      2. Easy food at the pond
      3. Easy building resources
And then if you build high enough then that base can be your main base ALL game. The pros about it are:
      1. Very safe, too high for most creatures
      2. Zip lines to a lot of the yard, including the upper yard
      3. Easy bee fuzz if you need it since they fly to the tree pretty commonly
      4. Very nice view
      5. Allows for night time building
      6. You can make several floors (so far I’ve only made 2)
      Cons:
      1. it can be hard to build because of structural integrity
      2. Resources are a pain to drag up the tree to the base
      3. Zip lines are very expensive
      4. It’s extremely difficult to wrap the base around the whole tree, but if you do so then you gain access to pretty much the whole yard
So honestly, for building on the oak tree, it’s good and bad

The lily pad site has been my favorite main base pretty much all along, start on the near pads then expand into a floating palace. Baseball and hedge ascent end up being farming bases, the ball for haze fungus and red ant eggs, and the hedge for berries and spider silk. The hose coil used to be a good site, but it got patch-nerfed, I'm still trying to figure out a good spot in that area, especially if 1.0 makes under the porch accesible. I don't usually use the big rock on the retaining wall, there's a better if smaller spot on the stones further north, where there's that one with the hollow under and the twig ascent to the one next to it, best upper yard site I've found. The best of the bad lot in the sandbox I reckon is actually behind the oasis, where the sand climbs the side, you can get a decent setup under the overhang and nothing seems to go back there. I usually don't build on or under the table, rarely more than a small camp & cache in the pagoda despite the tempation of that large safe space, don't usually build closer to the Space-R than the ball, never tried the Battletoad island, might make a good hunting lodge. I though of a few you overlooked: I usually build at least a cache on the mushroom shelf at the exit from the hedge lab. In the exposed pipe where the maze key is, it's a Pain getting the foundation just so, but you can get an untouchable if cramped hideout in there once you do, and it's the closest good spot to the shovel. The log with the hatchet and field station on top is a good base camp for raiding the wood pile. That mesa with the rock and big leaf north of the Space-R loses it's value as a camp site beyond the early game, but is a great spot for a wafter deathtrap later on. Gonna have to spend much time next week finding new good spots in the final release.

Be careful about building on the lillypads. It can completely brick faction raids. If you're into farming bug parts with the waft emitter, it can spawn bugs on the other side of pond which you may not even of built over there.

I’m just starting out in the game after watching Mark, Bob and Wade play through some of it in some old videos. The best location I’ve discovered so far is the baseball for housing. Very few spider attacks and many weevils and mushrooms. Plus I’ve been building with stalks, weed stems, clovers, dry grass, crude fibers, etc and it’s all situated near me. Plus a field station isn’t far and the haze has good resources as well. It is a bit far from other things though and occasionally a wolf spider patrols and a small group of orb weaver jrs come over for revenge for something I didn’t do😂 You can build outward and upward off of the ball for more space too and just install staircases to get up with surrounding walls and fences with gates for added layers or defense and protection since the building materials do offer less strength and defense than others.

The juice box near the oak lab only sucks at night but otherwise the only thing that is a little walk away is weeds.
Besides that, aphids and tadpoles are a hop away and the juice box gives you plenty of water.
And if you hate enemy raids, just build a bridge to your base so you can pick em off.

There's a root directly behind the oaktree on the pond that I love to build on. It's a bit resource intensive to make scaffold to expand it, but it overlooks the pond, tons of sap catcher spots, and you can expand out onto the water after you get buoyant foundations. I'm also a big fan of the raised landing in the Mysterious Machine area - it has footprints in it, and you can just clear out some of the grass and have a nice chunk of land to build on. When Wolf spiders DO patrol the area, they tend to avoid that chunk of the Mysterious Machine.

The location on top of the flat rock is perfect, the bombardier beetles and stinkbugs hardly ever agro you unless you walk through their tunnel, and the Orb Weaver doesn't come close often (you can take a lot of their hp with a bow before fighting them if needed) and you would see it coming round the rocks anyway. Plus if you've got ladybug armour, you shouldn't have a problem taking these bugs out. You're pretty much bang in between the starting field station and upper yard, pond is right near you aswell but not close enough to agro any flying bugs. Literally perfect location the only bug that can glitch it's way up there in my experience is red worker ants.

My intention was to build a enormously tall base in the oak tree with the intention of utilizing zipline to get to the various location around the yard. However the buildable area (directly) around the oak tree is limited and the Corrupted Wolf Spider has made a habit of visiting my camp. Which is why this video interested me.

I actually built a base on the porch..not the one near the shed but rather the house, found out you can place stuff all along there, there are mushrooms dry grass, grass sap and branches to put sap catchers on, a research station 2 big food pois and most of all it is immune to all bug raids (of ground types)
Only issue I’ve found is it’s near the paint bucket/larva rotten blade which makes it a pain from going to the base all the way to upper yard, and the red mites.
Essentially there is a giant branch sticking up near the larva blade/hotdog casing that you can build on, i built a base on the highest tip and used a zip line to connect that base to the porch/step (first you have to build a bridge from the branch base to the porch and then add the zip line to transfer resources)
It was a pain to build a transfer, took several days, but it’s near a bunch of mushrooms, the haze, grass of both type, orb weavers and wolf spiders (of which can’t reach you near your base) plus the porch gives drop down access to the hedge, haze, and near sandbox, with base protection against raids.
Overall not too bad, just a pain to get to higher stages of the game because the base is cross map from upper yard, but it’s super protective

Video idea.. advanced building locations and farming locations (weed stem farm, mushroom farm, etc) I feel like this video targets newer inexperienced players, which is great. However, most grounded videos do. Players that have been roaming around the yard since release probably don’t care about safety or proximity to recourses when choosing a base location. For example, no matter where I choose to build, my weed stems are collected and transported from the sandbox/picnic table area. My mushrooms are farmed from my 200 slot garden, crude rope grinded out from weed stems, etc. It can feel like a lot of work, but when you maximize the output it feels a little less grindy. And I’ve looked man.. I can’t find an advanced farm location video anywhere.. maybe I’m blind. But these are things I’ve learned for myself over the past 2 years playing grounded. A video showcasing the best locations to maximize farming would be well received I’d say.

