Such great tips and so varied!! I like your statement that if someone did all of them they would save a ton. I am 65 and have been cooking meals since my Mother passed away when I was 14. I have always prepped lunches, cooked breakfast and dinners, baked, gardened and canned. I had it down to a science so I only pre-prepped meals and cooked dinners about 3 times a week. I even went back to school and became a hospital dietitian when I was in my 40's and started helping strangers with their meals! One evening my husband of 47 years said "I wonder how many thousands of dollars we have saved by not eating out, maybe hundreds of thousands. I'm a lucky man." We do eat out for social reasons or traveling, but that's enough for us. I think it's no coincidence that at our age we each only take very few meds which saves money.
On the subject of training schools, don't forget dentists! I don't have dental coverage but I get my teeth cleaned twice a year for free at a local community college that trains dental hygienists. Ir takes longer than a usual appointment as they're students, but it's worth it for the savings over paying out of pocket. Saves me hundreds each year!
Dear BG, even being 65 years old and being from Portugal, UE, i loved your tips for saving money. And i'm doing all of them for years. Thanks for your job, it's great. Xo, Vera.
I find meal planning an excellent way to keep the grocery budget and pantry in check! I also LOVE making meals in the crock pot and having frozen meals stored away for the hectic days!
To add on to #30-keep a running grocery list.... These smart speakers can keep the list for you. "Hey Google add XXX to the shopping list" and the list is always on your phone!
Love your videos! For at least the past 3 years I have been writing down everything I spend daily! It is such a game changer when you actually see where your money is going. I am able to cut things out that I physically see aren't necessary. I amazed my partner recently, we were shopping for an Air Fryer, I found the one that I wanted, but it was the floor model and the only one left. I checked it out and made sure it was in great condition, I then talked to the manager about a discount, he gave us a 33% discount. I have learned not to be in a hurry when shopping and to really ask myself is it a need or a want.
It’s my bathroom cleaner, too. I use it in my toilet and combine it with white vinegar to clean the tub and shower! I think I save by simply not buying several other cleaners.
Yes but using Dawn you are still saving because think about how much more of the other dish soaps you would use trying to get the same results, so the not as good costs you more in the long run! I am with you Dawn is the Best! Stanley and Donna
My tip today- explore your local Dollar Tree for cleaning supplies. Some of their off-brand products are really terrific and I remain surprised by the usefulness and durability of some of the cleaning gadgets there (the washable duster and the dry or damp mop especially- GAME CHANGERS).
Dollar Tree is where it's AT!!! My mind is still blown that you can get a box of band-aids (not Band-Aid band-aids, but also not the dollar tree generic version) for a dollar. Likewise with tape and bottles of spices. :D
Good suggestions!! Recently I started not ordering a drink from fast food restaurants when I’m taking my food home. That combo meal with the fries and the drink is so tempting to order because it does seem like a better deal. But I finally realized I’m still paying less if I simply order the sandwich and fries.
Also tell them you don't need the fork etc. unless you are planning on using them for a picnic. It is just something else to be thrown away. This doesn't save money just the landfill.
I like to use plain white vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser and less detergent than called for and, I hang my laundry outside whenever possible. Towels and sheets get washed on hot but we have an on demand gas hot water heater which makes that less expensive. Love your videos 💚
One trick if you cannot decide whether to get rid of clothes is to hang them up backwards. As you wear it hang it back up the right way. At the end of the season you will easily see what you have never worn because it will still be in the closet hung up backwards and you can get rid of it.
It actually works!!! I did that for three years straight and reduced my clothes to one third, the first year I had 50 items to get rid of and sold 30 of them on Poshmark. The second and third year I also kept a donation box in my closet so when I was getting dressed I would look through the backwards hangers for something to wear and if I pulled something out and thought it was ugly or too big I just dumped it then.
I do a version of this... When I wash and hang my clothes I always hang the items on the far left... Anything to the far right has not been worn and probably needs to be donated.
I use hair conditioner to shave my legs. I never miss a hair, my legs are silky smooth and it takes very little to shave. Always remember to dry your razor, water causes rust which ruins your blade sooner. Even cheaper blades will last twice as long.
