He talked about a renunciate for 20 years, and Iskcon not taking care of him. Do not be a renunciate its not for 99.99% people. back in old times society in general took care of renunciates and provided for them. not anymore, at least not in western settings. Karma yogi is recommended way for most people. Iskon teaches to not engage in extra marital sex. however, there are no teaching against Queer person in any Hindu sect or tradition, show me if you find anything, however, its not like it will be promoted either. Orthodox does not really have same meaning as in any Christian tradition. Queer person existed during Krishna times as mentioned in Mahabharata and actually one fought by the side of Arjuna.
not easy in the path of Bhakti (HK movement), Krsna Bhagavan always test individual person to step further, be patient and always develop in the mood of companions , tolerance and honesty
I am Chinese American new to Hare Krishna...watched Your Video ...i would like to stick to Prabhupada teachings and my personal EXPERIENCE about CHANTING has made me to continue in this practice...i believe there is Truth in this Spiritual Tradition yes there are some Bad Apples who cannot be avoided...
There are quite some things to be improved in the Hare Krishna movement, sure. I am also trying to do something. But let us not throw out the baby along with the dirty water... like he seems to having tried to do. Hope he'll things in clearer perspective in future. Hare Krishna! 🙏
I am not a member, but I know the movement as I sometimes stayed at some of their ashrams,. I practiced Hinduism in general for many years, my wife is Indian, Hindu, and we live in India, so I am pretty well aware of Hindu traditions. Gaudiya Vaishnavas do not lie about their tradition. They trace their lineage back to a 15th century Saint, Sri Chaitanya, who is recognized, also by the other Hindu traditions, as a great Hindu Vedanta philosopher and yogi. Sri Chaitanya based his philosophy on a close reading of the Hindu scriptures. They are conservative, and quite fundamentalist, but they are not a sect. You can walk in and out and they do not try to keep you in against your own will or anything. If Iskcon is a sect than the Catholic Church is certainly a sect. The Catholic Church is way more fanatic and sectarian than Iskcon, in my experience (my mother is a staunch Catholic). This person has had a bad experience, and I feel sorry for him, but this can happen when you meet the wrong people in the movement or enter with mistaken expectations / motivations.
Very matured understanding. Actually, Srila Prabhupada has presented the most sublime science of Self Realization and people within the Hare Krishna movement are at different levels. But, eventually, the message of Bhagavad Gita is to help one transcend beyond the bodily misconceptions of life and to be more responsible human being with actual deep purpose within rather than without. Any one who has problems with sense control can be viewed as struggling patient in the ICU afflicted badly with the virus of material energy. Practice of Bhakti is to give a boost to the spiritual energy to fight the viruses which are actually accumulated over a very long period of time sometimes many lifetimes. All spiritual practices do definitely some good.
I myself being indian worship lord shiva. I attended two classes of iskcon but i came to know about their toxicity. they keep on pushing me to only pray lord krishna saying other gods are less or false. I left it. The real and traditional gaudiya vaishnav never insult other gods. Indeed for them lord vishnu is supreme but they never say that other gods are less. Iskcon is just worshiping like a missionary slowly brainwashing us. They have their own books and they doct encourage us to real the actual sanskrit vedas, puranas and upanishads and gita but only their translated version.
Yeah as much as ISKCON and GBC is problematic, calling it a cult is very misleading i would say. Eastern religions already get a bad rep as they are not very mainstream and misunderstood. I'm not sure how to feel about this because some of his points are valid but still misleading to mainstream society as cult has a very negative connotation.
@@fogpumas Tbh some of his points are valid so I cannot say he is misinformed. If anything, his experienced is marred by his trauma and he sees ISKCON through that lens now. It is not an easy thing to break out of trauma especially when you've been so conditioned in a certain environment for so long and especially if that environment was going against your real beliefs. If anything I am glad that he is able to freely express and choose what he wants to do. But at the same time, i do agree with you, lots of those blanket statements that comes from the emotions he is feeling right now. I have experienced things similar to his and it took me some time to realise that it is not Bhakti yoga/Gaudiya Vaishnavism itself that is problematic. I just have to understand that lots of narcissists are disproportionately attracted towards religious movements to exploit others and perhaps practising Bhakti on your own would be a less disappointing reality. Hopping from one religion to another is not really going to do it. There are a**holes EVERYWHERE
