The $16,000,000 Motorcycle

- In 2012, 400 Bitcoin was worth $2000, the same as this 2000 Suzuki DRZ 400. Now in 2022, that Bitcoin is worth $16,000,000! So if you could go back in time, would you take the money or the bike? I know, I know... it's a bit of a dumb question. Easily the money, right? But how to we quantify happiness, satisfaction, memories, or friendships? Could this old dual sport really be worth $16,000,000? I explain why my answer might actually be yes!
Join me in the Dominican Republic for the first ever International eveRide SUPER RALLY!
www.everideadv.com/shop
See the Dominican Republic Videos here:
• 3 (SHAMELESS) Reasons ...
• THIS is Why I Started ...
Each rally has a max of just 8 riders, and we'll spend 8 days, 7 nights on the North Coast of the gorgeous Dominican Republic at the beautiful SeaWinds resort! We've reserved an amazing 3 bed 3 bath penthouse right on the beach!
We will provide all your food at the best local restaurants; enjoy fresh seafood, amazing steaks, and fantastic international cuisine, served fresh on the beachside!
We'll handle the motorcycle rental, transportation to and from the Puerto Plata airport, and local transportation around town.
Expect at least three days of incredible guided riding to colorful villages, vacant white sand beaches, tight flowy jungles, and mountain passes. On the other days, you can ride, swim, explore, hike, or just relax at the beach!
I'll be making a documentary on the eveRide channel of our adventures, and filming all I can!
If an international dual sport motorcycle adventure is on your bucket list but you'd also like a guide so you don't miss out on the best riding, this is your opportunity!
How difficult will the riding be? Expect 1s, 2s, and the occasional 3 on the FLOW TEST trail difficulty rating scale. Find my video about FLOW TEST at
• Know the TRUE Difficul...
I'd love to have you join me! We have to close reservations Sunday, March 6th 2022 at 11:59 pm MST so we can reserve our rentals with plenty of time.

Well said. I took forever to finish college and start a career, but instead spent most of my 20’s traveling and having dual sport / dirt bike adventures. Don’t regret any of it.
I did the opposite, got several degrees and spent most of my 20s at school learning nothing at all and ended up not using any of it either. Now it's all about adventures and less about work and money. Have a great weekend Anthony!
I did almost the same. Did my education and homeowner life in my 20's. Then my entire 30's I sold everything and moved to SoCal/AZ completely on my own. I had so many dirt bikes, baggers, ADV bikes all over the desert and mnts. Moved back to the Midwest during the great panic of 2020. Came back with no money, but feels like I lived 3 lifetimes with the amount of stuff I did while I was physically prime and in the locations to. People look at me so differently now, I can see it in their eyes they wished they did that with their life. It wasnt intelligence, it was just guts to just get out there and go.
I worked hard. Played hard. Didnt finish college, but found myself in a great career, and I can thank motorcycles for everything. I'm a travelling technician and travel the states on an Africa Twin getting paid for it. I wouldn't change a thing.
I dragged ass through school and uni and spent my days riding. The friends and skills i learned from riding. Saving for bikes, fixing bikes etc has opened more doors for me and improved the quality of my life more than my degree has. I use my problem solving ability learned from navigation and restoring bikes etc all day every day.
@@driftke70 they always say to do something that makes you happy in life, motorcycles did it for me as well, ride on brothers and sisters, ride on 👍🇺🇸
You are so right! I retired in 2020, at 67, spent about 3% of my small business buy out, and bought an Africa Twin, my biggest bike by far, and my first bike since I was a very young man. These last two years have been possibly the best of my life, riding nearly every day in all kinds of weather. I now also own a '21 CRF 300L, for the more playful days. If I ride off into sunset tomorrow, I go happily.
I saw a video from a financial type that really hit me. Two guys talking about taking a vacation. One guy makes 30$ an hour and is pushing for going. The other guy makes 300$ an hour but says he cant afford to go. His reasoning was his time was worth too much to go on vacation because he would miss those hours of pay. I realized that the 30$ an hour guy probably has a more fulfilling life because he is not a slave to his income
At that point its just greed. The guy making 300/hr will definitely have many times more than the guy making 30/hr. Its just called stingy. I been around people that have more money than me and when it comes to pitching in or doing something they complain about not having money. I always been the guy with the least money but im the one always pitching in more. I guess thats why they got more money. I have since lost those type of people. More money equals more greed. I started from the bottom so i can relate to someone that's going through a struggle.
