What is nice about Chevy"s paddle shifter, is that unlike other brands Chevy (at least the Malibu i drove) will hold the gear, even if you take it to redline! Others will shift into a higher gear at a predetermined RPM. I like the control these give me and was just one reason why I like the Malibu LT with the 6 banger!
You really cant go wrong with either the Malibu , Fusion, Accord or Camry . Its ultimately comes down to what you prefer in a vehicle and what price you want to pay. Also making sure you do regular maintenance
why the hell couldn't I get paddle shifters on my top of the line LTZ Impala??...it cost more than this Malibu.. so..what gives..also I'd like that rear window sunshade.. wtf
This may have been true in the late 80s early 90s, but not so much now. They all can be kept nice if the maintanence is kept up. I've seen too many Hondas fail for stupid reasons. BTW I am 37, and I've owned domestic and imports.
Yes, the Camry v6 has a 3.5 L V6 engine, outpacing the Malibu 3.6 L, 252 HP engine. However the Malibu 4 cylinder has a 2.4L 169 HP engine, beats camry's 2.4L 158 HP engine. Also the Malibu 4 cylinder gets 22/33 MPG while Camry gets 21/31 MPG. So with v6, Camry wins. With 4cyl, Malibu wins!!!
You said the key word. In the 90s. This isn't the 90s. The mid 80s domestic cars got a bad rep. That is when the foreign market garnered a lead. Not because they were so great, but because US carmakers weren't caring. Things changed in the 90s and now in the 2ks they are back to making decent cars.
I test drove the car and feels like buying it, No doubt the car is very nice. Also I liked all new 2010 Buick models alot.. The buick cars are just amazing
I bought my Element, my first Honda, and found out the suspension design was wearing out the back tires way too soon and some glitch in the computer chip to always show the check engine light that I traded mine for the VW Bug in 2006. The dealer said there wasn't much could be done about the premature wear and tear on the tires. OH and Unions do not have anything to do with assembly and repairs! They negotiate the over priced pay/benefits while the workers pay the Unions to do so!!!
2008 camry v6: 268 horsepower 248 ft-lbs of torque 2008 accord v6: 268 horsepower 248 ft-lbs of torque 2008 sebring v6: 235 horsepower 232 ft-lbs of torque 2008 malibu v6 252 horsepower 251 foot-lbs of torque 2008 fusion v6: 221 horsepower 205 ft-lbs of torque once again the malibu only beats the japanese in torque BARELY
Yeah, they're fuckin up right now and i'm very disappointed in them because they have done well for so long. I believe the problem is new cutting-edge tech they're using instead of the using the conventional cable and spring throttle , they're using drive-by-wire, which the we don't have yet. This is new tech, and i'm sure they'll work out the bugs(not unusual to have bugs in new tech). I do feel bad for those who died as a result of this. There's always honda subaru mazdnissan mitsu suzuki isuz
If you want to talk about recalls, well the foreign car are usually recalled for minor o rcosmetic irregularities where as the big 3 its usally life threatening.I have a 2006 dodge 3500 which needs to be serviced because the steering linkage may seperate while driving. Ford's suv killed many and instead of owning up, they blamed the tires. c'mon man, those same tires were used on many other vehichles without rolling them over. I notice ford quietly redesigned the explorer as if nothing happened.
@battleforwaterloo : Not sure if you're comment about the Accord's size was directed at my earlier comment, but I'm going to reply anyway. I don't give a crap about how the idiots at the EPA might classify the newest Accord; stretching out the nose of the car doesn't make it a large car. The car is only going to be comfortable for 4 adults at best, just like it's always been. The Accord is still smaller than a Lincoln Town Car, a Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger or a Chevy Impala.
@K3vinK at least the dealerships and factories are still open...................how about GM ? sales are up 41% in march and they posted a record profit last year, something GM and the domestics can't do
Fact is, this is about a GM car, not the deathmobiles known as Toyotas. Toyota has been cooking the books, and denying problems for decades. They finally got busted for it. And will now be looked at with more scrutiny. Expect their numbers to match GM and Fords as far as reliability ratings and safety goes. Don't like it, or disagree? Too bad.