@Maadesh Kumar Some iskcon areas are cults yes, Mayapur being one. I can agree that it may not be a cult, but the fact ISKCON is pushing away the LGBTQ community and others, is very troubling
@@ConnorMillerStephen Hi Connor, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think it is true to some extent that it has pushed away any connotations supporting the LGBTQ++ community. Like Jonathan mentioned in the video, they accept that trtiya-prakrti(the 3rd gender/queer community which is mentioned in our scriptures) exist. Jonathan did say that they accepted him being a gay person but like he said, the problem stemmed from their stance that queer people should not marry as they cannot procreate. This is unfortunate as it is not a full acceptance. This thought is held by many traditionalists I have met in the movement. However, I would say this is WAY better than the abrahamic religions' stance on the LGBTQ that considers the existence of the queer community itself as an abomination and unnatural. So, are Christianity and Islam cults then? Also, there are those like myself and other vaishnavas who do not hold the traditionalist view and are involved in empowering the LGBTQ community. Places like Mayapur,Kashi, Rishikesh, Haridwar,Vrndavan, Sri Rangam etc have always existed as pilgrimage sites for Vaishnavas and other sects of Hindus. As an Indian myself, i can confirm that these places have always had significance even before the western world got to know of them. So it's inaccurate and not nice to call such places a cult. I am not sure where you got that idea but it is okay, we learn.
Hare Krishna is a bonafide Process It is a Parmpara started with Lord Krsna itself ---- No one can damage it the person w ho wants to damage this process and movement will damage himself his own interest. He enemy of his own soul
I don't consider myself Hare Krishna devotee, but I am their friend. I mingled with many other spiritual groups, and I can tell you for certain that Hare Krishna community and their spirituality is the most advanced. They definitely have the deepest philosophy, and they walk the walk before talking the talk. Their kirtan meditation is most healing i have experienced. Their women are of the most quality ethically. I can go on, but believe me Hare Krishna is legit very deep spirituality.
"Their women"?? Do they own women? The philosophy isn't deep, it's as fake as any religion. And singing and dancing is blissful, true. But you don't have to believe in a magician in the sky in order to experience bliss. Being part of that cult was one of the worst things that happened in my life.
@@HerrGaurangayou dont understand the context he meant women devotees some centers are not good but i would reccomend you only go to a actual good hare krishna centre. Like new vrindaban etc. Everyone has their own experience
Look at the audacity of this person, being a drug addict he got accepted by a nice community and now he is spreading hate about them.. at least be respectful and thankful for what they have given you.. you might have bad experiences that doesnt mean entire Hare Krishna community is like that .. I'm now feeling that may be some other religious organizations has paid him well to spread such vibes about ISKCON. But truth will always prevail ..
No one has paid him. He's just self absorbed and deeply disturbed and not taken ANY responsibility for his karmic situation so is blaming EVERYONE and EVERYTHING around him (the racists, the school system, the society, the Hare Krishna's, his trauma etc etc etc) And now he's talking about gender studies and veganism lol. Just a lost soul unfortunately
Every individual's experience is worth hearing.... but big picture I found the video lacking in meaningful insight. God knows ISKCON has had its problems, but the interviewee seems to lack understanding of the movement or even the philosophy. To make a valuable critique you must at least understand an organization thoroughly... its strengths and its weaknesses.
That's so wrong. An evil act is an evil act, it doesn't matter if you "understand the organization". Molesting children is one of the lowest things anyone can do, and it happens in all religions... I don't need to dive into each of them to see that it's all the same evil.
@@HerrGauranga It is written in canto 3 in Bhagavatam,Brahma had dirty thoughts toward his daughter while his daughter didn't have sexual thoughts towards him.His sons were very angry towards him, he was in big shame. He left his body and became another body. So what's the use of it being "a sin" if "god" doesn't seem to care?
I agree I genuinely don't like modern ISKCON. But I have unflinching faith towards Srila Prabhupada and this ISKCON member called Amarendra Das. Hare Krishna❤

