Just picked up one of these second hand. I generally play ukulele and wanted this for the bigger sound so have tuned to DGBE. I love the sound and the steel strings but the narrow neck is a big problem coming from baritone ukulele.
cgda is my favourite tuning, really zingy. Also, the same fingerings as gdae can be used and the only difference is it sounds slightly lower. It's great for picking. Thanks very much from a new subscriber in England.
Thanks David. "Zingy" is a good description of CGDA. Thanks for subscribing! Even though I have mostly GDAE lessons, as you know you can certainly still use them for CGDA-same fingerings
Nicely played. I have one. After a while i put it in DGBE for the chord options. I prefer the shorter scale of a mandolin for a 5ths tuning. However you work those chords very well.
I like these little guitars, nice body and scale length. Personally I think the head stock is a little bulky looking and as with virtually all mass produced lower end guitars, they are over-braced but … they were great value for the money.
Very cool tuning . . .

I hear ya! I think nut width may be the most important and individualistic preference that will determine if one likes their instrument or not.
I have that Kala, love it, thanks for demo!
I have the similar one, and love it!
I'll use it on the music festival in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka this October.
Cool! What tuning will you play in?

Thanks Stephen. Yes. I agree that the long scale can make it hard to reach some chord shapes.

I agree. It's not perfect, but super handy for traveling
The shorter scale allows you to use heavier gauge strings-especially the A @ 0.013?-without breaking?
The .013 on the A string hasn't broken, but it is too tight. I will definitely change it out for a .011 or .012
@@tenorguitartime Thanks for that information
