Just ordered the new one. Also ordered three of the other flavors previously. I’m an IT professional and find it so much easier to support someone like you who creates the drives rather than taking the time to do it myself.

Been doing this for years with Ventoy and Samsung combo drives, which is what you're doing here. However, if you want to be able to install windows from a USB drive, the IODD enclosures and an SSD are FAR superior, as they can present as a optical drive, meaning when windows reboots to finish installing, it actually works. Not to mention using an actual SSD rather than flash storage on a USB drive is always going to be more performant.

I can install from USBs without issue. The performance is comparable to an SSD in a USB enclosure, I’ve done a lot of testing. Portability is also a factor.

not to mention i had to look up what an IODD enclosure is and besides having to learn how to use that tool it also seems to be far more pricey considering all the technology inside. I'd dare say it might be superior if the issues you stated are in fact an issue, however i cant say for myself i have had an issue installing windows from a usb although it was not through ventoy but just the standard media creation toolkit/rufus workflow

If you by chance do get NVME's and enclosure's - make sure you get mid tier enclosures at LEAST. The cheaper ones usually either break, melt themselves or have malfunctions with the ports. But excited they are getting an update ;)

hopefully you can keep growing and move to 1tb flash but think about doing nvme based also - probably even faster than most usb flash and prices for nvme are very reasonable - comparable or even less than usb flash - just add a ext case and it is basically the same thing just much faster

Do you mean an NVME m.2 drive in a USB enclosure? That usually limits the speed to the interface of the USB enclosure. I did try that out though, it's pretty cool, I got about the same exact performance as the 3.2 gen 2 drives. If I grow to 1TB, I think you are correct there, the price would make sense to migrate to the M.2 in an enclosure. The other factor there is the size, would want it to be as compact as a typical flash drive. Thanks!

@@theit-unicorn1873 you have to be forward thinking here - nvme in an enclosure is way to go and as standards keep getting faster will be the only way to go - also you need to use encryption with persistence - it really isn't optional or just a good idea. if you get usb4 and boot from that you could have 3x-4x speeds with nvme in an enclosure plus a partition for fast storage plus parts for enc persistent storage and since prices are almost cheaper for nvme 1tb it is a no brainer - the hitch is usb4 is not ubitquitous/common yet but it will be quite soon

The new drives are made by Transcend ESD310C. The old one, which is no longer available is made by Thkailar.

Do tell us how that goes in the next 6 months when you have to deal with warranties…