I have no intention to buy this car. I'm actually going to buy a Hyundai Genesis (eventually). I'm not jumping for American cars just yet. I'm seeing them improve and I'm keeping an eye on fords/chevys but for the moment I'm sticking with big 3 foreign brands (Hyundai/Toyota/Honda)
I see you're only 18, the same age as one of my daughters. You just started driving and don't know much about cars or their histories, but you'll pay as you learn. I guarantee it buddy. I once loved domestics too and i started working on them before high school. Nobody could tell me anything negative about a GM vehicle, until i bought my first Honda...............well you know the rest
I'll admit that Toyota's quality has been slipping lately (probably due to the new cutting edge they're using, like drive-by-wire) but even so they build better cars than the Big 3. They build and sell more cars world-wide than the Small 3
@mack8ll1 My posts are very concretive, and easily read. If you cannot understand them, I suggest the problem is with you. R.I.F. is a good program to look into. Thanks.
@mack8ll1 If you are talking about the late 80s to mid 90s I agree. Toyota, Honda, et all were beating Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler in sales. Why? They had less overhead. The big downfall of the big three was the Union. Toyota et all didn't have unions to worry about, and had less overhead. That is why the big three looked overseas to make parts etc. Too many greedy Americans wanting to get a shit-ton of benefits they did not deserve. Now adays, cars are pretty much the same.
I have to admit i don't know what toyota is doing with these fuckups and i've never heard about the problems you've listed. My wife has a 2001 sequoia with about 150k and everything still works and it runs great. We use it for long trips all the time, in confidence. You might want to take a look at the NHSA site.............you'll be surprised at all the domestics. Domestics are only good for tow companies and repair shops
There's something going on with that drive by wire (no cable on the throttle) set up. I know there are other toyota cars with the same problem, but they'll figure it out (it's hurting their bottom line). They wont wait until ppl stop buying their car and then beg washington for a bail out. Besides this is new technology and the big 3 don't even have it yet. I guess that after toyota refines and perfects it, then everyone will follow suit (copy)
If it's Imports yes, Accord 1st, Camry 2nd. But if it's domestic midsize car it can only be the Chevy Malibu. Ford fusion has no taste no style & the dodge avenger is a Joke, think of it as mickey mousing a car.
@teofthe : Are you freakin' kidding me? A Malibu is a MID-SIZED car, just like the Accord and Camry. An Accord has NEVER been larger than a Malibu. I should know - I've owned 2 Accords, and the 2nd one (1996) was barely bigger than the same year Civic. Civics, Corollas and the Focus are in a completely different size class (what used to be called "subcompact") than the Malibu. They're also aimed at younger buyers than the Malibu.
I'm not an American but I have always prefered Chevy and buick over any other brands. For some reason I hate those Asian lemons and I never spent my money on those.
Plus - quick zero to 50. Minus - My left buttcheek and right shin are bruised after just 1 day of hard steering wheel and weird triangle brick hard protrusion at the door hinge. This is a car that only Jigsaw could love.
Yeah well, a lot of soccer moms died in those ford explorers and GMC trucks. I remember one family being awarded a 1/2 billion for their son frying in a minor side collision. Instead of an apology they appealed until they ran out of appeals. Over the summer i got a recall notice that the steering linkages on my 2006 ram dually "May separate while driving". I only have about 35000 miles on it. I gave them a chance (because Mercedes own them and the cummins diesel) and they screwed me. Fuck em
@mack8ll1 Um.. you realize Toyota had to practically give away their cars to get those numbers right? That's nothing to be bragging about. They didn't make that money with retail costs. If you don't think this is going to effect Toyota in the long run, I have a bridge in NY to sell you..
@K3vinK NEWS FLASH. it was reorted last week that Toyota sales are up 41% in march alone, while GM lost 3.4 billion dollars.......................may the best car win, right?