"Turn those lights off" I can still hear my mother say these words - I said them to my kids but so far they haven't stuck - It will make my heart leap for joy of I ever hear my kids say these words to my future grandkids - LOL Also my Mom use to tell us that dishwashing soap & laundry soap work just fine in the bath tub & they don't leave a ring - she was right!
October -May I keep my thermostat set for 68 degrees daytime I actually like a big pile of blankets when I sleep on a cold night. I don't let the temperature drop below 55 for my houseplants sake. May 1st I turn the furnace off completely. It rarely gets above 80 degrees here so even though I could turn on my AC I never do. MY TIP: Use a prepaid cell phone. $150 of minutes lasts me a whole year if I'm careful.
I shifted my love of “retail therapy” into “buying“ new investments. I am very careful where I invest my money and still get the rush of having spent money on something special. It also fuels my interest to learn about different investment types.
You mentioned oil changes every 3 months. Read the owner’s manual because most cars don’t require oil changes until after 5,000 to 7,500 miles. The 3,000 mile interval was created by quick lube places so they could get customers.
That's true, but also take into account the type of driving you do. If it's mostly stop and go rush hour driving it might be worth it to change earlier.

Infinity soap refills- 1 3/4 cups water, 1/4 cup soap. You’ll need a foaming soap pump, but your full strength soap lasts forever. I used to go through 2 bottles of body wash a month. Now I go through 1 about every other month.
😂😂I immediately reached up and pulled the light chain. I leave them on too, I need to work on it. I won't buy generic laundry soap(still don't buy top brands though) or dish soap. Every time I give them another try, I regret it. I like to get decent inexpensive shampoo/conditioner too. Tryed the $1 store for 6 months and didn't like the way my hair was. Other than that, I'm generic all the way too.💜
I keep our heat at 60F (Southeast New England). Since we have a Municipal Lighting Plant in town, our electricity is lower that neighboring communities. Because of that we run space heaters a bit only as needed in the room we are in. Mostly we use layers of clothes and blankets! My best purchase was 2 pair of sneakers/trainers on clearance. I have hard-to-fit small, wide feet, and when I found some on sale for $10, I bought 2 pair! I wear my shoes until they fall apart, so these lasted quite a while!
Aldi has a great generic, if you have one around. We always buy Hellman's mayo. Everything else is gross to us! We used to be Heinze ketchup snobs until we found the Aldi generic which is just as good for half the price.
@@maximalismrehab6030 They have a generous return policy for their house brand items too, so if it doesn't work for you, you haven't wasted any money. Good luck!

also, if u choose to try going zero (low) waste u can clean almost everything with baking soda and vinegar, u can use bars of soap, shampoo, conditioner and washing-up liquid, rather than (plastic) bottles - they are lighter to transport, last way longer, no wasted product, less trash and less toxic ingredients .. i have noticed my shopping bags are way lighter and 2 bars of dish soap last me a year !

Use pool noodles for drafty doors.its way cheaper than twin draft guard, and is literally the same thing. Also, use old blankets or blackout curtains on drafty windows,or windows that get a lot of sunlight, open early morning, close around 10 am or so.keeps your place comfortable.
Another way to keep drafts out is cut to fit the size of bubble wrap! Place it flat side on the glass, you still get light in and you may have to lightly wet your window glass to get the bubble wrap to stick but you will instantly feel the difference in the drafts it blocked! Most wal mart, drugstores and discount stores sell rolls of bubblewrap!

