  • When religious people mistreat others, they give a bad name to religion and turn many people off faith altogether. What does God value most: belief, good works, or something else? Dennis explores scriptures from both the Old and New Testaments to reveal what God truly desires from us.

That is why I became a Christian: logic, reason, and science. Where do moral laws come from or the category we call beauty or the incredible fine-tuning of the universe? Or the dual nature of human beings: angelic but also worse than beasts - why is that? Or where does the mind and consciousness come from? Yes, I used all of the above to begin my search for truth. And came to Christ. Thank you for reminding me of the foundations of my search.

@@michaelbabbitt3837 With all due respect. You are speaking nonsense. Everything you said is wrong. You are using an argument from ignorance. “I don’t know therefore god.” It’s the famous god of the gaps fallacy. Just because you don’t know doesn’t mean you can assert what you want to believe. And why believe in your god. All those arguments you just made could be used to support any other god. I could say “oh the universe is fine tuned therefore Allah is real, or Zeus, etc.” But everything you said is wrong. The universe is not fine tuned. It arises from natural law. Science does not require gods. In fact it rules it out as a rational concept. Lastly, morality comes from nature as well, particular physics. Evolution to be more specific. But regardless, morality cannot come from any religion. No religion reproduces what we view to be moral today. You cannot have any objective moral standard from religion. Because it would be entirely subjective on what that deity (or deities) desired.

Bad religious people certainly don't help, and it's easy to see how being able to convince others that you are a "person of God" would really appeal to people who are in reality, whether overtly or covertly, very selfish, or even evil in nature. And being able to dismiss anything they do by saying they're "forgiven", or that "Only God can judge me!" But I've just never seen the appeal in being religious, and the stories are absurd. I don't believe a genuinely good person would be fundamentally less good without a religious motive to be that good person. And I've never had any "creator of the universe" tell me how I should behave or worship them, it's only ever been other, often unremarkable people saying it.

So basically this is a clickbait or bait-and-switch video intended as an advertisement for your own site. I guess PragerU cannot even be honest about the content of their own videos...
But let's address what was shared in this video.
"Data shows that religious people tend to be better" I am genuinely curious what data Dennis is referring to and by what standard he is measuring this. Because many studies I've seen came to the conclusion religiosity of people doesn't make them "better people".
For instance studies have shown that religious people generally lie just as much if not more than atheists do. And if you look at religiosity in prisons, atheism is (or at least used to be, it's been a while since I've checked) significantly less represented, while the percentage of religious people even increased.
Also if you compare crime rates of mostly secular or atheistic countries with countries that are mostly religious, most of the times the secular countries have significantly less crime.
Personally I don't think being an atheist makes you a better person, I rather think there are third factors that effect both (like wealth and education), but the same goes for being a theist.
Dennis states that religious people donate more to charity and volunteer more. But that isn't really surprising considering that many religions and churches expect or even demand that their members pay tithe to the church, which often is at least 10% of your income. So yes, in that sense religious people easily donate the most.
The same goes for the volunteering. Much of which is done either for or through the church. This doesn't mean it isn't great that they do this, but very often the goal of a lot of charity of the church is to benefit, advocate and promote their religion or church.
Dennis mentioned Voltaire was an atheist, but he really wasn't. Don't get me wrong, Voltaire was anti-religion and didn't believe in a God as most religions portrayed him, but he himself was more of a deist.
I think the quote Dennis refers to is "I want my lawyer, my tailor, my servants, even my wife to believe in God, because it means that I shall be cheated and robbed and cuckolded less often. … If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him". That or "There is no God, but don’t tell that to my servant, lest he murder me at night."
But I am genuinely curious whether behaving better out of fear of consequences makes somebody a "better person". If people are convinced they are being surveilled by the police, they generally behave better. So are people that are convinced of this "better people"?
In my opinion, if the only reason you behave in a certain way or refrain yourself from doing horrible things is the thought of being either punished or missing out on a reward, in my opinion you are not a better person.

But Denis, what does the Talmud teach jews about non-jews?

