    The thing about the changes in the website is that the results actually become more and more accurate over time. Obviously your actual dna never changes but the database in their pool of info continues to grow as people submit their dna, so they will update yours to become more and more accurate and honed in over time! Super cool

    • @nunyabiznez6381
      @nunyabiznez6381 3 года назад +6

      That is so true though recently Ancestry changed the way they report and they don't report any trace dna under 2%. I predicted 1.5% Native American but they don't show any for me. My cousin who has twice as much as me on paper shows 3% which makes sense. 23andme shows a higher resolution (down to 0.1%) which means they are more detailed but they have only tested 10 million people whereas Ancestry has tested 16 million meaning Ancestry has a higher database so their information, while a lower resolution, is more accurate. Originally Ancestry would only report a region so you might get "European" or "Sub-Saharan African" or "Western Asia" etc. Now they are down to "England" "Ireland" "Kenyan" "Iranian" etc. Mine told me the counties in Ireland and what part of Massachusetts my ancestors were from for the last 200 years which is pretty good but they could not tell me about my Spanish or Native American ancestors from 400 years ago. The best thing for anyone to do is to actually go to each dna testing web site and do them all. This would come to maybe half a dozen tests and that will give you a better and more accurate picture. If you have five different dna tests and one says 7%- 10% Nigerian and another says 12% Nigerian and a third says between 3% and 11% Nigerian and yet another says between 9% and 14% Nigerian and the last one says 12%-17% Nigerian then you can reasonably say you are most likely around 10%-12% Nigerian. five years from now they will all update the accuracy and you might see 11.2% Nigerian.

      @@nunyabiznez6381 I am not well enough on money to try out all the DNA tests. Do you think I should just go for the 23andMe DNA test? It seems to be the most detailed, even showing which cities your ancestors came from which is cool. It would be boring to just see something like "Yeah you're from Africa.. somewhere... also Scandinavia". I am also interested in my ancestors from many years ago too.

    • @nunyabiznez6381
      @nunyabiznez6381 3 года назад

      @@ZairaL03 23 and me gives you a higher resolution results so in other words you will find out about an amount as small as 1/2 of 1%. But they won't tell you the region of the country your ancestors are from. Ancestry is the best one for that. Ancestry told me I am 43% Irish, 27% Scottish, 25% English and 5% Norwegian. Then they broke it down and told me when my ancestors came to New England and which states and counties they came from. They told me what part of Ireland my ancestors are from as well as what part of England. But they could not tell me what haplogroups my mother and father belonged to. 23 and me told me I am 98.5% British/Irish and 1.5% Spanish and they told me what haplogroups my father and my mother belonged to. So basically each gave me different pieces to the puzzle. If you are limited I suggest you choose based on what you are most curious about. If you want a detailed all around picture of your ancestry and don't mind that they won't report anything under 2% then Ancestry is the way to go. If you want to know what your mother's, mother's. mother's, mother's.... female line was then 23 and me could be the way to go. Personally I liked Ancestry more because I also get documented genealogy information from them. You can't look up census records on 23 and me.

      @@nunyabiznez6381 Thank you! I will pick 23 and me as the first one for now! I'm just too curious what some of those less than 2% are in my blood! :) Since I am half Norwegian and half Russian (Chechnyan) I've always wondered what lays under all that. For the later future I'll save up for Ancestry to get the other detailed info!

      Not an “ignorant assertion” at all as it is quite true. You can be nearly 100% or even 100% European, African, Asian, etc, but if you narrow in on the countries themselves in these regions, chances are there will be some relative, possibly unbelievably distant that came from a different country within the region or even from a nearby region. Being purely 100% of anything is not impossible but unlikely.

      John Lee you can be almost completely korean but your dna comes down and is changed in so many ways that your not tied down 110% to one thing. your dna that traces back to ethnicity is effected by generational eating habits (including alcoholism), generational trauma (an event like the holocaust for example), the area and even city, major climate changes, etc etc etc. it would be nearly impossible to be just one thing. (all of this information i got for my mentor who has a phd in genomics, and who has devoted years and years to researching and teaching in this very subject so it’s not an ignorant assertion (; )

    I think it’s important that we understand that race and culture are vastly different concepts to delineate. I’m 100% Korean but living in America also afforded me that same cultural disconnect as you suffered from. I’d be remiss to assert that most first world Asian countries like Korea and Japan have become so Westernized that culturally there is a merging in terms of culture even if food, language, and customs might be different... there is a slew of various western cultural expressions in those countries where you could fit in pretty well there because the culture is expressing itself in a more Western vibe than not... In terms of racism, I got it from whites and blacks so I think we need recognize that racism is a sin issue in the human heart, just like lust and lying. Before anything else Jeanine, if you say you want to learn, I highly recommend books by Thomas Sowell, Shelby Steele, Walter Williams, Jason Riley, Booker T Washington, Malcolm X, and listen to pastor Voddie Baucham... you might find their positions pretty compelling...

