Both of my parents are Jamaican. 23&Me gave me 54% Nigerian and 28% Ghanaian, Liberian & Sierra Leonian. Now whether or not that Nigerian part of me is Igbo or Yoruba is left to be determined but I do know of both groups being taken away and brought to Jamaica. On the Ghanaian/Sierra Leone side I’m aware of an Ashanti presence in JA especially within the maroon culture.
The fact you have south African DNA is very good it's rare in people's descended from African descent that means some of your ancestors could be Zulu shona setswana and more amazing
That large area covering most of southern Africa represents the Cameroon, Congo & Bantu Peoples generally. Ancestry has yet to really focus on breaking it down to smaller regions.
I think there's a good chance you have ancestors who were liberated Africans or African Indentured Labourers who arrived after slavery as well due to the very high percentage of African ancestry
@@thejamericanexperience2757 im jamaican too, but african ancestry doesnt test enough markers on the y chromosome to determine ethnicity. They only use 8 STR’s when really it should be 12 to 25 to determine ethnicity. When you get the certificate, it says you share* paternal ancestry with a tribe & not that you descend from whatever tribe they named. What they dont tell you is that you can share genetic ancestry with multiple tribes & theyre just going off of who they have sampled. So technically your results are true, but theyre not percise****
@@KxngAntTae true since the lineage dosen't change. I want to see a white American have a Y chromosome that goes to Africa. Would be pretty interesting

I took ancestry and main is not set up at the bottom like that where it goes to Caribbean
Could you try African Ancestry also..that would be very interesting...
You will likely be of Igbo ancestry judging by that Nigerian percentage.
I got 54% Nigeria but did African Ancestry on my paternal side and traced back to Burkina Faso, Bissa tribe.