French's mustard and Hunts ketchup. My dad used to say, "We're not heating the great outdoors!" We have an appliance outlet here. It also has a scratch and dent section. Heaven! Historically, Ally has not been very good. There are other banks that do better...or did. Been there, done that for everything you mentioned. Plus, I pay mortgage bi-weekly to pay one extra payment a year, or go without having to make a payment one month a year. I've also caught and saved the water that goes down the drain while waiting for water to heat up, and using it to water indoor plants and outdoor gardens. I dilute shampoos, hand soaps, dish detergent...all cleansers by 50% water and then use half the recommended amount on top of that. If that works OK to get something clean, I reduce the amount by half again. I keep doing that till I see exactly what amount works and don't use more than that. I keep windows open a long time in the day before turning on AC. For heat, I keep adding layers until my nose is too cold...then I turn the heat on. I can't take a cold nose. I keep cars until they absolutely bite the dust....or the next repair will cost more than the value of the car. I turn the water off while I'm brushing teeth, washing hands, face, glasses, hand washing and rinsing dishes, washing the car, patio furniture, etc. Sometimes I remember to turn the water off while I'm washing myself in the shower! Etc. Have always loved your channel and listening to you! ❤
Agreed with name brand peanut butter but my brand is Laura scudder. Also rain barrels. For the price of 1-middle-of-the-hot-Texas-summer-water bill, you can collect enough water during each rain to help you water plants everyday without turning on the hose.
For the online glasses where do you do the eye exam? I need new glasses but I can’t get my eye exam prescription from my previous optical department because it has been over 12 months...
Thanks Sarah 👍 Hey Maggie 😊 Baxters beetroot is one of the few non generic for me, cooked & pickled in a jar, that I eat most days! Then I use the empty jars as food containers! Price per unit is a good one I do. Pump bottle in the shower 😂 agree. My addition would be to do an audit of items to assess current needs for the purpose of using less and not replacing unnecessarily.
1:49: Agree. I had a private tour of a company that makes a staple food. Their same production line was used to create the “Great Value” branded product and the premium name brand many would recognize.
Great tips! I don't know about other countries, but I know when I was in France a few years ago, if you ask for "un carafe d'eau" (a pitcher of water for the table), they are legally required to give you one, and it's free. No more paying 3 euros for a glass of mineral water for me! :)
We only buy Oreos, but only on sale. Also, if there is a coupon that makes a name brand less expensive than generic, I will use that. I've made reusable cloths for my Swiffer from old towels. We go to a dental school for dental work. Keep up the good work, Sarah! You are doing an awesome job!
Great advice, as always! Thank you!! I can only add (don't know, if you mentioned it in the other video), not to leave the TV on, when you are not watching, always switch off any screens, don't leave them on standby, if you have a balkony or evengarden, dry yiur washing outside, at least in summer. Open your windows in every room in summer very early in the hot months for about 15 minutes and then close them and all the blinds and/or curtains. It keeps the warm air out and the cooler air in and you don't have to switch on the AC or fan on at all or not, until it gets extreme. This might be harder in the states, because your windows are different from ours in Germany, but it is doable.

In the uk 🇬🇧 if you go out to cafe etc tap water is free the can’t charge it’s illegal and can be pulled up on it if refused. Some places (pre Covid) would have a jug of water with small glasses if anyone needed.
I used to be same with Jiff, but then I tried Great Value & I swear to you it might actually be better. It has such a strong peanut taste. I don’t like the sweet tasting peanut butters
I like Glasses USA. Way cheaper than Lens Crafters. I'm happy with my $35 glasses. The only thing I bought brand name was potato chips when I ate chips. I need to put insulation strips on windows and doors. I'm going to look to see which way my fan is going. Thank you for the tips. They have helped me save money.
A tip I would add is to watch your videos. I got out of buying that awful home warranty. I would never have known how poor their customer service was without that video and then looking around on social media. These tips aren’t just about saving money, they’re also about maintaining well being.
When doing laundry, I like hanging my clothes to dry. I got one of the laundry racks that are in the price point $10-$50 new, but they last forever and save so much money and electricity when drying my clothes at my apartment. I think I got mine at IKEA for $15.
I used to be incredibly loyal to a store brand of ketchup. I think it tasted less sugary than Heinz (at least that's how I felt back then). Now the best brand for me is the best deal. Certainly some brands are better than others, but usually the generic stuff is good. I can't really think of anything I'd fork out extra cash for just because.
