I love love love how you played this piece!! I can't get over it. You got every little thing right and played it exactly how Anderson must have envisioned it. None of the piano duets sound half as merry and Christmasy as this solo performance. So good ahhh!!!! :-)
And as every year, I am here already in November to watch 14 year old video :) I still love it. Great performance! And what a great time to be alive, thanks youtube to make everything available all the time :) Ho Ho Ho Guys
Again your phrasing, dynamics, all of excellence combines in this performance. Thank you, Markus, for this crisp moment of perfect mirth! Each year it strikes joy anew. Peace be with you...Lukerdog
Erstaunlich, wie man mit einem Klavier und zwei Händen ein ganzes Orchester ersetzen kann - umblättern inklusive! Absolut perfekt! 👍🏻 Astonishing how one Piano and two hands can replace a whole Orchestra - including turning pages! Absolutely perfect! 👍🏻
Am preparing the exact piece to play at assembly. But not yet ready.Scared of the third last page-bottom.And the 2nd last page-Same tune, other bass and other RH rhythms.Always scary parts in a piece..😁
I came across a 1949 copy by Mills Music in New York that I've been learning/working from. I was following it note for note as I was listening to your performance. Mills must have been the original publisher. Nicely done, by the way...
"Sleigh Ride" is a popular light orchestral piece composed by Leroy Anderson. The composer had the original idea for the piece during a heat wave in July 1946; he finished the work in February 1948. Though it was originally an instrumental piece, lyrics, about a person who would like to ride in a sleigh on a winter's day with another person, were written by Mitchell Parish in 1950. The orchestral version was first recorded in 1949 by Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Orchestra. The song was a hit record on RCA Victor Red Seal 49-0515 (45 rpm) / 10-1484 (78 rpm), and has become the equivalent of a signature song for the orchestra. The 45 rpm version was originally issued on red vinyl. The Pops has also recorded the song with John Williams, their conductor from 1979 to 1995, and Keith Lockhart, their current conductor. Over the years, the song has become a Christmas standard.

I take a look in the book for you. Here is Anderson's own writing about this piece: "Sleigh Ride, I remember, was just an idea because it was just a pictorial thing, it wasn't necessarily Christmas Music, and it was written during the heat wave". Only a few people know this. But it is a christmas-song for everybody. For me too! All the best! Markus
great job, you give the anderson tunes a whole new life, they sound so different on the piano, but they are just as good as they were when leroy had them played by the boston pops!!keep playing. bob whitaker
Ah I love this tune, on this old Norwegian christmas CD (I am norwegian) there is a translated version of this and I never knew it was originally a Leroy Anderson tune. You play it great!
Well, sauterne2 - do you know that once (when I was younger) the page-turner was a real profession? However, today we have to do all by ourselves :) So double "Bravo" to Markus for uploading this charming piece, wonderful performance (and page-turning), as usuall!
WOW!!! I could NOT stop smiling the whole time I listened!!! Such a great job and nice change in dynamics!! Loved it!! Where can I get the sheet music for this arrangement??
Excellently played, really great. And not to detract from the excellent playing but " Allegro con Ritmo" I would have thought to have a little more bounce in the quaver runs? ...I'm just learning this version at the moment.
@swissmiss67rbd It is Anderson's Original! Anderson's complete solo Piano-Music is published by Alfred Publishing. Please take a look to my other Anderson-Pieces. :-) Thank you! Markus
Because of Your playing here I bought a rare songbook "Leroy Anderson (Almost Complete) 25 Great Melodies as originally composed for PIANO SOLO" and it´s really good. I´m trying now Your Sleigh Ride but there is still a long way until it sounds like Yours. However, on page 29 there is a famous song as well from Leroy Anderson: """Belle Of The Ball" . That is really, really good too. ... tried it ? :-)
Nice. Was organizing my music sheets today (something to do during COVID, right?) and saw that I have the sheet music for this exact 1P2H arrangement. Tried muddling through it but after I got to the end, I figured I had to hear it played well. Thanks for the video!
I finally learned this haha and I used your video as a reference so I can guarantee u that about half these views are mine :P anyway Merry Christmas and I hope you've been having a very Happy New Year!!! :D God bless
Hi Markus, our family just finished celebrating Thanksgiving and we have been listening to at least 50 of your recordings so far. We love your playing! Would you please let me know which arrangement you are using for the Sleigh Ride. I have found several on line but none look like what you're playing. My daughter is looking for a song to play this Christmas and really likes the arrangement you're playing. Thanks!
you have done a FANTASTIC job. i am making an amateur documentary about Christmas music and would like to discuss the possibility of using this song in it. How can I get in contact with you?
THIS IS FUCKING GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it.
This has been my favorite Christmas song for over 60 years, and you did it beautifully.
Thank you!!!
