No es la mejor versión, pese a la mano del maestro Kopman; queda en un punto intermedio entre las versiones camerísticas (de las que Kopman es claramente un maestro) y las más "sinfónicas" (al estilo Richeter). La reducción al mínimo del número de solistas, si bien muestra una indudable bravura (son muy buenos, sin duda), conspira contra la diverisdad de voces que debería ser característica de la Pasión. Me parece además que no van bien acompasados en más de un pasaje, aunque le reconozco la intención de transparentar voces, más que en otras versiones.
Zo heeft Bach het bedoeld, Koopman een gigant achter het orgel en hier duidelijk te horen een van de beste dirigenten van de wereld. Heb tich uitvoeringen gehoord deze is voor mij de beste.

Magnificent version of the master Ton Koopman with a Galicia Symphony at a great level, excellent image, sound and performance but a huge regret for the many empty seats.

Besides genius Johann Sebastian Bach there was another genius musician: Karl Richter! He made a recording for eternity and he known the score of this masterpiece. Koopmann is horrible. Gruesome. Why the heck does he choose this fast tempi? There's no need to perform the Matthew passion in this historical style. And it's not a dance! How you feel if you loose a closed and beloved human being? "Kommt Ihr Töchter helft mir klagen"- Koopmann may became famous but this does not mean that he's a good musician.
We are fortunate that RUclips makes available several performances of Mattäus Passion. For me the massive instrumental and vocal forces are perhaps better suited for the Verdi Requiem. Employing a countertenor to sing the alto part is interesting. My preference is for the Südtirol and the Netherlands Bach Society, with smaller choruses positioned antiphonally for the opening number, plus uniformly period instruments. A small group of boy sopranos sing the ripieno. The Südtirol is astonishing in that all singers are male, including the amazing young musicians who ably perform the soprano and alto solos.
Having a countertenor sing the alto material is fairly common. In addition, while large for Bach's day, this is a tiny orchestra compared to what is called for for Verdi or Beriloz. The Netherlander recordings are almost always top self. BWV 244 has a special place in the hearts of the Dutch. I'm still researching why that is the case. If you happen to know, please share! :)
The Passion of Christ is not a minuetto. Grief cannot be expressed with speed. How can one be so musically insensitive? You can't trivialize the emotions to please the average anaware listener!
