- ■ PERU, CUSCO: Having had nothing but poor overpriced meals (with two possible exceptions) in restaurants throughout Peru my expectations weren't exactly sky high as I ordered a pizza from the hotel I'd just arrived at in Lima.
In fact I'd promised myself to not eat at a restaurant again whilst here. But three things made me change my mind. First, I had not had time breakfast in Cusco before my flight to Lima, and was hence starving. Second, the boutique hotel I'd just checked into was so ridicilously pricey that I thought, surely they can cook a decent meal. Third, and most importantly, the restaurant menu was dominated by Western fast food option. In other words, my kind of menu!
So I decided to give pizza in Peru yet another go! Needless to say, that's something I shouldn't have done. . . for nothing could have prepared me for the disaster that showed up when room service came knocking at my door! This was hands down the worst pizza I've ever had!
I like the taxi driver. He was helping you get charged the right amount and not get overcharged, as well as making sure you got your change.

thats why you take licensed taxi drivers from the airport in a foreign country. Gets you to where you need, answers your questions, gives you some advice in exchange for a handsome tip. Fair game imo

Ex-restaurant manager here. If you ever order something and end up hating it you should definitely tell the manager and politely ask if they could help you out (to zero out what you ordered and let you re-order). 99% of the time they want good reviews/publicity and would be more than happy to rather than let a guest leave unhappy. Just don't eat like 70% of it and then say you don't like it, that's obnoxious and will make you look like a shill. PRO-TIP: If you suspect they are going to give you a hard time say it tastes spoiled/rotten and you don't trust it. It gives a double excuse to get rid of what's in front of you and not get a re-order of the same meal (because obviously, it will come from the same supply.).

I searched up on google how much the hotel room was. He got a “Business loft” which was around $285 per night. It’s basically the most expensive room you can get. Poor Harold.

He was telling you that the masa was made out of yucca, which is a root vegetable used all over south and central America (also Mexico), and when it is deep fried it puffs up. Btw if you read this I'll take the opportunity to tell you to consider traveling to Costa Rica, it's a beautiful place with amazing beaches, forests and people

@@debsattam1 I went to Dominos and it gave me severe food poisoning. Was on the toilet 24/7 for 3 days in a row. But I also had an annoying stomach issue bothering me for 2 years. And the severe food poisoning actually fixed the 2 year stomach problem. So it sucked for 3 days but it also cured me XD

Never ever buy hotel food. It's expensive and taste like shit no matter what country you're in. Don't eat at restaurants in the tourist traps either.
We stayed in an upscale Hotel in Wuxi China for about 6 weeks while installing a manufacturing facility. The room was very similar to yours, maybe even nicer and it cost about $108 a day with an extra $12 for meals. It was VERY nice to have a landing spot that nice in a foreign country.
I think the girl that gave harald the pizza got nervous when he saw him filming and wearing a robe lol.
Looks like you skipped the part of investigating Peruvian food. Peru is known for its food and many tourist go the there strictly for that. You've been missing out on most of it from the looks of it. The only Peruvian dish that you've eaten so far was chancho al palo which was the pork that you've had and you actually liked it. If you're looking to eat pizza then you're better off going to Italy. If you want to try real Peruvian food, go to not so fancy restaurants or the street vendors. No hotel food is ever that great and wherever you go, try to order typical Peruvian dishes. The food is great and there's a reason why Peru has the biggest and best food festival in Latin America every year.
Your videos are very fun to watch and you've easily become my favorite travel vlogger. Keep up the good work and I hope you finally find good Peruvian food!

What I love about Harald and South American culture is that sharing is caring vibe with the taxi driver. Harold's breaking bread with the guy and the taxi driver is super cool, even lowering the price on the Inca/Coke for Harald.

When visiting areas like this we have always made good acquaintances with local cab drivers. We ask them to take us to the “non tourist” areas. They always show us “their” area with pride. We have been up in the hills and mountain areas where we have seen local children playing in streams, and eaten at small local pubs, and seen culture and living that otherwise we wouldnt have gotten to see. We have asked the drivers to spend the day with us, and bought them lunch, drinks etc, Then end the day with a very good tip that makes their day too.
They have shared their phone numbers with us too.....great memories.

I've had entire holidays, where everything just sucked.
Remember that this is the season of thanksgiving. So you are being tested and being reminded to be thankful for the good things you've experienced in life. That is the way I try and look at things anyway.
Harald, I'm originally from Colombia (South America), and I have been living in the U.S for almost 17 years now. I have tried food from many different countries/cultures. I like American fast-food too (I freaking love Buffalo hot chicken wings), but Peruvian food is easily the best food I have ever eaten. You're missing out on the experience of a lifetime. Peruvian ceviche (seafood) is the best worldwide, their chicken is top-notch, and the lomo-salteado is phenomenal. They have fantastic salads as well, deserts, and drinks. I love your videos, and as much as I could shit on Peru (because I hate their politics today), it is literally a crime to claim Peru has bad food or that it did not meet your standards. It is far superior to anything you can find in America, Asia, or even Europe.

You are your tribe, not an 'indian'. Indian (as in native American) might be considered a race by some. However, you are actually your own people, your own tribe with your own language, not the 'indian' language and not Hindi (the main real Indian language). You are normal, like Maori, Maori means normal. Though most Maori identify as their tribe or iwi, not simply as Maori. You are normal, the Europeans and others are not-normal when compared to you in your land. American Indians are logically Indian people in America, not the indigenous tribes of America. American racism and colonialism has got you twisted to the point you hate it when people would prefer to call you a name which states your bloodright to the land compared with others. Please think about it. Are you 'Indian"? Or are you your own tribe, within the larger group or indigenous American peoples with it's own culture and language, which is rooted deeply in the land? Do your peoples oral history not go back before the coming of the Europeans? Do your peoples not know of plants and animals and their uses that Europeans do not know? If so I think that makes you indigenous, and America, and more specifically your iwi whenua (tribal land), is yours!

It's weird you've had such poor luck with food in that country. I live in South Florida and there are many Peruvian restaurants here and they are virtually all incredible.