@K3vinK actually, i ran two of them simotaneously. A carting co and a residential development co. I only worked for myself, unlike you. Now i'm retired with a 4800 sqft house, my BENZ and my 3500 Dodge dually all paid for. I built the house out of pocket (no mortgage or notes, all mine) numb nutz
BTW after Toyota made cars are now experiencing the same acceleration problem WITHOUT floor mats, they are finally admitting it's a mechanical failure. It's already killed how many people now? Domestic, Import, not much difference in today's market where everything is made in the same place practically.
@rwmcjazz Actually there is lots of evidence that the gas pedals are sticking. Also GM is now on average more reliable than Toyota. I have had many GMs, and I have had very few problems.
Also Toyota talks about reliability, but they can't build a decent heavy duty truck to save their life. It's one reason that Ford / GM trucks outsell Toyota trucks,. Same with pony cars... Er wait, Toyota doesn't even make one of those..
Especially the last 10 years. Now adays cars will last as long as you take care of them. And when it comes to bang for your buck, you simply GET MORE from a domestic.
@girlafraid88 Of which "unit" are you speaking is ugly, the 2007 Honda Element or the 2007 VW Beetle? "Lose" "your" lunch. "Loose" means not tight which is how I would describe "you" grammar. And I had no idea that "evertime" was even a word. Did you mean "every time?" Pathetic. The Chevy Malibu appears to be a pretty tight car with all the safety features within. Next!
A tell you what, there are some people in this conversation that really need to pay attention to who they are responding to. Most just go off in wild tangents acting as if all arguments come from one person. I couldn't give 2 shits about GM. Crimney.
@K3vinK Ford and GM have been around for over 100 years and were the only "Act in town". Now they have competition and they can't handle it. They're trying to do better now, after peeling themselves off the ground from the stomping they got from Toyota, Honda etc....
that shitty cobalt is giving the same acceleration problem as the toyos, but i don't hear anyone calling for a recall, why? they also have reliability issues. don't believe me.................then check for yourself
i love when people are so stupid when insulting someone else that they fail to see what they're saying isn't even true 2008 sebring: 173 horsepower 166 ft-lbs of torque 2008 fusion: 160 horsepower 156 ft-lbs of torque 2008 malibu: 169 horsepower 160 ft-lbs of torque 2008 accord: 177 horsepower 161 ft-lbs of torque the accord beats every figure except the sebring's torque figure okay you keep believing that japanese cars are underpowered toys lol
i know for a fact this malibu will have heavy transmission issues in the years to come. especially the tiptronic mode on the v6. 3.6L only 252 hp thats pure garbage.
@mack8ll1 WTF are you talking about? Ford posted a profit, and didn't need hand-outs from the Gov like GM did. Yes, the dealership and factory are still open no one said otherwise. You pick a lot of arguments no one has started.
Saw It, Driven It, Loved It. Purchasing A 10' Malibu LS
What is nice about Chevy"s paddle shifter, is that unlike other brands Chevy (at least the Malibu i drove) will hold the gear, even if you take it to redline! Very nice car. Ive always loved Hyundai, Toyota and Honda but this looks very nice and upscale.
Good job Chevy.
As a Honda fan I have to say after driving this car it is very, very good.
Damn, I wish we bought the Malibu instead of our current 2010 Ford Fusion. The Fusion is starting to become crap already!!!
i dont care, i love this car. not all american cars are as bad as we might think
0:13 When was it the leader? The 70s?
Will Poundstone it says that it has been overshadowed by the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry learn how to read dumb ass
why the hell couldn't I get paddle shifters on my top of the line LTZ Impala??...it cost more than this Malibu.. so..what gives..also I'd like that rear window sunshade.. wtf
cause they don't put those in Impala's dipshit
My 2009’ LTZ w/ that optional LY7 3.6l v6 just hit 100k miles and will go on as long as I love it!