@@martinf1961 nope. Many people have jobs/gigs constructed the way that they can't don't work few hours when they want. One week off can destroy years of hard work. It's very common where people build themselves a golden cage and they don't know how to get out.
in currently 27 years old and have been working my life away since im 16. currently selling off all my stuff to pursue my dreams of riding around America. starting off with the TAT trail then the BDR routes. hopefully if funds are sufficient i want to visit/explore every national park in America consecutively. i came to a point where i realized i didn’t want to wait until i retire to do this trip. this platform is whats pushed me to this point. no kids/no mortgage/no tie downs. just me my bike and the open road baby! departure is may 10th! happy trails everyone !
About 12 years ago I traded my carrier as a well paid tool maker in to become a high-school shop teacher. I liked the job as a teacher but never LOVED it. 9 years ago I started helping a friend with his growing cabinet shop during summer break. After a couple of years of work nights and summers helping him out I realized I LOVED that job and only liked teaching. I have spent the last 6 years explaining to people that I quit a well paying teaching job with a ton of vacation to take a job with longer hours, less pay and less vacation for happiness and it was the greatest choice! Choose happiness over wealth!
Money don't buy happiness , but sure does make life easier
A lack of money sucks, but having piles of it sure does not make one happy. While it can be easier to distract oneself, your happiness is up to you. At times I've had no money, at times I've had (on paper) way too much money and what I learned was there is a point of wealth that evens out.
3 kids, single income, wife rides, own my shop as a mechanic, own a house thats to small, 2x 09 klx250s, 13 drz, 00 xr650r, 1980 yamaha xc250, 95 klx650c, none are real nice all run and ride. Im rich in some ways!
Never seen a U-haul truck behind a Hearse!!!
Having just turned 50 last year, I've started taking more time to enjoy the fruits of my hard labor. Buying a new bike, and then another. Taking a trip to ride them, and then another. After my 50th I promised myself I'd start hitting those bucket list rides. Baja, Big Bend, and many, many more to come. No BS, I have been saying the same thing latey- I doubt I will be on my death bed wishing for another OT shift. But ANOTHER ride down to Baja? Probably. Well said, amigo. Onwward.
Do it......I turned 60 and decided to finally retire early. I had plans of retiring early around 50 yrs. I so wish that I had done that back then and didnt wait til I was 60 yrs. Big Big difference between 50 and 60 let me tell you. My body is a lot more worn out at 60 than at 50 yrs, I felt that I could do most anything at 50 but not at 60. Now I just have to work on that stress and anxiety that I acquired all my adult life.....
Already started, dude. Baja was last year, Peru this summer. Iceland after that, and so on.
@@evopwrmods my knees, back and shoulders are already shot at 18. traded my yz and kdx for v8 lol
Me to past me:
Do whatever you want, but put like, a few hundred bucks into bitcoin.
Well said. Money can buy the medium to make memories sometimes, but it can't make the memories. Only people can.
"not to buy things but to do things.." Well said and I support DOING. Live your life. Money won't mean a thing when you die.
The lucky people are the 20-something year old tech millionaires who sold an app... if they hung up their working boots and just started enjoying life. $20mill is $1000 a day for 60 years. Perfect.
Yeah but I could probably spend all that money on a garage and lots of bikes 😂
Or they end up becoming part of the super wealthy elite, like the Davos crowd. Then they spend their time telling the rest of us how to live, while making plans to force us into said lifestyles.
My dad always said "The more you make the more you spend"
And let's not forget Biggies advice... "More money, more problems"
This is probably one your best videos. Hits at the heart of life...
Well said. I'm old, still working, in the $90,000 bracket but not happy. Have some work friends but no close friends. Shitty marriage but great dogs. But I do have a BMW dual sport, a TW200 and a WR250F. Looking forward to Spring and riding weather, probably alone but better than nothing. Looking forward to the next life.
You’re not alone bro, many of us out there and meeting each other on trails
Actually…similar types!
This is the kind of motivational video I needed to hear. Not the financial gurus yelling get off your ass and go get it. I just quit my job of 5 years due to stress. You have no idea what a gem of a person you are for making this video. Every point you touched on echoed through my heart and my ethos for a healthy life. Thank you.
Take a group of people and tell them to write down how much money it would take to make them happy. You would get people writing down an amount that others in the group make and those people would write down an even higher number. No amount of money will bring the peace that you’re lookin for. True peace comes from knowing you’re saved by grace through faith.
