yes... u can only use this order on leman russes... in the codex it says this about tank orders: This model can issue one order each turn to a friendly Leman russ in the shooting fase... bla bla bla... each leman russ can only be given a single order a turn.
Great battle report format! I like how narrative you make it, it has the real battle feel - especially how both players really make use of cover for their foot soldiers. Brutal firing going on from both sides.
Shadowsword +1 to hit "Titanic" units, it WAS 4's to hit. That would have been 2 more hits on the Wraithknight in the first turn of shooting. Also rerolls wounds vs "Titanic"
What victory points exist are based upon the scenario they played in the rulebook, if you want to blame anybody blame GW. The other things were very minor profile misreadings, which in this case didn't favor him as much as they did.
Wow Guard are really bad ass!!! Cracking looking army James. As a tactical tip could you place the big boy out of line of sight for first turn in case you dont get to go first? Not sure if that was possible on this table but as a former Armoured Commander. Always start in cover. Keep them armour boys rolling

My friend just calculated his old eldar army vs the new one. He got for 500p extra eldars... Which might had made a huge difference in this game. They should replay it.

Cannot get a Cadian Doctrine (reroll 1s) unless taken as part of Supreme Command Detachment or Superheavy Detachment (3superheavies required). See p132 'Regimental Doctrines'. 2. Cannot order the Superheavies from any source. See p89 'Tank Orders' Even Pask is limited to chatting with Leman Russes. 3. Shadowsword gets '+1 to hit TITANIC models, AND reroll wounds against TITANICs. Love your batreps, top quality out there! And obvious fun :) O7

Yeah, this rule gets ignored so much both online and in my local play. I can't believe the amount of incredulous looks I get when I tell people they can't do that, or they can't squeeze a tank through a gap that's too narrow for the vehicle, or just roll over obstacles like before. It's IN the rules. Don't give me that 'you're being TFG' look and don't get sassy just because my Dark Eldar stuff flies. Not my fault you're pleb human tanks can't do things and you deployed poorly.
Eldar pre-Codex suffered from the same thing afflicting Blood Angels this release. Pre-codex means over costed units resulting in too few models on the table unable to put down dice or absorb wounds. Post-Codex Eldar is completely different story.

Great game! Lovely terrain. Don't forget, as per the FAQ Grinding Advance doesn't require you to move in order to fire your turret twice. Although I realise this may have been filmed before the FAQ?

I've had to move 5 hours away from my Iyanden Eldar, so I've only been able to play one game of 8th but it was really fun, hopefully I'll pick up some tips watching these so I don't make any silly mistakes when I get back into it :D
Awww man I saw that coming once I saw the lists. Good win James. Luke I would like others have suggested drop the WK as it just doesn't offer value for points. I think you should bring back the jetbikes as they are quick and offer a lot of shots. Also you defiantly want some wraithblades/guards. UP THE ELDER!!!!!