Yes, there are serious flaws with the way the organization is managed. Most leaders have deviated from Prabhupada's instructions thus causing chaos. This has caused havoc for so many aspiring devotees. I was fortunate to have the association of a wonderful devotee family that inspired me . I will always be grateful to them. However I got married to a long time devotee who abandoned me and our three children after 20 years of marriage. I am still fighting this in the court with limited resources. So there are many disguised devotees who are wolves. It is imperative you protect yourself from them . Hare Krishna

Hi sophia. It's disheartening to hear that a Krishna devotee left his wife and children. We are taught that family is one of the gifts that Krishna has given us. May Lord Krishna take care of you and bring your husband back to you. Hare Krishna 🚩🙏

I avoid the western sects of Gaudiya vaishnavism, the sects in India are significant different. I’m sorry for those who were disillusioned and harmed by the cult practices of iskcon and their false gurus. Krishna, as an entity, will always bring us back. Like him, I also tossed all my books and paraphernalia and went to Goddess Kali / fast forward I got all my books and instruments back and found a new path with a sect from India that’s isn’t either of these two that he was speaking of, and I’m way happier, more accepted, not told to preach or convert or proselytize, just to do what I can and work on myself. I feel a lightness with it and have healed a lot of my traumas associated with these western movements. I won’t enter into an Iskcon’s temple but I still love Krishna and return to India regularly to deepen my own personal connection with him. Haribol!
Pretty ignorant about the Gaudiyas for a person who allegedly joined........ Sorry to say, but this guy simply didn't understand anything about what he is talking about.
How is it possible for the oldest religion known to man be a sect. Unfortunately this man didn't go deep into the practice. He definitely has a right to speak about his experiences with Krishna's but definitely doesn't have a depth of realisation to give proper evaluation of the path.
In my practical experience in this matter about ISKCON, I recommend first read ALL the books that Śrīla Prabhupāda wrote BEFORE enter the Institution or get involved with devotees. Then, if you are really sure about what you want in your life, take the step forward. Otherwise you’ll end up frustrated because the things you think, are not the things that are. If you are not prepared, a lot of “surprises” will appear in the path, many of them will not be pleasant, and they require wisdom and a very strongly developed character to overcome.
my favorite Prabhupada quote is where he says women like to be raped, Children can be beaten, blacks should be slaves and that he was 22 years old when he honeymooned his 11 year old child bride. what is yours?
Thank you for sharing so honestly and openly. So sorry you had such a terrible experience. But it is not uncommon. It is an old culture but new to the West. And has a lot of maturing to do. The time you spent was not wasted. There was benefit there. Wishing you well in your journey through life. Hare Krishna.
It's a personal choice to join or to leave. And dude, I don't think you have all facts right. I am a Hare krsna and I don't agree with what your understanding is. Krsna is incarnation of Vishnu ( wrong ) sex is punishable ( wrong) illicit sex is one of the 4 principles, orthodox ( wrong) it's again individual choice to live in the temple to become a monk or live a normal life with vegetarian diet, no gambling, sex within marriage, ( there were many gay people who joined Prabhupada) . Don't say " they play with your ego" . Many broken people look for some form of meaning in life. Out of those, many take up krsna consciousness and are happily living either householder life or monk life. Yes, when your sexual relationship becomes a validation for your existence, then of course anything that comes your way becomes a problem. I have been a Hare krsna for the past 21 years and I work as a professional in the main stream western developed country. At the end of the day, it is a personal choice. Your red flags are your thoughts and some lousy interaction. If you think that the philosophy is at fault then why still chant ? Should throw Srila Prabhupada' s recording too..Your closing statement is pathetic and opinionated.
I’ve also witnessed a Hare Krishna guru YELL at a devotee at a leadership meeting for requesting the name of the person who committed heinous sexual assaults on multiple people. The devotee requested the name be shared for the safety of everyone. This guru refused to express their name even though the wrongdoer was still involved with the temples in Canada and still working closely with people he should NOT be near. It made me feel extremely unsafe to know a guru would go to such lengths to protect a sexual predator in our community.
Eliza Ba Than I do not understand how you can be a member of a religion that has so many grave factual errors in its holy books. Do you sincerely believe that our universe is half full of water ? Here are some other errors in Srimad - Bhagavatam : Alll the stars in the entire universe circle the Pole Star. There is only one sun in the entire universe. Stars are not self illuminating, they just reflect the light that comes from the sun. The distance between the Earth and the Sun is only 1 280 000 kilometers ( the real distance is 150 000 000 kilometers ).The distance between the Earth and the Moon is 2 560 000 kilometers. The real distance is 384 400 kilomerers. The eclipses of the Sun and the Moon are caused by a demon's ( Rahu ) head. S-B does not mention the planets Uranus , Neptune and Pluto. The reason for that is of course that those planets are not visible to the naked eye. All the planets in our solar system which are visible to the naked eye are mentioned in S-B. According to S-B the diameter of our universe is 6,4 billion kilometers. That's a very small universe. Our own solar system is much bigger ! S-B also says that the temperature in the womb is unbearably high and causes horrible suffering for the unborn child. That is totally wrong. We can measure the temperature in the womb. It is about 37.5 degrees Celsius. S-B is NOT a reliable source of information ! The information in it is human speculation.
@@jonathanredmon4241 bro you right of it being a cult and completely fake but your points in the video was not really good because it's mostly what bad things people have done we don't care about that so much because people are like that in every part of life we want to know how the teachings in the books are wrong. You only gave one valid reason that the books say gay people are evil which is obviously not true gay are just people. As for your guru saying women are asking to be raped we don't care what he say we care about what the actual vedas say let's think about reality women are not asking to be raped but are asking for attention by wearing unnecessary revealing clothes which is fine because if men could get attention from the opposite sex like that then men will do the same everyone wants attention from the sex they attracted to. But it obviously increases the risk of inviting some evil person to rape them. The world is inherently by nature is evil the natural human body urge when you sexually attractived to some is to have sex now or if you want something just take it the human body is selfish we have to fight against our urges and be good and compassionate instead of selfish. I'm sure at this point that God is the one thats evil

Iskcon does have a bit of cult aspect in their preachings and is extreme form of Hinduism. Actually Hinduism is very liberal, with four (4) stages of life and encourages love and sexual relations early stages of marriage as one gets older they get naturally more closer praying to God. However, after listening to this gentleman, he seems to be very extreme terms of following Satanism to other aspects of religion. Seems like he had a difficult childhood, which has contributed to this type of instability nonetheless, wish him all the best seems like a gentleman and sincere guy.
True. George Harrison called for his long-term friend, long-term devotee Mukunda Maharaja, to be at his bedside as he died, and the former left the latter a substantial package from his will.