Loved the message...nothing could replace the fun and adventure I get from my 22 Honda 450cc 4t, and my 19 TM Racing 300cc 2t!! Thanks for reminding me how special they really are - even though I spend time with my girls daily!!! :)
Awesome perspective and insight man! Really enjoyed this discussion.
100% agree! Man, I miss these MOTOvational eveRide videos, but somehow they always seem to pop up at the right time. Hope all is going well!
Your videos are so motivating and uplifting. Thank you.
This is so well made Tyler, and the message of this video hits home.
Your perspective is correct - I can tell you that. I'd rather be riding my MIGHTY SUZUKI DR 650 than being stressed out, paranoid, and on and on - and actually enjoying life. Remember too, that digital money could have gone to "ZERO" but you got yourself a Dual Sport Motorcycle - and have had the time of your life !!!!
Always watch - and love your work. Another great job & perspective !!!
Cheers !!!
Beautiful shots. I always thought riding a dual sport was something I’d never be able to do… just bought a xt225 after moving to the Sonoran Desert and I’ve been riding it as much as I possibly can. Nothing else makes me feel so alive. Best decision ever. So much enjoyment for a couple grand
I have a DRZ 400 in my garage , i love it, i'll still pick the 16 millions.
I was talking to a very wealthy old man when I was on my early 20s. I said: I wish I had your money , He said: I would give all my money to have your age...
I had a friend's son ask me if I could go back in time, what would I change. The boy thought I'd say I'd date his mom, and... no. The teenagers that were she and I despised each other. Only as adults did we find common ground. Not even enough to make something more of that common ground.
Instead I had a ready answer: I'd tell my seven-year-old self not to give up on guitar. There was a 12 year hiatus of traumatic years where this silly little noisebox could have been a friend I could turn to. Motorcycles are good and grand, but I've never lived in a 12 month riding season. So that appealing utility is a trifle less useful to me, especially since I have a talent for this sort of thing now.
The boy, all of ten, rather entitled, year-old, kept pushing. Why not his mom? Why couldn't I be his dad? What was wrong with his mother when she was a callow youth? "She broke many braver hearts than mine, son. She's still breaking them. Plus, she turned me down flat. I have to respect that."
The sad thing is, the woman equates money and happiness. I equate money and utility. Happiness...? I'll be honest: I'm not a happy man these days. Music sets aside my burdens for a time, but it's never lifted them entirely. Motorcycles set my burdens aside for a time, but inevitably the life I lead brings me back to my house that isn't a home, my career that isn't a passion, the many empty seats at the table each night, and the women who haunt my shattered hopes. And I call this just fine. I can function this way. Give me a tune to play and a place over yonder, and I will be fine.
@Johnny Rebellion The Lord and I are in good standing.
Many of us men live in a sort of quiet desperation … got ourselves into our lives by choices and miscalculation… some bad luck or lack of perception. Either way, keep your chin up and plow on.
I also play music and ride bikes. My situation is entirely different than yours but has its days. Take pleasure in what you can, when you can and let it soak way in.
Great as always! Much love
We think that we need money to “bless our family” and others, but we forget that our being is a blessing. Being yourself around others and spreading positivity is a blessing. You don’t need money for that.
Feels like a return to roots, love the old footage (and the new) Love the philosophical bent if it. Thanks!
wow. this is a truly touching and inspirational video. So much truth here, and rings so true to me because I just happen to still own a 2003 Suzuki DRZ400 that I bought brand new in 2003, with some of the first extra cash I made just out of colleg. I've had and continue to have countless adventures on that bike and wouldn't trade it or those times for the world. Well done.
Classic Everide, Tyler. These are the videos that made me start following you. A little philosophy, a little joy, a lot of humility, and fantastic storytelling from a master narrator (these are the moments Elizabeth pipes in with "I love his voice!"). Damned good perspective as well. I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to retire at 48, as modest as that retirement may be--but I do wonder at times if my life might have been richer if I had spent a little more time on me earlier in my workaholic life. Take the bike.
Epic commentary as always. Prepping for the TAT next summer. Looking forward to seeing Utah as part of it.
I hope you do the dominican ride next year ive been off bikes for about 12 years due to living and vehicle situation but i bought a bike and am getting it ready now i need to get back into shape for the ride!
Great message man, thanks for sharing 😎👍
Great message!
I’ve been having my own epiphany as well. What a great video! This was perfectly timed for me to hear. I’ve been giving everyone the “on your deathbed” and “most valuable thing is time” speech lately. I laughed when you said it. Truth is so many of us have had our own awakening. So great to see and hear. Anyway, trip sounds great but can’t this year but I will be seeing what you do next.