Any way you can talk James into giving us a painting tutorial on that camouflage scheme. I did mine in jungle camo, but would definetly give them a dip if James did this.
Same colours as used in IG Painting Tutorial on the channel. Then paint the zig zag pattern with Abandon Black...thinned a little to flow well. Then fill with black. Then neaten and paint zig zag edge with a lighter thinned grey. Then chip up paint work as also shown in IG painting tutorial. Hope this helps. I may well do a painting tutorial for tanks oneday:)
This may have already been mentioned but preliminary bombardment has to be used at the very start not mid game (its kinda in the name) u can’t give tank orders to super heavies it’s only russ tanks (this hasn’t changed from the index). The cadian strategy overlapping fields of fire if used would have murdered that knight in turn 1. Nice battle report but lots of errors on the guard side with the rules.
Great game guys, loved seeing the Shadowsword in action, it's a real beast. I'd deffo drop the Suncannon combo on the Wraithknight it the weakest one in my opinion. Cheers.
Striking Scorpion why didn't you put a crystal targeting matrix on the wave serpent it means you can move with a heavy weapon and not suffer a negative to hit for moving and its only 5 points in the new codex
I was compiling a list of suggestions until you said you are using the index rules in this batrep lol... that explains a lot. I would definitely suggest trying to squeeze in some Dark Reapers and Rangers with the extra points you got from the reductions though
ryan jones WK are very good with the Sword and Board set up or the double Heavy Wraithcannon set up. Just don't pay for secondary weapons. I had my WK finish Mortarion after the rest of my force only put 5 wounds on the bugger. Damage 6 is no joke. He was also playing Iyanden with Yriel, the new book has a relic that really buffs sword and board WKs. 8 attacks with reroll hits and Doom is scary. The D3 Mortal Wounds is nothing to worry about. He just needed to use the new book in this to be honest. Codex vs Index isn't very fair. Iyandens trait would have helped the WK be more efficient as well. His lack of Psykers also hurt him as well.
Svejir I'm not saying they can't do work bit in every batrep so far they haven't done anything and eldar have a very diverse army with all the aspect warriors would just be nice too see them now many of them have improved but it's hard to see them in a list when 500 points is on 1 model that can be ok
ryan jones I didn't know he used WKs in every batrep. If that's the case bring on the variety. I'd like to see some deep striking Wraithguard with D Scythes for shenanigans. Jetseer Council is something I wanna try with Ulthwe. The Stratagem synergy with Ulthwe and Eldrad seems nasty.
Unfortunately I think your gonna have to take your army in a whole new direction, maybe drop the wraith Knight for wraith guard with D scythes in wave surpent or use a stragem to use the Web way?
I love your battle reports. Just my observations, but to be honest, you have denied your entire psychic phase. Casting Doom from a farseer on that shadowsword would have been reroll all wound rolls. Casting guide on the wraithknight etc. But you need to relook at the benefits of Warlocks in your force. Those runes of battle will supercharge your units or at least nerf theirs In addition, while the shield is worth it for the wraithknight, the cannon i think would be better served by having the 2 normal wraithcannons. Swooping hawks are cheap and 3 units will give wounds on landing and 60 shots to help remove the screens and a battallion and 6 squads of dire avengers and 2 warlocks and a farseer could be added if you removed the wraithknight. Perhaps a 10 girl banshee unit (or 3 x 5 girl units) rather than (my favourite unit) scorpions using strategems to get them up the table and into hand to hand turn 1 vs the guard units. Good game though.
Hold on a second... How did james fill the brigade detachement...? He has only 2 elite choices... What am i missing here? What is his 3rd elite choice???? Annnnd... Dont u get 9 command points for a brigade? If so... Where did he get 12 command points from?!?
Jan Bos You get +9 for a Brigade so he has the 3 base plus his 9. As for the elites I am not too familiar with guard so I am not sure what his third elite was
Your right he only has two elites the platoon commanders, he has 3 HQ (tank commander, Lord Commisar, Company Commander) 6 troops, 3 fast attack (individual Sentinels), 4 heavy (two leman russ, two HWS) and the Lord of War.
Definitely switch the sun cannon for the heavy wraith cannons. The sun cannon is like a terrible version of the Gatling gun on the imperial knight. The sword will never be used because most of the time the titanic feet are better. Also wraithlords are not the best unit. Maybe switch them out for some rangers/hemlock wraithfighter/dark reapers/warp spiders/wraithguard. Also the Alaitoc craftworld is the best. I like seeing eldar win;)
the thing to JAMES that sponson's i dont think u should bother just have a heavy botler in the hull... cause u move... ur hitting on 5's (except turret weapon ofc) so dont bother keep them in a way... cheap :) unless u are do leman russes with battle cannons or tank commanders then u can do it pretty worth it then ^^ otherwise... not really needed :P My motto is: Get 'em cheap stack 'em deep
New codex would allow Eldar to field Revenant Titan lord of war, inplace of wraightknight :) which would mob up this imperial army, jumping all over the board each turn, shooting everything insight 60" twin pulsars strenght D AP 2 :) 24" missles S5 AP2
Thinking Alaitoc need to rock up and treat the Guard to a long range spanking, also drop the Wraithlords as 8th is yet another copy/paste for them, heck I'd argue even Vypers are better

Just curious what rules this guy is using for his shadowsword? since it didn't change from the index (except 3d3 shots instead of 1d6 and -40 point change). it gets plus one to hit against titanic models (would have been a extra hit first turn shooting) and rerolls failed wound rolls against titanic, it DOES NOT get orders or reroll the damage, i literally have no idea where he got that from. Not sure what other rules he messed up since i stopped watching it from there. Hope you had fun!

How can you make so many mistakes on your Shadowsword? You forget your anti titanic rules +1 to hit titanic units with all weapons and re-roll wound with main gun against titanic, also you can only use Tank orders on Leman Russ models not Baneblades. Also are these battleforged armies? If so the guard player needs a Supreme command detachment if he wants a regimental bonus for his shadowsword. Preliminary bombardment can't be used mid game but before first turn only. Then again the Eldar player made mistakes aswell so its shame and blame on both sides. Also why keep the destroyed vehicles on board? 8th ed just removes them regardless of whether they explode, but sure it looks a bit cool. Rules and such aside , great match!

I saw the configuration on that Wraithknight and knew it was going to be a Guard win. Strength 6 just doesn't cut the mustard in 8th.

Sun Cannon is also damage 2, not d3, so it would have been in the third bracket from the Wraithlord shooting. It evens out.

