Whenever I try to imagine me fighting during WWII, it scares the hell out of me. I wasn’t afraid of dying, I was afraid to witness the slaughter of young men, along with their lost futures. I am now a 70 year old veteran who served during the Vietnam War. To all veterans, thank you for your service.
Growing up, I didn't have any interest in the Pacific Theater. All my interest was in the ETO. I discovered this series, about two years ago, through videos like yours. Ever since, my heart has ached for all of the men and women who served in the PTO. Pop told me that my grandmother hated the Japanese, because of the war. I can now see why. I do not hate the Japanese. In fact, I am quite fond of them (as you might tell by seeing my ID). But I have no reservations, concerning the need to defeat the Japanese, in WWII. Thank you God, for the Greatest Generation, that you used to keep the USA American.
This has held up so well, nine years later. While your work obviously displays technical skill, it’s the artistic sensibility that shines through every piece. That’s a god-given gift, and thank you for sharing it with the world.
My Great Uncle was a captain in the war and was a beach master on Omaha. He went in before the first wave in the attack. He directed the landing on that beach and helped soldiers out of the boats. He was one of the first American soldiers to land in France that day. He also helped land General Patton in the invasion of Sicily at Salerno. He also served in North Africa. On Omaha, he was standing under heavy German fire. Somehow he made it out alive that day. He later served in the Korean War. He served in the Army in WW2, the Coast Guard in Korea, and then served in the Marine Corps, and Navy. He went to VMI and graduated at age 22 and was 35 in 44. After the war, he became a sheriff. He never spoke much about his wartime experiences and I would do anything to go back and meet him before his passing. Rest in Peace Captain F Perry Williams and the rest of the soldiers who sacrificed everything as boys and served in the war.