Thanks. Needed to hear a new perspective
Have been watching your channel since Mr. Duhfactor and Rojoneck absconded with that DRZ to rebuild it into the Black Widow. You always inspire me with your perspective, humility and genuine love for others and the DS community. Ride on!
Awesome perspective!
👍 great perspective, thanks for spreading this attitude.
Thanks for this.
Adventures and Memories, with friends family, or even alone. Can’t buy them they’re priceless. Bravo Tyler!!
I’m 44 years old. I own a business that requires 90% of my attention at all waking hours for 7 months a year. It allows me to spend the other 5 months a year doing what ever the hell I please within reason. I spend it riding motorcycles, playing music and sim racing mostly. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. And it’s all about the experiences.
my hats off // 53 worked 60-70++ hr a week my whole adult life , always rode/ride dual sport/Adv on Sundays , Envious of those that had and or have the courage to just check out and do that , i dream of it
Everide, you are wise beyond your helmet. At 50, I agree with and appreciate your words of wisdom. Let your story be your legacy, not your possessions. Ride on!!
your the best eveRide! insightful
Well… money comes and goes. It’s great to have and helps in so many ways. When you have “enough” use it to do the things you love doing.
Experiences, friends, stories and the knowledge you gain in the thing you love can’t be taken away and stay with you.
Great video and lesson we could all learn a little more from.
Hands down the most wholesome video. Well said my friend.
Time is our most previous resource! Thanks for the video!
"Moto therapy", and friends.
That's good advice dude.
Hi your geography videos were very helpful, especially the ones which explained central American countries, will you make more?
Great intelligent discourse, I'm very similar. No price on freedom and adventure and next to impossible to find it slaving away for more $$$! But OMG great footage for the WHOLE video too! Wow!
do you have a link to the article mentioned?
Fantastic video.
Glad to hear other people thinking the same as I do. Have fun and ride safe!
How come your discount code doesn't work for Rocky Mountain ATV MC?
I get ya brother , well said and put together. Cheers from the UK 🇬🇧
As I continue to get older, the do things are much more important than the buy things. My self today to my young self....get out and go,do create life experience so you can enjoy them again when the limitations of your senior years sneaks up on you. Thanks for sharing a perspective worthy of deep thoughts!
I’m not so sure the dollar amounts are causative in creating happiness. I think it’s more likely that some folks are more easily satisfied and if they’re doing better than average they’re the happiest among us. The more financially successful are likely cursed with personalities that won’t allow them to stop trying to improve their position.
Excellent!
Gave you a like cause you said you'd pick a bike over 16 million in electronic assets . You have my respect.
All my friends from outside the US make fun of me / Americans for not taking enough vacations. They are right. Enjoy life fellas. 🤙🏼
Money doesn’t buy happiness; but it can buy you the bike to achieve some Moto Therapy!!
Nice truth. Thanks 🤙🙏❤️
You don't have to have a lot of money or a lot things to be successful, you just have to be happy to be successful. If you die happy then you lived a successful life. Modern age people are raised to just worry about getting a good job and living a wealthy life that they forget to live a happy life. Do what makes you happy and live your life with happiness
agree, I have two DR 400's a 2000 and a 2021, the old one never hurt me but the new one did, guess what, tires, got a new set now
I'd take the Suzuki (w/all the experience, fun, friends, etc.) That's why I retired early, and LIVING. (Also why I reserved a rally in February! Can't wait!)
Well said Tyler...another real video...but i would still take the 16million...then maybe regret it
Yep! Nailed it, go for the experiences!
Couldn't agree more. I only got 4500km on my beta but more then 200 hours of riding. Just wish I could do it more
Well said, money cant buy everything. Keep up the fun videos my friend.
Dale
Thanks Tyler!
Long time no watch buddy and great video as always! I've recently started playing with crypto as well pretty interesting stuff.. motorcycles for the win! Moneys good but memories are better!
Keep spreading the love!
Coulda, shoulda, woulda. I regret nothing. My decisions are based on what makes me happy. I have an 18-year-old SUV and a 36-year-old dual sport (1986 Honda XL600R). Sure, I would love to have 16 million dollars. But does that mean I'd have had to sit home for the last 10 years? The only change I wish is I'd bought a house before the Utah market went absolutely insane.