If you listen I state I don’t believe in God. I enjoy the images and use them as symbols within my own practice. Various forms also relate the self as Shiva essentially being one with God or being God/Guru. It’s a totally different concept than dualistic practices of ISKCON. Especially within the Tantric Shiva and Shakti traditions.
@@jonathanredmon4241 I am an indian and worship lord shiva and other gods also. Actially the impersonal Brahman is in person Krishna.Krishna is basically Vishnu. Then comes Brahma then Shiva. That's Trimurti, our 3 kind of lifeforces, everyone has it.I don't understand how comes that Shiva is worshipped why not the whole Trimurti? It's like having one lifeforce instead of three.
Thank you so much for this interview. It's refreshing to hear from someone who has so much clarity and strength. I also succumbed to the love-bombing and ended up spending the entire decade of the 80s very involved, but luckily began to see the light. before I would have had to send my son to the krishna schools, which are famously filled with child-molesters. But after some time I joined a splinter group (Tripurari) for several years until I saw him to be the con man that he is. Nitai Joseph helped me see what I hadn't been willing to see. Leaving was the most difficult and the most strengthening thing I have ever done. All told, I carried their damaging philosophy around in my head for 36 years! It's a struggle but I am so grateful to be free. Jonathan has such strength, probably from a home that provided support and self-reliance without indoctrination. It gives me courage to hear him. It's actually rare for ex-devotees to speak out because there is such a backlash from iskcon. Members become entwined and dependent on the lifestyle and beholden to the leaders, and then are ceaselessly told that there is nothing "out there" for them. I'm here to say that is not true, It takes courage and self-examination. And for me and many others, support is needed. Ex-members are out here! Once all of the founders quotes about Hitler, the moon landing, flat earth and disgusting misogyny became public, I don't know how any of the members STAY.
Normally people read a book about Krshna Consciousness before they join fulltime. Joining full time means a lot of discipline, to give the person the opportunity to taste spiritual bliss and love to God. If you water the root everything will be satisfied. This can also be done without discipline like getting up early, keeping celebacy and eat vegetarian. But following the rules is the best way, if you like to advance swiftly. The reasons why people get burned out so quickly are manyfold, mistreatment is one of them. Another is the common state of our secular society, for example the sexual liberty in advertisements, newspapers, the internet and people in general. It's not normal for a woman in India to dress so provocative as in the West. We should consider that our social rules may not be perfect.
I will be a Hare Krsna devotee for my entire life under Srila Prabhupada.. but I essentially left behind the current state of this false ISKCON 15 years ago when they started using Facebook & many became like Socialist PC Karen types.. then outcasted, excluded, betrayed, and exiled me for standing up for Prabhupada as a Kshatriya.. you can blame Frank Cohen, Dave Hill, many if those who worked with them, and many of those in the Hillsborough, Alachua, & Dallas communities for me not wanting to associate on a personal level anymore.. However I'll never leave Prabhupada's Iskcon and will still go to the temple to chant Hare Krsna.. but not deal with some of the people that seem to treat it like an excuse to play dress up and/or a social club 💯 FACTS 👁️🤙⚖️
In our world, an enduring conflict exists between good and evil. Frequently, movements initially designed to promote positivity and awareness become targets for parasites and individuals with malicious intentions. This occurs because good-natured individuals within a context of goodness attracts opulence and thus become vulnerable to exploitation. It's the responsibility of each individual to cultivate goodness, promote its expansion, and remain vigilant against the schemes of evil. By amplifying goodness, we can effectively address and counteract malevolent forces. Ultimately, there is no one to blame other than our own lack of awareness and blindness induced by illusion and a lack of sublime knowledge.
Religious organisations always seem comfortable to call homosexuality a sin and even an abomination, and yet they say nothing about child sexual abuse and when it happens they go to great lengths to cover it up. Despicable!
So many flaws in hin logic and explanation. Too many wrong facts, seems like he is just speaking out cause he is guilty for leaving but cannot make up to it. His guilt is that he could not control his wild senses and thought to simply deny everything anyway. Lack of will power. Sorry to say, but it is what it is.
People are leaving in droves due to ISKCON's criticism of the LGBTQ community, the lack of fighters against a collapse, the child abuse cases, etc. He knows exactly what he is talking about, as sad as it is
@@ConnorMillerStephen indeed the lack of criticism and the unwillingness to take action is a real issue. As the saying goes, if 9 people sit down at a table with 1 nazi without protest, there are 10 nazis. So though i support his reason for leaving, him painting gaudiya vaishnavism as a cult comes from a very flawed logic.
"Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized soul can impart knowledge unto you because he has seen the truth."
That's truth but You have to ask questions to that master spiritual because It's suposed that he has the knowledge. Remember he isn't the bhagavan he is only MASTER.

