    Great comparison review Steven! Appreciate your insight! BTW, what is your favorite trail shoe to-date?

      Thank you, Chad. hmmm that is a good question. Probably the model I have put the most miles on would be the Hoka Torrent line, both the original and the 2. Its always been a shoe that I can put on brand new and go run 20 miles in with no issues.

    The hoka torrent has been an extremely versatile and reliable go to shoe for me the past few years. From short runs to up to 50 miles. Mountains to buffed trails. I’ve always retired them around 400 miles but only because I had a fresh pair waiting. Tried peregrines went back to torrents, to me they were better all around

    Fantastic honest comparison Steven. Can't argue with the Vibram outsoles. I'm trying to hold out for the Torrent 3s, but you are making a convincing argument for the Peregrine.

      Thank you, Sage. I think you would really like the Peregrine 12’s! The Torrent and Torrent 2 are actually not Vibram outsoles. It is Hokas own compound.

    I have the original Torrent and the Peregrine 10s and 12s. The Peregrine 10 is a great daily trainer for any distance but a bit too heavy and not snappy enough for any fast training days or for racing. The Peregrine 12 and the Torrent are close to a tie for me - I like the 12 better overall BUT it is digging into my heel in the same way it did with you - only Saucony shoe I've ever had that does this and I go fairly broad across their trail and road lines. Up to 10k, it's all right but anything over that and it will peel my ankle. If it weren't for that, I'd give it the nod over the Torrent. Torrent is isn't quite as snappy (close though), not quite as connected on ground feel (close though), no rock plate . . . but no heel issues. I'll still use the Peregrine 12s for short trail race efforts and training runs up to 10k but nothing longer. I'll rotate between the Xodus and the Torrent for any training runs or races longer than that.

      Totally agree! I just ran in the Torrent 2 again yesterday and was reminded why I like it so much!

    I've had both. The upper of the Torrent is better than the Peregrine. The midsole and outsole of the Peregrine is better than the Hoka. The Hoka soles fell apart in less than 100 miles for me. A mix of both shoes would be great.

    Dude, I can't even tell you how crazy it was to see this review pop up! I've been agonizing ever since I bought my Peregrine 12s two weeks ago, they seem great BUT should I try and get my hands on some Torrent 2s? They seem so similar in many ways and very different in others, maybe I bought the wrong shoe? So frustrating that many retail outlets aren't restocking the Torrents for some reason. ANYWAY this is exactly what I needed! While it's close, I think I'd really only prefer the Torrent in cooler, wetter, less rocky types of terrain. Since I live in Arizona I'll probably stick with the Peregrine haha. It's very interesting you say the Torrent is less stable... since it has a wider base I wanted to assume it would be more stable, but maybe because it's more flexible underfoot that's where you feel the "instability"? The fit difference was really helpful too... in terms of a direct comparison BTW. Always grateful for your thoughtful and thorough reviews!

      Wow awesome, Michael! Glad this helped ease your mind! Both are great shoes, but for Arizona, the Peregrine is probably the better choice. Thanks for watching!

    Thinking about the Peregrine 12s. I have 4 pairs of the Peregrine 10s and I obviously love them if I have 4 pairs. One pair is worn out so I’m down to 3 pairs. The 12 seems a little more narrow than the 10 and less durable. I’ll probably pick up the 12s later this year or early next year when the 13s come out.

      Yeah pick up a pair of the 12's when they go on sale before the 13 launch

    Yeah I am I have the torrent version one I love you. I thought it was great. I’m more of a minimal runner soda lower stack height kind of Drew me in I used to run in another Hokka. I forgot what it was called but I thought that was all I’m Hoge awesome Msakni I love sucking for roads was I don’t know if there’s something wrong with the soul or whatever and I never trip hardly and it seems like I was always catching that foot and something I brought it back to Todd Sacony about it they told me to take some pictures of it, and I said to shoot back and they refunded my money and with a note that There was something wrong with the soul like it was separating so that’s pretty good. I’ve always said I think Saucony is the best feeling shoe when you put it on your foot. Every time a new runner comes to me and says hey what should I go with? You know where everybody pushes them to the Nikes I always send them to Saucony I said yeah get a second there comfortable conference I learn to run it so I so if there was something wrong with it or if it was just me I don’t know but that was an older model and it just felt really heavy to me. I don’t know it might’ve been and it felt heavy and bulky but that was an older model. I think it was the peregrine maybe six

  • @justinphillips6490

    Not by personal comparison but with runners I saw at yamacraw wearing I think speedgoats were having trouble with grip. I had the peregrines and it made me check up a little bit when I would see it but didn’t suffer the same issues with grip. Peregrines could use a little more cushion at times but not exactly a deal breaker.

    • @UltraTrailSteven
      @UltraTrailSteven  2 года назад +1

      Yeah the Peregrines aren’t meant for long stuff in my opinion. I wore the 11’s for a 70 mile race and my feet were tired after from lack of cushion. But for a 50k they are great!