  • @theprodigalheel3942
    @theprodigalheel3942 3 месяца назад

Religion is nothing more than mans interpretation of Scripture.... Religion doesn't make men better,,,, faith makes men better. There is a difference. You can be the most religious person , give tithe, volunteer to help people, preach the word ... however, it won't make you not corrupt if enmity is found in you.
Judaism is an ideology, not a religion. The Jews were already fully embracing the Ammonite god when Jesus was alive. One of the best quotes I heard was this.....
A man with a thousand demons recognized Jesus, but men with thousands of scriptures couldn't. If you did a proper chronological study, you would realize that the Jewish Talmud was nothing more than Philo Of Alexandria's attempt to twist the Hebrew Tanakh to fit Greek philosophy. The Christians were deceived by the Holy Roman Empire. While the "Jews" were perverting the scriptures with Greek agnostic philosophy, the Pagans were perverting scriptures with their paganism.
So I hope this is a fair enough answer. You can be religious all you want and perform all the works but works without faith is ☠️.

Some common arguments are the cosmological argument, fine tuning of the universe to trillions of a degree, hundreds of fine tuned parameters on earth for life to exist, a 3.5 billion character information code called DNA that just jumps into existence, the irreducible complexity of the cell, objective morality existing, immaterial realities existing like the laws of logic/reasoning capabilities/free will, the scientific facts in the Bible, the fulfillment of numerous biblical prophecies, the messianic prophecies being fulfilled especially Isaiah 53 which predicts Jesus 700 years before he came and Psalm 22 which predicts his crucifixion 1000 years before it happened. This was predicted 700 years before Jesus was born. Psalm 22 which predicts Jesus’s crucifixion 1000 years before it happened including being nailed through the hands and feet. This is significant because this was predicted 700 years before crucifixion was invented by the Romans. We know these passages were written before Jesus since thanks to the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls we have copies of these passages that are older then Jesus himself. Atheism is a position. It can not be refuted. It would be like refuting poverty.
Atheism is the position of suspending any acknowledgment as to the reality of any particular god until sufficient credible evidence is presented. It is natural, rational, and even prudent to be skeptical of unsubstantiated claims, especially extraordinary ones.
      Do you agree?

Agreed, trying to enforce beliefs upon a population is bound to fail. But like the Soviets that blindly worshiped Marx and Lenin, so do most religious people in the world. They worship Jesus, the Quran, the Torah, God without really understanding it. They do it just because, and they like how they are, it gives them a sense of security and a well being, it helps you fall asleep at night, but they don't want to try to find out the truth. When people become atheists after reading the Bible or the Quran cover to cover, it's no coincidence. They are horrible books from our modern point of view. So if you want to believe that your god condoned slavery and women virgin unmarried women marrying their rapists, fine, but it would make many feel uncomfortable, and what many religious people who read it do is just to ignore the passage and focus about how Jesus said "may he who is without sin cast the first stone" (not knowing there is a strong case for this passage having being in later version of the Bible).

Treating people with patience and kindness when they don’t deserve it is difficult. Being honest with yourself and others is hard. Atheism is the easier path in life because you can live however you want.

Yeah, and your "Judeo-Christian Values" allow you to smear me as a follower of Hamas because I don´t like the massacres in Gaza. Dennis is not only wrong he is also not moral.

@@maxschreck4095 I noticed a number of your comments on this channel are quite harsh. Which was my point. When you don’t believe in God, you can treat people however you want and you couldn’t care less how it makes them feel.
When a person comes to God and receives forgiveness, the guilt and shame of their life washes away, and they feel free from hate and anger. The appropriate response is one of gratitude. As someone who is grateful for their forgiveness I am in no position to judge you. Not everyone who calls themselves a Christian is a Christian. You can tell the real ones because they are trying their best to be kind to others. Not that it’s easy.
As for Israel and Palestine, I think those two peoples have a lot of hate for each other. And as you know, hate leads to the dark side and to violence. I don’t think there is anything wrong with supporting Palestine. I know they received several billions of dollars in aid to build their nation, but they used the money to build tunnels and stock pile weapons. I think they could have used their resources better. But, this what hate does to people.

And how exactly can atheists "live how ever you want"? We live our lives according to the laws and our ethical conscience.

@@anthonymorris5084 Yeah you’re right, I didn’t word that very well. I just meant that Christians are held to a higher ethical standard than atheists because atheists can follow their own conscience whereas Christians follow God’s. At least in principle.