Thank you very much, dear Talk Beliefs and dear Jonathan, for sharing this video. I have also been with the hare krishnas and left officially two years ago. I love hearing about others' stories and paths of realizing that they are a cult.
Sampling all religious and non-religious faiths as he did isn’t enlightening or an example of a path for others seeking enlightenment. His “brand” here is that he’s rejected all religions and particularly mocked one particular faith. He should follow his own belief system maybe he’ll accomplish what he failed to find elsewhere. Then he can preach to others how to run their lives. Good luck to everyone here sincerely seeking contentment and enlightenment-do the exact opposite of this guy. 😂😂
Definitely, there could be organisational flaws, but the core philosophy of Shri Prabhupada is same as Sanatan Dharma. Choosing Krishna is accepting all form of Gods: Lord Shiva, Devi Durga, Lord Ganesha and so on as it is. They are each other’s form and vice-versa. It’s sad that west labels everything as cult. This guy did not get the core philosophy. You don’t have to convert or join any society in order to be a Krishna devotee, but it does help with the basics of Dharma. We never preach to hate anyone or anything, because everything is built by God. That’s why everything has its divinity! Hate is evil! It’s not same as Abrahmics. However, any holy life can lead to same divinity if they use the nature’s common sense. Hope we all find our inner peace!!
What's your point? That's fine worship do you like you have free will! You left you weren't brainwashed! Worship Shiva! Worship Jesus, Buddha, don't blame everything on a misunderstanding nobody wants to see you suffer! Everyone just wants to pile on any religious people or philosophy! Why did Einstein read Bhagavad Gita? Just because because of bad experience look at the Vatican all the molestations that have for centuries! That's the nature of the material world! Free will! Examine every religious dogma and talk about it! Peace
I read a book about how after Prabhupad's death the organisation fell into deep corruption involving a power struggle, drugs and a murder in London by a devotee. The book was titled 'Monkey on a stick' ('i cant recall the author)
All the problems started because the disciples disobeyed Srila Prabhupada's instructions after his physical disappearance. I also suggest you read the book IA77
It seems these practises that came originally from the east were fine in pure form until the west turned them into something of a business, tainting the original intent by finding a way of extracting money through it. I used to practice of Transcendental meditation back in the day., the original technique was very effective, but dear me, didnt the Maharishi and TM movement turn that into something almost laughable by the time he went to Samadhi.
He was the guru I was aspiring to before leaving. He has said such things while traveling, and gone as far to say that transgender issues are demonic, and he even has issues with some of Prabhupada's original books.
I had a victim of being raped in the Montreal temple telling me about his role in not taking action against his rapist. This person then did it again and was sent to Calgary. From their they did the same thing and instead of reporting any of this to the police. This person is now free and has a Canadian citizenship. What people say in public in much different then behind close doors. Don’t let the charm fool you it’s just illusion. I was at various leadership meetings and spent a lot of one on one with John I mean Bhaktimarga.
The problem is when you don't make questions and only accept the concept as a rule book. The same prabhupada says that people doesn't ask question. I can, with my hand on my heart, honestly say, that joining ISKCON was the best thing that ever happened to me in this life. The meditation & life-style practices that I learned in the movement helped me in all aspects of my life & continue to do so to this day, immeasurably. To quote my own dear mother, who on her deathbed, said: "I credit those (Hare Krishna) people with saving your life". I can't vouch for the experience of others, (although I know that the overwhelming majority of devotees would agree with me), but this has been my own personal experience. Thank you to the founder (acharya) teacher Srila Prabhupada, to all those who helped & continue to help me & to all the readers of this comment for reading my testimonial here. Im also part of krishna consciousness for few years but I left. If they are really worshipping the supreme real God then there should be a manifestation of Godly behaviours in their lives. Few of my friends are still there but everytime they go out from the temple, they still do bad things such as drugs and sex. I believe that if a person is sincerely submitting his whole self to the real God then God will also reach out to him and work on him immediately to help him overcome the bad habits demons are throwing because God loves human souls so much
When the founder of the Harikrishna movement, SRILA PRABHUPADA was told by one of his students what a great devotee he was, he put his head down and said “I am not a devotee. I devotee is a very exalted personality.. I am aspiring to become a VAISNAVA devotee”. So if such an impeccable and pure personality as him thinks that he is not even qualified to be a devotee, then what to speak any of the rest of us who are coming from families of eating animals, drinking alcohol, taking drugs, etc., etc. have actually become a devotee to see that we are no longer a devotee? If we tried to become a devoted of Lord Krishna in this lifetime, but choose to give up the path of Bhakti yoga or Krishna consciousness, then we can take birth again or many times and continue to practice until we develop pure love of God. Having one started, when will be given repeated opportunitie, unless we choose to reject the process and remain here in the material world until we decide that we have suffered enough.
Im an indian hindu and worship Lord Shiva. My whole family. I also joined the Hare Krishna ISKON movement for 8 years and left because they have so much hate against Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is not the supreme Shiva. The Supreme Shiva is Sada Shiva. They always talk Shiva small. Also other religions. These are fanatics.
People always make mistakes and dont conflate it with the theology of the Hare Krishnas. There are so many pseudo gurus and followers everywhere and also in this movement because the movement was hijacked by bogus gurus ( Bhakti marg swami is a bogus guru anyway ) who went against Prabhupada's final orders hence you can see the impurity creeping in and that happens when the leader leaves. So you cant take and throw the baby out with the bathwater.. there will be fakers in the movement who are on the path of progress and have certain faults in them. But that does not discount the bonafide quality of the movement.

