    I think the one reason SW ships don't reach the speeds of our modern fighter craft...could be based on the fact such real world craft gain lift through free wing mechanics. SW vessels use repulser lift power over aerodynamics to achieve lift....from ground to space I may add...thus doubling the power/fuel demands

    I think the main problem with the Mandalorian fleet is that the rotating mechanisms for the wings on all those fighters is gonna be a massive pain in the ass to maintain and fix.

    • @LoreTours
      @LoreTours  Год назад +3

      Hadn't thought of that, looks flashy but yeah useless if the wings get jammed.

    The rotating wings are cool but throughout history we’ve seen carrier aircraft have folding wings for storage but the guatlent makes sense kinda for how it is used for a troop transport and a quick way to use it’s wings to slow it’s self down quickly for drop zones.

    I suspect that the oddly-low atmospheric speed of Star Wars fighters (even specifically atmospheric ones like the TIE Striker) is a result of the very first such figures coming from 1980s RPG sourcebooks. The speeds they used were chose because going any faster in an atmosphere would've been pointless from a gameplay standpoint. And since then, those original speed figures have just been stuck with because that's how it's always been, and new ships have all been given official atmospheric speeds to line up with those of the OT ships.
    And both Lucasfilm previously and Disney now are strangely reluctant to get rid of those old sourcebook figures no matter how little sense they make. Just look at how many decades of fan outcry it got before they would acknowledge that Super Star Destroyers are much longer than 8km.

    Tie Interceptor has 104 DPF and Fang class 85 DPF. From where do u have info that's fang is more agile?

    • @RedXlV
      @RedXlV Год назад +1

      DPF is a stat from the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games that hasn't been applied to anything introduced afterward. (Unlike MGLT, which remains a widely applied stat for all spacecraft.) Not even prequel ships like the Eta-2 and ARC-170 have been given DPF ratings, let alone a ship from the Rebels cartoon like the Fang. That 85 DPF for the Fang comes from a fan-made RPG stat sheet, not from any official source. So the only info we have for how agile the Fang is would be comparing its on-screen performance to that of other fighters. And in Rebels, speed and agility seemed to be what it was all about.

    A reason I would feel that SW ships are "slow" because you need to account for the fact that the engines that produce thrust in SW universe works BOTH in space and in atmosphere.
    Look up current generation ion engines. They currently produce thrust in orders of magnitudes SMALLER than even a normal desk fan can.
    Meanwhile, the ion engines (which most SW spaceship actually uses, not just the ones in TIE fighters) can propel any spacecraft in SW to close to 1000kmph.
    So its a worth trade-off imo. An engine that works both in space and in atmosphere. It's something that current technology can never hope to achieve. Our airbreathing engines now can easily do 7000kmph yes, and rockets can blast things to 30,000 kmph (space shuttle), but the first cannot do space flight, and the 2nd has immense fuel requirements to even reach that speed.
    SW ships don't have huge fuel tanks attached anywhere. Meaning the ion engines are extremely well built for what it is capable of.

    The TIE Interceptor is better all around. It has 6 light laser cannons, is more maneuverable, faster, and has better acceleration. Both craft are unshielded.
    The Fang Fighter may be able to put up a fight against a standard TIE Fighter, which is still much faster than it while likely matching it in terms of maneuverability, but a TIE Interceptor should absolutely outperform the Fang.
    Sadly, we're at a point when all of this doesn't matter. What matters is who the "good guys" and the "bad guys" are.
    We are at a point where the Imperials could be using TIE Defenders and would lose out to the Mandalorians flying Z-95s.
    So pre-established lore and stats for either one of the ships means nothing.
    The TIE Interceptors, supposedly the best dogfighting ships in the entire Star Wars universe piloted by the best the Empire had to offer, will most likely perform like R-41s piloted by vegetables.

    the Fang is an utter pile of garbage. I would rather be in a TIE fighter let alone an interceptor then a Fang....and old A-Wing or even a Z95 headhunter over a fang. older cheaper and more easilly acquired ships beat the doors off these things and it baffles me as to why they are still in use. sure the thrust vectoring helps them dart about, but they are painfully slow for the era they are in, painfully under gunned, and have no protection whatsoever. TIES are as nimble or close to as nimble, and better armed, and faster so in the lightweight brawling fighter catagory they get stomped, the A-Wing in all of its variations makes them look utterly civilian in nature.
    again if your poor, trying to put together acceptable fighters but on a budget, the Z95 is -everywhere- cheaper and just simply better or equal to this thing in every category but maneuverability. and the TIE fighter (which we know they captured at least seven of) is hands down better in -all- categories besides having a hyperdrive.

      If I might add something (not a dealbreaker), the Fang has an open cockpit allowing the pilot to indentify possible targets coming from the side or from above. All of the TIE models have one round windshield at the front, and maybe a bunch of line shaped windshields, but that's it. Now I would say the wings would be in the way, but that is a problem only the bomber and figher have (the only part of the interceptors wings visible from the cockpit are the 4 pointy things). Again, not a dealbreaker, but something maybe worth mentioning.
      Edit: it also depens on the pilot. A terrible pilot in the supirior craft is still terrible.
