BMW 7 Series Hood PPF Wrap - Oversized Hood - No Stretching - No Pull Marks

  • Large hoods were traditionally wrapped in THREE pieces of Paint Protection Film.... NASTY! I demonstrate how I wrap the hood of a 2018 BMW 740Li in a single piece of Paint Protection Film. Same technique can be applied to similar hoods, such as Maserati Levante's, BMW 5 Series, Jaguar F-Types, etc....
    On a black vehicle, its a great example of how I apply the PPF without any stretch marks, pull marks, or more importantly, TENSION across any of the edges.
    The reason why I tack the front of the hood first, move to the back and then lift and re-apply the front, is to allow the PPF to naturally stretch. When reapplied, there is absolutely ZERO tension around the sizes, front or back of the hood. This eliminates any unwanted fingers, or lifting.

    Great Video Norb! Love this Channel. Would love to see a video on using a steamer/heat gun to stretch film around mirrors and other difficult areas. Keep up the great work.

    Great videos Norb, Appreciate all the effort you put into making these instructional videos.I was wondering if you can do a Tesla Model X PPF wrapping tutorial. The front Bumper and Trunk area seems to be tricky

    so I had a idea for helping with sealing the edges once your done. iv used a thin amount of silicon around the edges of my wrap I user on my car and it really helped with any film trying to come loose over time.

    It's absolutely amazing to me how complicated a people make putting on a f****** sticker on a hood. I've done this car about 150 times in ppf. I have never made it so f****** complicated. Wash the f****** car, put the film on and squeegee it out. It's literally that f****** easy. But Mr Big Man over here has to make a name for himself so we're going to make this look like it's the hardest thing anybody's ever done and only I can do it and you have to do it my way otherwise you're not going to do it. What a chump

    Hi I cant find full hood wrap size.
    Question: can I partially wrap the hood half and using another cutting half where its join at the middle?

    What Film are you using? If I tacked those front corners like you did, then re-lifted them there would be hard glue lines all over the place. It was slipping back along the edges then you just pulled it up and stretched it and laid it back down. Not a chance I could even think of doing it this way without a ton of work marks. Tack by A post on fender, other side on fender, then on headlights and go to town. Any tacks I have on the panel will always show glue lines... This has to be suntek or Llumar....

      He does use XPEL - However, according to his Instagram post on this vehicle, this is STEK DYNOshield film. 🙂

    If you dont mind me asking, what do you use for your tack solution? I ask because sometimes when I do large stretches like that I get stretch marks. I'm wondering if it has something to do with my tack solution

    • @ADOLFOSANDOVAL
      @ADOLFOSANDOVAL 5 лет назад +3

      Eric Wigginton never tack on the panel before the stretch. Always tack your film for example on the fenders..stretch across, then pull and tack at the headlights or bumper. Make sure the film is floating on the hood and then you can squeegee the slip solution out.

    I see your using Steel blades, why not carbon? Just curious

    • @ThePPFChannel
      @ThePPFChannel  5 лет назад +1

      It has just been a personal preference of mine. First time I ever went to break off a carbon blade tip, it sliced my hand like warm butter. I picked up an art knife as well, so I'll see how it goes with that.

    Edges... How do you address the PPF along the edges of the roof????

    • @ThePPFChannel

      If there is a gasket, I try to tuck the film under the rubber gasket. Check out my Instagram, there are a few posts on what I'm talking about. Close up videos. :)

  • @getstupid1087

    Can you use that to wrap macan hood?

    • @ThePPFChannel
      @ThePPFChannel  4 года назад

      In a way, yes!! The Macan hood is just a huge piece and will require lots of care not to overstretch the film. Keep in mind, if you try to do the hood of a Macan in 1 piece, you are stretching the film thin, and it will be prone to damage from stone chips. The rocks can slit the film easier, and the film has the potential of peeling back on the rock chips.

  • @matthewpham

    If you’ve stretched the film, there’s tension in it.

    • @LeakyWaders
      @LeakyWaders 5 лет назад +1

      He never said there wasn't, but clearly stated that the edges had no tension as there were no fingers.

    • @ThePPFChannel
      @ThePPFChannel  4 года назад +3

      I wanted to distribute the tension evenly across the edges. Too much tension in one specific are will be a good point of failure in the future.