Just see. In my veelage Sri Lanka, when monkey steal from banana farm, they impale on stick as to warn other monkey. Just so, his Grace Hamsadutta swami-dasrami say, “He who passeth stool in another man’s house shall immediately fall to his knees and thrice chant the mantra”. This has served me well as I seek return to godhead. Many stools passed, many mantra chanted. Gogda-Googah!

Not everyone can make it at university, some drop out, no shame in that. You just cannot make it at the highest level of spiritual teaching. Hinduism gave the world so much science and mathematics and knowledge of the supreme

The Hare Krishna version of Gita is skewed and subtly tries to reinforce the belief that Bhakti marg is the best alternative. But Gita offers much more than the Bhakti Marg. Try to read other Gitas as well, this might bring you closer to the truth. And Gita has so much condensed knowledge, that it requires multiple reading even for an Indian to understand it comprehensively. Moreover, I feel that Hare Krishan is a kind of cult, which is an amalgamation of Gita for lip service and has behavioral characteristics of Abrahamic religions.

I heard few philosophical error in the video yet here is not the real issue. You were associating with devotees that could not apparently adapt to your nature or somehow there were not deep communication. Spiritual path is gradual and everyone can take it, it is not that if we don't manage to jump to the perfect standard we are condemned. The core root is Bhakti or devotion and that is what is essential. Then the talk come toward hot issues that have to be address in the light of the epistemology vedic : Sadhu-Guru-Sastra the 3 need to be in line to try to understand what is said. If someone deviate from just don't associate or address the issue on an higher authority if needed. Without proper training, deep philosophical understanding and proper association we are not going to last long in such a profound process as the one ISKCON propose. With respect, all the best in your journey
Interesting journey Johnathan. Iskcon has red flags a plenty as many of us have experienced. Our world is full of hypocrisy isn't it? My take was just not to throw out the gem with the dirty water but to try to improve my ability to discern. Otherwise i would lose Krsna consciousness, undoubtedly the biggest boon of life in my humble opinion.
From my experience with vaishnav religion is it's full of zealots and highly judgmental folks. Warm on the outside, cold on the inside. As far as helping people I didn't see anything past food. Kind of the opposite really. Every person I've met in this cult has been very untrustworthy and shady. My experience with them trying to convert me was incredibly aggressive and icky. The hypocrisy was too much to handle. Not to say they are all bad but I avoid them personally. Organized religion is kind of an oxymoron in my set of beliefs. I think God is different for all of us. It's truly the unknowable so to organize a unified thought around something so advanced is foolish. I met a lot of zealots in their Temple that are literally full blown insane.
I'm sorry that Johnathan feels that way.Without getting defensive Iskcon went through bad stuff when Srila Prahupada passed . It's like a christian church not always representing Christ in proper manner. The teachings are very old ...In Bhagavad Gita hell is not a permanent place ,there is always a place to advance in spiritual life. You may say, living in material world is heaven and sometimes hell. This yoga path Johnathan took is called bhakti and there are other paths for realization like kriya and karma. To me Bhakti is a difficult path but it can be implemented just by chanting. I wish Johnathan peace.
We don't have to please anyone but the Lord known as Krsna and Rama by chanting his holy names, and the bonafide spiritual master who is representative of the Lord, by doing so we will be purified and Lord will take care of us. Whatever is favourable for such spiritual practice known as Bhakti, is to be accepted and unfavourable things should be rejected. Ultimately it's individual journey from the inside or consciousness.
I am associated as Devotee with HKM Pune. You are on right path if you followed teachings of Srila Prabhupada because the newly appointed Dasa may not be qualified as Srila Prabhupada to teach the right way! Many devottees feel that and leave in the end.. hare krishna.. ❤