Since getting older (pre-menopause) I must turn the AC to 71 because if it gets to 73 (and will if set to 72) I get hot and wake up and not be able to go back to sleep. I'm freezing my husband. What I'm saying is we relate to you and Jacob in that way. I stock up on hamburger when it's on sale and cook it up and freeze it too. I currently have 22 packets of hamburger and didn't spend more than $1.99 per pound for it.
Cancel Directv and go with a TV antenna. We went from $140 per month to $20 per month for Netflix. All the antenna channels are free. We get tons of channels and now our TV doesn’t go out when it storms. Most shows on specialty networks you can find free online
One more tip. Stretch a recipe to make it into two meals instead of one meal and left overs. Freeze the second meal for next week and take a night off cooking an entire meal.
Only use Liquid Downy Fabric softener, Hellman's Mayo, A1 Steak sauce, Lindsey olives, Sara Lee wheat bread. I will buy whatever name brand laundry detergent, shampoo I can get a deal on.
Got to have good brand name coffee and Teddy natural peanut butter. Other than that, mostly generic all the way. Love your glasses, you look great! Very adorable dog!
Must be brand name on Peanut Butter. And I get Kraft PB from my Canadian family when they come to visit. They drag in the biggest tub you could imagine that lasts me a year. Kraft PB not sold in The States but it’s the best PB you’ve ever tasted.
I buy a lot of generic medications, food, baggies (trying to stock up on the reusable zip lock bags. They will save money and are better for the environment.), but I don’t buy generic dish soap (Dawn), laundry soap (All Free and clear), jelly (Smucker’s natural Strawberry Fruit Spread, Blackberry, or Cherry).
My co-worker and I trade leftovers for lunch. We started during the pandemic, because we were trying for variety when we couldn't shop. Other co-workers have found out about it, and have asked to JOIN US. We thought that we'd be teased, but that hasn't been the case AT ALL.
Check out your local dental hygiene school clinic. You can get cleanings, sealants, x-rays and fluoride treatments at a greatly reduced cost. If you have a dental school nearby, you can get further treatment (fillings, root canals, etc). Also, brush and floss; care for your teeth so you will reduce the need for extensive dental restoration. :D
Okay, this may be w dumb question but washing napkins and towels used water and soap. Is it still cheaper than buying paper towels? Again, dumb question, but I'm really curious. Water where I live is expensive! Haha
Hi Shannon, dish towels and napkins take up essentially 0 space in the laundry. even if you had to do a load every month, i believe it would still cost less! I do buy all my napkins at like garage sales for 10-50 cents. Dish towels cost a dollar or less and i often find them at the dollar tree/ spot.
I knew you would table the perfect person to ask! Thank you so much! I'll start looking at garage sales for napkins too! Thank you for replying! It's appreciated!
Last time we bought tires we ended up with a brand that did not get anywhere near the mileage they were suppose to. When we bought tires the next time they prorated the tires based on the mileage. It saved hundreds of dollars on the new tires and we did not buy the same brand.
Check if your electric company gives away led bulbs, ours will give you 10 standard bulbs free and they sell the specialty sizes for like $1 a piece, because more customers having led bulbs saves them money too. Only $1 of our monthly electric bill goes to lights now, so I no longer care when people forget to turn off the lights.

For the price of 1-middle-of-the-hot-Texas-summer-water bill, you can collect enough water during each rain to help you water plants everyday without turning on the hose.
thats awesome!
For the online glasses where do you do the eye exam? I need new glasses but I can’t get my eye exam prescription from my previous optical department because it has been over 12 months...
Generic often is the same.
We are brand loyal to tide, dawn, now folgers, and meow mix.aside from those, generic is the same thing
Oh yeah, we don't switch up the pet food. It can cause tummy trouble for some pets (it definitely did for ours).
Love your dog!
Lol it made me giggle when you said not judging any body. 😆
Must have Campbell soup!! The generics cant even compare. Especially tomato soup!! Great video!
great tip!
Same in England.
Yes, I buy hidden MSG ranch dressing too! (That's what my hubby calls it. Lol.)
Love these videos!