A wagon/estate version would've been awesome
This may have been true in the late 80s early 90s, but not so much now. They all can be kept nice if the maintanence is kept up. I've seen too many Hondas fail for stupid reasons. BTW I am 37, and I've owned domestic and imports.
Had a 2010 LS but didnt say LS on it was black... should have kept it was a great car
I loved my 2004 malibu. I think 2008 or 2009 is the last year of that amazing V6!
The malibu i just bought it and it's awesome..!!

He said 6 speed cd changer by accident
did he just say six speed mp3 capable cd player?!?!?!
I test drove the car and feels like buying it, No doubt the car is very nice. Also I liked all new 2010 Buick models alot.. The buick cars are just amazing
I totally agree- - my sister just tears her Mazda apart. My 04 Chevy hasn't had any problems and I got 85K on it.
My dad has this car. I got my permit a month ago so I've been driving this car around.
I bought my Element, my first Honda, and found out the suspension design was wearing out the back tires way too soon and some glitch in the computer chip to always show the check engine light that I traded mine for the VW Bug in 2006. More than likely yes. The Malibu is a known rice killer.
2008 camry v6: 268 horsepower 248 ft-lbs of torque 2008 accord v6: 268 horsepower 248 ft-lbs of torque 2008 sebring v6: 235 horsepower 232 ft-lbs of torque 2008 malibu v6 252 horsepower 251 foot-lbs of torque 2008 fusion v6: 221 horsepower 205 ft-lbs of torque once again the malibu only beats the japanese in torque BARELY

I suggest you do some reading. They got the bailout because of shoddy management.
In 1992 maybe epi. Do you know a 1993 Mustang Cobra cost $19k new in 93? It lists for $28k now. Some depreciation huh?
how do you move the peddle
i have a 2011 i love it
Like it or not, the front grill is here to stay. They even put it on the the Chevy Cruze (the replacement for the cobalt)
We all owen part of GM why wouldnt you buy ther product they have come a long way for the good, malibu is awesome...
i was wondering about the steering wheel, looks a little big
he said 6 speed cd changer.
But I love that car and the rear tails.
so the unions are stopping customers from buying small3. how?
this car will prove the dud that it is by the time you are ready. cute and fuel efficient can't help you while you're waiting for the tow truck
11 years later. And it is STILL the best Malibu ever. I have one and absolutely love it.
Yes, Yes I did. But this isn't the 90s, we are talking about NOW.
My first car!!!
If you want to talk about recalls, well the foreign car are usually recalled for minor o rcosmetic irregularities where as the big 3 its usally life threatening.I have a 2006 dodge 3500 which needs to be serviced because the steering linkage may seperate while driving. toyota is the largest automaker in the entire world, not just the usa. got it ?
Fact is, this is about a GM car, not the deathmobiles known as Toyotas.

Anyone notice that he said six SPEED audio input jack at 3:04
I have no intention to buy this car.
Great car Government Workers and Pharmacuetical Reps use this as a company car....good gas milage too.
really? my sable has 167,430 on in, never one problem. you have to keep it in good shape.
@K3vinK no need to stop it, it does NOT RUN
body is assembled in mexico, engine and transmission, the heart and the brain, is made in USA. love the malibu hate the name of it though
I see you're only 18, the same age as one of my daughters. You just started driving and don't know much about cars or their histories, but you'll pay as you learn. I guarantee it buddy. I once loved domestics too and i started working on them before high school. Someone has issues...
Toyota will never live this down. Mark my words.
I'll admit that Toyota's quality has been slipping lately (probably due to the new cutting edge they're using, like drive-by-wire) but even so they build better cars than the Big 3. They build and sell more cars world-wide than the Small 3
@mack8ll1
My posts are very concretive, and easily read. If you cannot understand them, I suggest the problem is with you.
R.I.F. is a good program to look into.
Thanks.