I'm not going to say I am a Hare Krishna, because there is no such thing as 'a Hare Krishna'. For a start, it is spelled wrongly. In all the bona fide books of the faith, the name is spelled in its correct romanised form of Kṛṣṇa. The mis-spelling 'Krishna' is not authorised by the antiquity nor the masters of the faith, and is a false rendering of the Sanskrit कृष्ण, and which encourages mispronunciation of the word. Apart from that; neither 'Hare Krishna' nor 'Hare Kṛṣṇa' is or ever was, the name of a faith or a group of people. To refer to a faith or faith group as Hare Krisha is a misnomer. 'Hare Kṛṣṇa' is a name for the original source of creation, and it is the name of a mantra or a prayer; not a people or a faith. To refer to a people or a faith as 'Hare Krishna' is like referring to a Christian as an 'amen', or to the Christian church as 'amen people', simply because they repeat the word amen a lot. The true ancient name of the faith in question is Gauḍīya Vaiṣnavatā, or Gauḍīya for short. With all this ignorance being thrown around and spouted, what other things that are being said here are also complete fabrication and falsehood, you may wonder. I have been an adherant of the beautiful sublime Gauḍīya faith for fifty years. My children, now middle-aged, were born into and brought up in the faith, and chose to stay with it as adults, and my grandchildren are now being brought up in this wonderful journey of truth and freedom. To those wondering about becoming involved, or those already involved who are questioning, my recommendation would be to steer clear of people who think they are 'Hare Krishnas', or that THAT is the name of their faith, as their knowledge is obviously not very clear or developed; and rather, to approach a person, group or community, who know their true identity as Gauḍīya; to steer clear of people or congregations who are not emotionally mature, who harbour judgementalism or pride, who do not have genuine love, who try to interfere with and control the lives of others, and who are obviously not actually spiritually advanced. While there might be many such people and communities functioning under the name of this faith, please don't tar them all with the same brush, and please do continue to search for the real thing, because it is ancient, fulfilling, enlightening, and awesome.💖🙏

curious to get more opinions about self realization being cult vs hare Krishna. I actually was attracted first to SRF, but was harder to connect with people there and the movement was smaller
It is very strange that Krishna stood for all beings- Trans or queer or any If ISKON says it is not ok then there is something wrong with them. Hinduism never criminalise queer or trans. It is Athman- be it in human or animal or other living beings... May be the teachings are misplaced and misinterpreted....
What is their ideology? As far as I know it is simply chanting the name of Krishna.young generation must acquire education and engage in socially useful and productive work .instead you are asking them to chant. Who will run the world if everyone is chanting? So I think the chanting can be done by retired people.the funds are coming from the working people.most of the money has come from western Christians.the organisation must be self sustaining .people cannot go on simply chanting .
Good job! So proud of you for leaving behind what seems wrong. That can take a lot of strength and guts.

Chanting is really helpful. If you can focus on chanting and ignore other faith based stuff which reduces quality of your life, then it is great.

Just because your values differed from theirs doesn't mean they are a cult. Jonestown was a cult, Heavens Gate was a cult, there's a huge difference.
Yeah all of this dude’s evidence is just his opinion. And he’s really misinformed

"Their women"?? Do they own women? The philosophy isn't deep, it's as fake as any religion. And singing and dancing is blissful, true. But you don't have to believe in a magician in the sky in order to experience bliss.

Haribol!

this happened just 1 in a thousand.....why don't you interview members of other religions leaving their group and joining hare krishna?
Maybe 1 in 10. Do you molest kids like your spiritual leader?
I also read them all and left the Hare Krishna cult.
Could you elaborate on the surprises?

If the local temples won’t marry gay couples how can their be sex within marriage? It’s legal in Canada for gay marriage.

I do not understand how you can be a member of a religion that has so many grave factual errors in its holy books.
@@jonathanredmon4241 mentioning these experiences with people are not real red flags people being messed up in a temple or other places are not surprising all this will do is stop people from going to temples and still practice the same bullshit at home.
God belss you!
Despicable!

There was more than one murder in London, including my brother who was a devotee since the 70s. Died in 99.
Bhakti Marga Maharaja is my Guru too and I find it VERY hard to believe he would say something like that.
In my case, afortunately no devote was blind even they told me to not say I am hare krishna. I am still krishna's devote but I am not a "hare krishna" person.