I did miss an Elite (only counted the two Platoon Commanders) but he had 3 HQs: Lord Commissar, Company Commander, and a Tank Commander.
23:20 vehicles have to be 50% obscured AND in terrain to benefit cover. It's been FAQ'd. So no cover save for Shadowsword

The FAQ is really clear on cover. Every none infantery unit has to be 50% obscured AND in terrain for coverbonus

ryan jones WK are very good with the Sword and Board set up or the double Heavy Wraithcannon set up. Just don't pay for secondary weapons.
I had my WK finish Mortarion after the rest of my force only put 5 wounds on the bugger. Damage 6 is no joke.
He was also playing Iyanden with Yriel, the new book has a relic that really buffs sword and board WKs. 8 attacks with reroll hits and Doom is scary. The D3 Mortal Wounds is nothing to worry about.
He just needed to use the new book in this to be honest. Codex vs Index isn't very fair.
Iyandens trait would have helped the WK be more efficient as well.
His lack of Psykers also hurt him as well.
Svejir I'm not saying they can't do work bit in every batrep so far they haven't done anything and eldar have a very diverse army with all the aspect warriors would just be nice too see them now many of them have improved but it's hard to see them in a list when 500 points is on 1 model that can be ok
ryan jones I didn't know he used WKs in every batrep. If that's the case bring on the variety. I'd like to see some deep striking Wraithguard with D Scythes for shenanigans. Jetseer Council is something I wanna try with Ulthwe. The Stratagem synergy with Ulthwe and Eldrad seems nasty.

I love your battle reports. Just my observations, but to be honest, you have denied your entire psychic phase. Casting Doom from a farseer on that shadowsword would have been reroll all wound rolls. Casting guide on the wraithknight etc. But you need to relook at the benefits of Warlocks in your force. Those runes of battle will supercharge your units or at least nerf theirs In addition, while the shield is worth it for the wraithknight, the cannon i think would be better served by having the 2 normal wraithcannons. Swooping hawks are cheap and 3 units will give wounds on landing and 60 shots to help remove the screens and a battallion and 6 squads of dire avengers and 2 warlocks and a farseer could be added if you removed the wraithknight. Perhaps a 10 girl banshee unit (or 3 x 5 girl units) rather than (my favourite unit) scorpions using strategems to get them up the table and into hand to hand turn 1 vs the guard units. Good game though.

Jan Bos You get +9 for a Brigade so he has the 3 base plus his 9. As for the elites I am not too familiar with guard so I am not sure what his third elite was

Your right he only has two elites the platoon commanders, he has 3 HQ (tank commander, Lord Commisar, Company Commander) 6 troops, 3 fast attack (individual Sentinels), 4 heavy (two leman russ, two HWS) and the Lord of War.
Definitely switch the sun cannon for the heavy wraith cannons. The sun cannon is like a terrible version of the Gatling gun on the imperial knight. The sword will never be used because most of the time the titanic feet are better.
Also wraithlords are not the best unit. Maybe switch them out for some rangers/hemlock wraithfighter/dark reapers/warp spiders/wraithguard. Also the Alaitoc craftworld is the best.

the thing to JAMES that sponson's i dont think u should bother just have a heavy botler in the hull... cause u move... ur hitting on 5's (except turret weapon ofc) so dont bother keep them in a way... cheap :)
unless u are do leman russes with battle cannons or tank commanders then u can do it pretty worth it then ^^ otherwise... not really needed :P

New codex would allow Eldar to field Revenant Titan lord of war, inplace of wraightknight :) which would mob up this imperial army, jumping all over the board each turn, shooting everything insight 60" twin pulsars strenght D AP 2 :) 24" missles S5 AP2
Thinking Alaitoc need to rock up and treat the Guard to a long range spanking, also drop the Wraithlords as 8th is yet another copy/paste for them, heck I'd argue even Vypers are better

I think dark reapers would help you and removing wraithknight and adding some form of support to help the guardians.

Just curious what rules this guy is using for his shadowsword? since it didn't change from the index (except 3d3 shots instead of 1d6 and -40 point change). it gets plus one to hit against titanic models (would have been a extra hit first turn shooting) and rerolls failed wound rolls against titanic, it DOES NOT get orders or reroll the damage, i literally have no idea where he got that from. Not sure what other rules he messed up since i stopped watching it from there. Hope you had fun!

The shadowsword should have been 4s to hit becuz +1 vs titanic and you cant use the thank order on it..
max out on shuriken cannons....assault weapons are the way to go in this edition.
guard have always been a hard counter for Eldar. Even before they were good.

How can you make so many mistakes on your Shadowsword? You forget your anti titanic rules +1 to hit titanic units with all weapons and re-roll wound with main gun against titanic, also you can only use Tank orders on Leman Russ models not Baneblades. Also are these battleforged armies? If so the guard player needs a Supreme command detachment if he wants a regimental bonus for his shadowsword. Preliminary bombardment can't be used mid game but before first turn only. Then again the Eldar player made mistakes aswell so its shame and blame on both sides. Also why keep the destroyed vehicles on board? 8th ed just removes them regardless of whether they explode, but sure it looks a bit cool. Rules and such aside , great match!