Qtip.... not putting something generic in my ear.... had cotton fall off generic stick and than in was not easy to get it out LOL
Miracle Whip!
This might be harder in the states, because your windows are different from ours in Germany, but it is doable.
yaaaaasssss!!!! keep em coming Sarah! : )
Dawn dish soap
Buy coffee when on.sale.i got 2 cans of folgers black silk coffee on sale,$5 each.no more maxwell house.hubby hates the smell.
If you do not have in unit laundry, use a local laundromat.
Check prices first.some are more expensive than others.scope out how well kept it is,too.
Use the resources availible in your area, such as free book bins, food pantries,if needed, clothing closets,be sure to wash everything.
Learn basic diy.sewing,vehicle maintenance
Home repair.check first to see if it is allowed.many landlords stipulate tenants are not allowed to do any repairs.
Seal drafts, block sunlight if it gets really hot,or cold.this will lower utility costs.
Unplug, turn off anything not in use.not stove, fridge, those things.
Get energy saving appliances,led lights.
Try finding appliances with fewer computerized parts,as these tend to malfunction more frequently.
Be organized.know what you have, how much you have, see what actually is used
In the uk 🇬🇧 if you go out to cafe etc tap water is free the can’t charge it’s illegal and can be pulled up on it if refused.
Great tips! Your hair looks great longer like that; very flattering
I love your videos!! You are always happy & love your glasses!! I will use that advise!! 😘😍🥰
A tip I would add is to watch your videos. I got out of buying that awful home warranty. I would never have known how poor their customer service was without that video and then looking around on social media. These tips aren’t just about saving money, they’re also about maintaining well being.
thanks dorothy!
Loved those ideas! Good idea about walking outside versus walking in the mall because it might entice you to spend!
I loved this. New here. Thankyou for this.
Welcome!
The Aldi ketchup tastes better and is less sugary than Heinz.
Great ideas -thanks!
Ketchup and Mayo MUST be name brand
Good tips and reminders. Thanks.
Hellman’s mayonnaise, Heinz ketchup, Peter Pan peanut butter are the name brands I think I have to have but I always buy when on sale and use coupons!
Charmin Ultra Soft TP, Best Foods/Hellman’s Mayo, Heinz ketchup
What kind of dog is that? So so cute!
Mini Aussie!
Literally just got out of bed to switch my fan position!! 😂
whoooo!
Prego. No generic equal!
Have to have kraft mac and cheese, and Campbells New England Clam Chowder lol! Otherwise it's pretty much generic all the way!
OREOS!!!!
Kerry Gold butter and Mexican Coke.
Kerry gold is amazing
I get Kerry Gold for my toast and store brand for cooking and baking. It's so good.
Never tried Mexican Coke but I heard good things about it.
Must be brand name on Peanut Butter. And I get Kraft PB from my Canadian family when they come to visit. They drag in the biggest tub you could imagine that lasts me a year. Kraft PB not sold in The States but it’s the best PB you’ve ever tasted.
well now i wanna try it! when i go to canada its on the list!
I was surprised to hear someone recommend Jif over Kraft... didn't realize Kraft PB isn't sold in the US!
Regular car maintenance is so worth it. I think of what Scotty Kilmer always says, oil is cheap your engine is expensive.
try aldi tuscan ranch its really good and cheap
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
I bring a sugar free drink mix with me to a restaurant for my water.
That’s a great idea! 😊
Same here. I cant drink sugary drinks and most water has a chemical smell that i cant stand.
A friend loved ranch. She always brought ranch dressing from home to the restaurant for her salad.
Heinz ketchup and tide laundry soap.
Best Foods Mayo - all the way!!!
Thanks for the tip. But I really hate LED light. It's too bright and not healthy for humans and animals.
I just cannot exterminate food waste habits, wait for your food prep and save video!
I will only buy Florida's Natural orange juice!!
My favourite, the best orangejuice ever 😛
Do not buy generic sunblock lol I learned that the hard way this weekend ekkk
Dressing and local cheese I am brand specific. Also I try to buy free range everything.
What breed of dog were u holding?😍😍
mags is a mini aussie :-)