I LOVE ME SOME SIX SPEED CD PLAYERS!!! ESP IF THEYRE MP3 CAPABLE!
they put a v4 in it for fuel economy so yeah the v4 is an economy car get a v6 if you want performence
@K3vinK does the phrase "Market share" mean anything to you? it means everything to the small3.............GO TOYOTA
There's something going on with that drive by wire (no cable on the throttle) set up. If it's Imports yes, Accord 1st, Camry 2nd. But if it's domestic midsize car it can only be the Chevy Malibu. Ford fusion has no taste no style & the dodge avenger is a Joke, think of it as mickey mousing a car.

I'm not an American but I have always prefered Chevy and buick over any other brands. For some reason I hate those Asian lemons and I never spent my money on those.
I agree 100%
good for you. Since the interior is so nice, you wont mind sitting around waiting for the tow truck in comfort
@K3vinK I know of five former GM dealerships in my area that are now dance studios and retail stores
Plus - quick zero to 50.
Minus - My left buttcheek and right shin are bruised after just 1 day of hard steering wheel and weird triangle brick hard protrusion at the door hinge. This is a car that only Jigsaw could love.
Um, the Cobalt insn't having problems shutting down. Sorry.
I need to show the sunroof
Yeah well, a lot of soccer moms died in those ford explorers and GMC trucks. I remember one family being awarded a 1/2 billion for their son frying in a minor side collision. Instead of an apology they appealed until they ran out of appeals. Over the summer i got a recall notice that the steering linkages on my 2006 ram dually "May separate while driving". I only have about 35000 miles on it. I gave them a chance (because Mercedes own them and the cummins diesel) and they screwed me. Fuck em
@mack8ll1
Um.. you realize Toyota had to practically give away their cars to get those numbers right?
That's nothing to be bragging about. They didn't make that money with retail costs.
I know a local Toyota dealer around here and he says while they are selling a lot of them, he isn't making much off it. Toyota is trying to get rid of the problem cars quickly.
If you don't think this is going to effect Toyota in the long run, I have a bridge in NY to sell you..
@K3vinK The way things are going at GM right now, they might have to beg for another BAILOUT
Domestic, Import, not much difference in today's market where everything is made in the same place practically.
never say never. remember audi, ford and GMC.
i'm gonna get one just as soon as I can save up enough money for a down payment for one
Did u get one yet how are you enjoying it? I'm buying one soon just want opinions as I'm buying straight out
@@sunshinelove364 yeah same I’m getting one too .so how do u like it?
@@idywatt2041 I didn't get it. I end up getting an suv which I do love lol... Good luck to you.
@rwmcjazz Actually there is lots of evidence that the gas pedals are sticking. Also GM is now on average more reliable than Toyota. I have had many GMs, and I have had very few problems.
You'll need it
Something to do while waiting for a tow
Also Toyota talks about reliability, but they can't build a decent heavy duty truck to save their life. It's one reason that Ford / GM trucks outsell Toyota trucks,.
Same with pony cars...
Er wait, Toyota doesn't even make one of those..
they build and sell more autos than the small3 combined. That's a fact buddy. Keep trying
Especially the last 10 years. Now adays cars will last as long as you take care of them. And when it comes to bang for your buck, you simply GET MORE from a domestic.

go ahead, buy your malibu and then in a year or so we'll see if you feel the same way
I am referring to the Gov bailout. It has nothing to do with the way they are made.
I'm getting a Camry...........
A tell you what, there are some people in this conversation that really need to pay attention to who they are responding to. Most just go off in wild tangents acting as if all arguments come from one person.
I couldn't give 2 shits about GM.
Crimney.
you mean like the beretta or corsica.........oh, i forgot, those cars died at the same speed they came in at
@K3vinK Ford and GM have been around for over 100 years and were the only "Act in town". Now they have competition and they can't handle it. They're trying to do better now, after peeling themselves off the ground from the stomping they got from Toyota, Honda etc....

Yes, the dealership and factory are still open no one said otherwise.

Why is everybody talking about being patriotic while GM is building their autos in Mexico and Cannada for the sheeps in the US