    Y’all I can totally relate. I’m Native Hawaiian, Filipino, Japanese, Okinawan, German, Irish, Austrian, and Portuguese. My parents and grandparents are all mixed. I was born and raised in Hawaii, so it’s really common here for people to have multiple ethnicities. Most of our ancestors came here to work the plantations. Here we are taught to respect and love everyone, and to be proud of who we are. We are all so unique. Fearfully and wonderfully created by God. Unfortunately, I can relate with struggling with “ethnic identity “. I never felt like I was enough of any of my heritages. And unfortunately some people shamed me for it. I wasn’t Japanese enough. I wasn’t Filipino enough. I wasn’t Native Hawaiian enough. Growing up I didn’t learn to speak any of these languages, just a few words here and there. And we don’t practice a lot of customs from each of my cultures either. My mom wanted us to know that we should be proud of who we are, but that we needed to remember WHOSE we were before anything. To remember the importance of representing God’s Kingdom , not just our cultures. I’m proud of my heritage, I’m proud to be American, and I’m proud to be a Child of God. ❤️ Mahalo Nui for this video Jeanine. Continue to let Jesus lead you and use you for His Glory. Note: there's a significant amount of admixed & tribal genotypes found among Mexicans that are also found among those in Guatemala.
    CRI Genetics offers an Advanced Ancestry Analysis (from 5 to 8000 generations back) as well as a Recent Analysis (last 5 generations: typical Autosomal DNA test). Doing these can be an eye opener (& it shows how much folk nowadays are from many areas all over the world & likely share DNA found among various ethnicities & races).
    Oh, & a thing I get a kick out of is when racists get their DNA results & learn that they're not purely "X" themselves.* 🤣

    Hi Jeanine! I'm from Guatemala and I'm sure you will be fine when visiting. There are many areas in Guatemala that are dangerous, but if you stick to the touristic attractions (Lake Atitlán, Antigua Guatemala, Semuc Champey, etc) you won't be at risk. You could take some safety measures such as maybe not using public transportation. It's a beautiful country and I'm positive you will have a great time 🤗

And since being Guatemalan is a nationality, versus part of one’s ethnic background (just like being American, being from the US, is a nationality, not an ethnicity), my mom is half Spanish and half African. And my dad is Indigenous, African and Spanish. 💗 And I couldn’t be more proud of my ethnic background! 💗

    My grandma is from England. Her father is from Germany one of her great Grandmother's was a displaced Native American. My grandfather is largely German and French. My family on that side speaks Pennsylvanian Dutch. (a variety of German.) my mom is largely Dutch and slightly Irish.
    I have a few question marks but waiting on my DNA results and I hope they clear it up. 👍
    Meanwhile my Husband is Native Mexican with some European and Mongolian. He has not taken a DNA test so all we know is what his mom has found through research.

    I’m the youngest of seven also. I just see someone from Texas. I have mixed grandchildren. My daughter is white and her husband is black. I don’t judge people by their color. There is enough of that in the world. I’ve seen some looks from people when I was out with the kids. And it makes me mad that people are bigots. I think it’s happening less and less. More people have been enlightened about race.

    Fellow Latin American here! My parents are Colombian but I was born and raised in America and I too have struggled with the idea of not feeling like you belong anywhere. There’s a saying that goes “ ni de allí, ni de allá” which translates to “neither from here, nor from there” and it encapsulates the feeling we feel that we don’t feel good enough for both sides. I wanted to point out that you have a lot of European in you and it makes sense because (of course ur dad is German) but also, Latin America is all mixed races. Because of colonialism, Latin Americans are mixed of Spain, Africa & native Latin American. You should do more research on it, but it might explain why you have more European in you than “native Guatemalan” because of Spanish colonialism! :)

      HISPANA era el antiguo nombre de España.
      Por tanto, hispanos son los nacidos en España.
      Incluso nativos, sin una gota de sangre española dicen que son hispanos,
      ¿Por qué?

    Thank you for this video Jeanine! I live in central europe and because of the holocaust our grandparents were taught to not to talk about being jewish. My dad grew up not knowing that he was jewish, and we figured it out through the rest of the family, I have relatives in Israel, and it is so great to know that I belong somewhere. But my family has German, Serbian, and Hungarian too so I always felt that I'm neither of those. It truly is a difficult question, but I came to understand that we are one nation, joining under the flag of Jesus Christ, and we don't need to be just one specific nationality ❤

    PSA about DNA databases - positive feedback no bad vibes
    I’m so happy you got to see what you’re made of lol I too did a test (I’m French Canadian and Canadian indigenous and also a biotechnologist (Métis, Maliseet and Abenaki)). When I took it they told me I was from northern-eastern Marocain and Algerian, specifically of mozabite decent.... no French... not even Irish... juste from Northern Africa and basque and Spanish. like girl what? All to say if you get really odd results and you’re of indigenous decent a lot of us are from very genetic structured areas and many of our traits especially those from smaller communities may be lacking from the databases. So the databases will try its best to categorize you to a cultural group which will have some of the similar traits to yours. So, yes maybe my indigenous ancestry have genetic similarities with the mozabites people of Northern Africa. Which genetically is interesting. Maybe mozabites from 1000s of years somehow came to Canada, or their genetics similarly mutated as my indigenous ancestry. Thus, gave me those results. But, all in all if you’re mixed race and you have random ancestry which makes absolutely no sense to you. Keep checking as they constantly update their databases, and do not despair. Especially, if you’re from micro communities. Such as indigenous people of North America.