The first lily pad that you jumped onto from the shore, a wolf spider can jump on it... IF you agro it to do so. So don't build on the lily pads that are closer to shore. But, that twig that is on the shore and the bottom dips into the water, you can stand on the very edge of the twig and wolf spider cannot hit you. So shoot it with arrows until dead. They stay agroed and don't leave til dead. Easy way to get wolf spider parts.

If you build under the oak lab all raids including flying ones can't get to you at all. Only thing to do is wall out the orb weaver at the bottom. This is easily done by building a wall just after the fallen segment towards the ramp down. It also let's you run right up into the branches for ziplines around the yard.

A good spot to build an outpost when you're in the area is inbetween the right pincer and eye of the sand box.
It's 100% safe, no enemy patrols in that area.
There's a huge abundance of weed stems and mushrooms in the area. Aphids and weevils often travel through the area as well.
The only downsides i find is the lack of water (mostly relying on dew drops from grass) and the lack of resources like sap and the distances from other parts of the yard.
I personally build a stem stairway up to the sandbox for easy access and have a little outpost there when i'm farming antlions.
It's also a good spot for farming bees, black ants, gum and it's close to the entrance to the haze and black ant lab which is nice. It would make for a great spot to set up ziplines as well but you can't build on the sand box itself :(

Fairly safe right there, but bombadier, ladybugs, stinkbugs, and larvae are close by as well as two people food spawns right outside our base. Lots of building resources and the log provides additional protection against attacks. Main downside are the mites everywhere are annoying.

This is where my main base is as well, built under the overturned hotdog tray that serves as the roof and back wall. It was extremely easy to reinforce with traps, and serves as the perfect spot to ambush the 3 patrolling wolf spiders nearby. It wasn't an easy place to start off - had to really hit the bed early and often to avoid the spiders, but at this point it's the perfect hunting lodge.

The place I liked before some major releases of the game was the flat rocks up by the Frankenstein looking thing by the upper east yard. That was all unfinished but accessible, there was clay, sap, plenty of weeds, it was right next to the hedge but far enough away to not deal with any of the spiders. No aggressive creatures, TONS of aphids ladybugs and weevils. It was my safest/most favorite place before release. Safe, huge, and resourceful. The only downside was getting there 😂 tons of larva, mosquitoes, spiders. Then you have to avoid them while trying to build up to those rocks! But once you were up there and had a safe way up, it was perfect!
Love the videos as always Milton! Thanks! 🙏🏻

honestly my preferred base location is the clearing between Old Anthill and the blue Juice Box (can't remember the marker name) just at the edge of the Oak Tree's roots, it's not too far from the SPAC.R, access to a source that gives at least a little more food and water when waking up, safe passage to the Koi Pond and Oak Lap via walking on the roots and using the leaves and twigs as bridges, fast access to Acorns, only major threat is the spiders under the tree and, from the last time I played, only one of them patrols where that is, given I also like actually feeling like I'm lost in the blades of grass so I actually rarely build on top of something, the other location I found was right after the BBQ grill section was added, there is an alcove by the sand box that is big enough to fit a full team of 4 with storage, resource gathering and farms and to build vertically into it just gotta be sure to roof it off and it makes for a decent forward operating base as I also prefer to have one base that I pour a lot of time into and making perfect with a bunch of little other bases around the map for when I'm gonna be in those areas for a while

  • @subj3kt172

I prefer to build on the oak tree root right behind the yard light. Before Home Stretch, it was fantastic for grub and sap farming, but even though you don't need as much of those anymore, you have access to acorns, grass, stems, shrooms, gnats around the light at night, dew drops here and there, and the central location makes it ideal. You can build a zip line hub on top of the light or up the side of the tree, and the oak lab is close so you don't have to make special trips. The only downside is the wolf spiders under the tree, but if I block off the exits closest to my base, they don't come by very often and usually only at night.

@Logan Alan I use either lady bug armor or koi fish armor. Koi is better for perfect blocking. Also, I use the mithriditism and parry master perks. When they pull back to attack, it's easier than most bugs to time the block. I also keep plenty of beefy green machines for hyper stamina. Wolf spiders seem to die easy with the termite axe but a regular insect axe will do. I hope this helps you.

High up oak tree base is best base now. Ziplines will go both ways with an upgrade. That means a central high up base will be best. Use it as a hub to get to anywhere you want and just find your zipline to get back once you're done exploring. The trek out will be the hardest part of the set up if you have enough web.

1 year late, but I managed to exploit my way onto the mushrooms of the oak tree. There is a leaf laying beside the tree under the mushrooms that you can climb. Behind it, there should be some ledges and from there you can build ladders. I built 2 ladders up and made my way right under the mushrooms. I relocated the top ladder and placed under the mushrooms and jumped onto one. The great thing is you can build support pillars on top of the mushrooms!!!
I recommend building stairs once you're right under the mushrooms, so that you can bring materials to the top.
