Fire jumped from tile roof to tiled roof while avoiding burning trees, shrubs and grass then spread to the hillside.... yeah this all looks very normal. Lol

Trees, shrubs, and grasses have much higher moisture than the wood of those homes. Wood has a moisture of about 8%, but the vegetation is probably all above 70% moisture content.This is why homes burn and vegetation might not.
@Old man's Raider Nation The fire chief said he believed embers were getting into attics and then igniting homes. Radiative heat and the production of many thousands of embers is what led to other structures igniting. I don't believe the chief said the roofs were immediately catching fire, but that there are tiny gaps or holes where embers could get in. It would be interesting to read the report by the state fire marshalls and other fire investigators about what caused these homes to ignite. What do you think it is if it is more than fires?

I wonder if these homeowners kept their insurance coverage levels up to date? It’s $200-$250/sf. to build a “Tract” home in Southern California. To rebuild one of these custom homes/mansions will cost anywhere between $750-$3,000/sf. depending on the level of luxury involved. These are just build costs. This price doesn’t include replacement of contents such as furniture, art, silver, antiques, wine cellar contents, etc. that should have been on a separate insurance schedule.

There is a popular public hiking trail which runs right in front of these homes along the ridge, which have incredible views of the coastline and Catalina Island. Taken many photos from here. These are high up on a hill overlooking the ocean. The wind is driving this fire quickly.

The lack of fire + climate change is making fire seasons more extreme. This is the consensus among fire scientists and fire chiefs in the US. Also, the term drought is incorrect. To put it into context, we are experiencing the aridification of the West. We are in a megadrought with no end in sight...

I watched the initial 2 hrs. Where the #uck were the fire trucks to protect the homes!? Not one truck did I see at the Ridgeline. The news fire specialist was talking about: 1, get people to safety and 2: protect property. WTF happened?! I support police, fire and military. But some people funked up!!!

depends, 2019 and 2021 weren't too bad, but some years are really awful like 2017 and 2020's fire season
@@vectr0nmusic No 2021 was really bad in CA. 2.5 million acres burned, much at high severity. We also experienced the largest non complex fire on record and was the first time a fire burned across the entire sierras from left to right (it happened in 2 fires last season). California is fire adapted to experience fire every 7-12 years, but climate change and fire suppression messed up the fire regime.

The toxic mix of chemicals could show up down the road in allo kinds of unknown illnesses and all your hard work to enjoy family and retirement will be gone. Take care of yourselves! KTLA find a new way to protect your staff. Try drones or something. Putting people in harm's way for the sake of a news report is ridiculous!

Fighting the wind seems almost impossible.
I don't think it was the wind, but laser energy directed weapons. Why are the trees and bushes not burning in between houses? Also steel cars don't melt with a (house) fire. That just defies physics.
Vegetation isn't burning because the moisture in vegetation is far higher than dead wood that makes up homes. Steel cars do melt in wildfires, which is what this was. The energy of this fire was far far greater than a single house fire.

Instead trying to put it out, firefighters focus on structure protection and building a bigger box. This is what is currently happening in NM with the Calf Canyon Fire. The focus needs to be on reducing global emissions, and fire hardening homes.