Im also part of krishna consciousness for few years but I left. If they are really worshipping the supreme real God then there should be a manifestation of Godly behaviours in their lives. Few of my friends are still there but everytime they go out from the temple, they still do bad things such as drugs and sex. I believe that if a person is sincerely submitting his whole self to the real God then God will also reach out to him and work on him immediately to help him overcome the bad habits demons are throwing because God loves human souls so much
Iskcon after 1977 is fully not what it was pre-1977
The Hare Krishna version of Gita is skewed and subtly tries to reinforce the belief that Bhakti marg is the best alternative. But Gita offers much more than the Bhakti Marg. Try to read other Gitas as well, this might bring you closer to the truth.
It's like a christian church
not always representing Christ in proper manner. The teachings are very old ...In Bhagavad Gita hell is not a permanent place ,there is always a place to advance in spiritual life.
'Hare Kṛṣṇa' is a name for the original source of creation, and it is the name of a mantra or a prayer;
not a people or a faith.
To those wondering about becoming involved, or those already involved who are questioning, my recommendation would be to steer clear of people who think they are 'Hare Krishnas', or that THAT is the name of their faith, as their knowledge is obviously not very clear or developed;
and rather, to approach a person, group or community, who know their true identity as Gauḍīya;
to steer clear of people or congregations who are not emotionally mature, who harbour judgementalism or pride, who do not have genuine love, who try to interfere with and control the lives of others, and who are obviously not actually spiritually advanced.
While there might be many such people and communities functioning under the name of this faith, please don't tar them all with the same brush, and please do continue to search for the real thing, because it is ancient, fulfilling, enlightening, and awesome.💖🙏
Abusive society, not what it was meant to be
Chant Hare Krishna Maha mantra and be happy ❤
Just don't blame or spread bad news about Iskcon and Acharya Shrila Prabhupad for SOME OF BAD PEOPLE WHO WEARING ISKCON DRESSES AND BEHAVE BADLY WITH OTHER DEVOTEES
...THAT DOESN'T MEAN U BLAME SHRILA PRABHUPAD , HOPE U GOT IT 🖐️🖐️🖐️🖐️
Prabhupada was a narcissist who expected to be placed upon a pedestal ( literally) and worshipped.

Congratulations for not slipping into another cult (Abrahamic religions for example)
Hare Krishna 🙏
Satanic Temple looool FOH
From Krishna to Satan...
I lved in Iskcon in the 70"s , it was pure and very good .Today, criminal B/S.
I'd tell anyone that the food's damn good!Sabzi's (stews;) curd, and eggplant were/are my faves! Curd vindaloo, Gauranga potatoes, (only had that last dish at Baltimore ISCKCON temple.) Don't wanna forget yummy pacora's:( eggplant, curd, hot pepper are/ were my faves.) And samosa's !! Sweet rice, (which is a cross between rice pudding, and a shake, (oh it's good! Hot or cold.)) And all the delicious breads as well: Chapati's , poori's , and papadam, (this last bread mentioned is a declious spicy wafer like bread!) These are the wonderful foods that I remember. I ate sumptuously in both the Baltimore. MD , and Mt. Airy, PA, temples for certain.
Eat all the above foods to your heart's content!! And then!? Run , haha, run far, far , far away. (Yep, I joined Baltimore Nitai-Gaura Sundar temple ,way back in 1981. (Finally severed ties in 1986.)) Yeah, I'm gay too, but I'm not a Satanist , I believe Y'shua Jesus is the true King. (Yeah, yeah, yeah I know , The Holy Bible consider's homosexuality a sin.) Oh well.
P.s. Jonathan Redmon is nothing but DREAMY! Haha, I had to say it!
You didn't catch the Truth. Leaving isCon is not bad at all, but leaving the non sectarian way of dharma, souls path of freedom from material pushes, is suicidal per se. Your mental conditionings brought you to the point now and like waves of an ocean will but toss you furthermore without an end. You are lost.
Huh?
You shouldn’t tell people they’re lost. That’s quite rude and non dharmic
Bro even the Hare Krsnas would like you to stfu. You're the reason why.
curious to get more opinions about self realization being cult vs hare Krishna. I actually was attracted first to SRF, but was harder to connect with people there and the movement was smaller
*True is only specifically found with Prabhupāda UNEDITED/TAMPERED books (pre -1978)*
It is very strange that Krishna stood for all beings- Trans or queer or any
If ISKON says it is not ok then there is something wrong with them. Hinduism never criminalise queer or trans. It is Athman- be it in human or animal or other living beings... May be the teachings are misplaced and misinterpreted....
at least his background still Lord Shiva
What is their ideology? As far as I know it is simply chanting the name of Krishna.young generation must acquire education and engage in socially useful and productive work .instead you are asking them to chant. Who will run the world if everyone is chanting? So I think the chanting can be done by retired people.the funds are coming from the working people.most of the money has come from western Christians.the organisation must be self sustaining .people cannot go on simply chanting .
Has anyone performed an actual financial audit on ISKCON. Where does the money actually go?
Money goes into their own local temple for services and any programs cost
I’m
About too
it goes to support mission.