Hello fellow 86 XL600R owner ! I feel like there aren't too many of us :)
@Thomas Gleeson nope. And with that color was only for one year its even more Fun to hang on to. The 87 just didn't look as cool ditching all the "gold". We've got 3 in the family.
Years ago I heard someone say rich people are boring....I never really knew what that meant. I'm glad I heard it cuz I now know
This video has a lot of helpful direction in it for young men. 👍
Man I cant go back to riding 4 strokes 😂
Right on! You can't take it with you, and you can only ride for so long. Keep riding and it will keep you happy too.
If you had the 16 million you could buy 2000 people a suzuki and spread the joy of motorcycle riding even further.
Id tell my self to b my BTC like you said....when they were 4 for a penny. Still sitting on a pile of Crypto. FYI, I now have 50,000 miles on my 2011. Literally zero issues. Knock on wood. But yes, buy a ton of DRZ's too. Because now everyone wants a mint for them...some want more than a brand new one. Prices are rediclously high for asking prices. Still best money I spent was on 2012, on my 2011 DRZ400S. 50,000 miles later, zero regrets and still smiling. And gotta say, its partly your fault. As you were my first ever that i subscribed too. Keep it up buddy
The health and happiness of my daughter is all I want , oh and for me to carry on having adventures on my gs. I have had many great adventures on an old xl650 transalp going to Europe on it and generally just hooning about.
True wealth is not giving an f what any one thinks.
I make around 60k and i can admit i live comfortably with that income. Its not the best but also not the worst. I make enough money where i can entertain myself and do my favorite activities during my time off.
I’m glad I realized this earlier in life
Let's face facts here. That $2,000 Suzuki (and the bikes that followed) probably saved your life several times over! And how inspirational have you been to scores of followers and gentletubers probably saving scores more lives/relationships. NOBODY can put a price on that! So forget about the what ifs and keep up the great work and know we appreciate all you've done and all you've been through over the sweet ride this last 10 years have been! Thanks for making the right investment!
Amen!
It’s not how much money you have to make, it’s how little you can get away with spending and still find happiness. When you’re done riding motorcycles, check out kite surfing.
Hay mate Paul from Aus , I just brought another bike ( number 5 ) just one ☝️ was a bike that kind off interested me - nothing special about it except the specs
1. 6 speed
2. 126kg wet
3. Low seat height
4. Disc brakes front and rear
5. Ok travel
6. 65 MPG
7. Road legal - has trip 1,2 Speedo and clock
8. Great 👍 reliability
9. Great 👍 price second hand 🤚
10 . Simple air cooled 4 stroke engine
11. Easy maintenance of EVERYTHING
OK WHAT IS IT ! It’s a Kawasaki Supersherpa ( in Australia they still import it as a farm bike the Stockman) So new parts bot an issue
12. You need to do a BUDGET review on this bike ( people have ridden them around the world 🌎)
It’s also good for females and short people.
Money can't buy happiness but you can rent it.
I googled “best dirtbike riding in utah” and this video came up….
…..not complaining
Dang, this is crazy to think about. $2000 of bitcoin in 2012 is 16mil now. I bought my first motorcycle in 2013 for 1600 dollars. If I knew what I know now… 😅 money doesn’t buy happiness but it helps secure you a good life. My wife and I are on tight incomes and struggling to find a home right now. But at least we have each other, and I have my two motorcycles
Time , life , family is the only thing going to choose . If let money control happiness then then you need a rest for sure
The rich and famous for sure do not experience glory as we ADV riders do! Last I checked you cannot take $16 mil with you!
Yes. Wouldn't give back the past 7 years on my XR650R either... though with just a few million, I could buy up and hoard all the remaining spares!
No matter how much money we have life for me without a bike is very boring
Well that hit the current nail right on the current exact head now, diddnt it
400 bit coin. The wait for that 2k worth of coin to become 10k was remarkably fast. If you could truely back to the future yourself - get 400 coins then selling a few a few months later is best of both worlds.
I might go back and tell myself not to sell my Honda RC30.
In trade I received a 93 NSR Mc21 and a 86 Suzuki RG 500.
Later I did a motor swap and ended up with a NSR 500 street going replica.
Would I trade the fun I had on the 500? Not a chance. The old RC30 is being sold right now in Seattle Washington at SUB for $45k.
I still have the 500. It's in my living room along with 4 other bikes and 4 more in the garage keeping the 71 Mini Cooper S company.
Several inexpensive toys are way more fun and satisfying than another 0 in your bank/savings account. And yep, there's a DRZ400 (SM) in the garage.
👍😁
