OMG, I am in tears my mom never made bread from scratch and I always wanted to make bread I have tried different recipes but the top of my bread you can knock on the top and is hard no one told me that putting butter on the top when it is hot that it will soften it up. After watching this I am going to go back and give it a try again and do the butter trick and see how my bread turns out if it works this time I will be making more bread than buying bread my opinion I think it is better than the store-bought.
I hope it works well for you! Hard tops are usually from adding too much flour during kneading and over working the dough too. The butter softens the tops some but they didn't have a hard crust on top to begin with.

Mini loaves, no--I don't think I've made a mini loaf in my entire life. :) That said, I'd say put enough in your loaf pan so that it's 2/3's full. Then let it rise until just above the rim of the pan.
I made these today! I have never been able to get my rolls right, but this recipe is so simple to do. I wanted to practice before Thanksgiving. I didn’t knead them like this and they still came out great! But I’ll def do it next time. Thank u so much!
I just made them and they turned out great! I think I'll add a bit more salt for flavor. Other than that these were good. I'll probably make them for thanksgiving:) I just subscribed and can't wait to see more recipes
So glad to hear that Nicole! Remember a slower rise in cooler temps makes a more yeasty flavor...and use salted butter for spreading on for that extra kick!
Hi , I’m new to this but u are an absolute blessing to me and others…thank u! I do have a question; Do u think hot dog rolls and hamburger rolls can work for this? They do sell form pans but was wondering if it would work?
So good to follow your simple recipe. Thank you very much. Please can you give me the list of ingredients of this bread. Thank you. Because a beginner I watch it many times.👍😁😁😁. Watching from hongkong.
Wondering about neutral flavored vegetable oil.. ? Is Canola neutral? or corn oil? or safflower oil? . I am sorry I do not know much about the vegetable oils in the market ... thank you for your VERY helpful videos ... you are a great teacher!
Avocado is what I recommend. All canola, vegetable, corn, oils are inflammatory and not good for our health, but if you cook with those normally any of them will work here.
If this recipe were turned into cinnamon rolls, what temperature should be used for baking and how many minutes should they bake? Your “How to make a Loaf of Bread from Scratch (Beginner Friendly)” video brought me to this video, because you mentioned that it made good cinnamon rolls and that it was the same recipe you used for the rolls in this video. Thank you in advance. 😊
I'd bake them at 375 probably (sugar burns faster so turning down the oven helps with that) until they are golden brown and not dough in the center--probably the same 20/25 minutes but keep an eye on them and tent with foil if they start getting too brown before the center is done. I use a knife to poke down in to the center one to see if it's baked. I have a full cinnamon roll video here on the channel that would be much better than using this basic bread recipe if you want to check that out.
Sorry for replaying to such an old video but I've been watching a ton of your stuff and learning a lot. However, why when you make the beginner loaf break you knead before the first rise and with the these yeast rolls you allow them to rise first and then knead?
You can comment on any video no matter how old and I'll answer. :) This recipe and the bread recipe are exactly the same as far as ingredients and the kneading is honestly just whenever I feel like doing it. The results of bread are no different whether you knead after the first rise or before. The recipe was originally taught to me to knead after the first rise like in the bread video but most "bread experts" do it before. In the end it's all the same.
When you say use cup to measure, are you using an ordinary cup or cooking cup. I have cooking cups which says 1cup is 250ml on it. 1/2 cup 125 ml, 1/4 cup 60 ml and 1/3 cup 80 ml. Thanks Kay from England.
I hope you might see this! I'd love to start making my own bread and other baked goods at home, but is there a good way to prevent sticking in stainless steel/glass without messing up the quality of your bread? I have a bird which means I can't use anything nonstick (they are sensitive to the fumes). This is always what has been holding me back.
Hi there! Glass is one of the best for bread baking. You can always line with unbleached parchment if you want to or just grease everything really well with avocado oil (not butter). Glass loaf pans are easy to find but probably not muffin pans. Stainless might be an option there and you could do cupcake liners in them for rolls or just grease well. A very thin pairing knife will help release any stuck spots.
Kiana they will fall if you tried to rise them overnight. What you could do is mix the dough up, cover it, and put it in the fridge all night. Then the next morning punch it down, knead it, and shape your rolls. Let them rise an hour and bake. That would work!
@@rina2217 You can't really hurt a dough if you chill it overnight on the first rise. It will be huge when you get it out, but just punch it down. I'd even argue that the yeasty flavor will be better. The only time you run a risk of a problem is if they they are already shaped and in the pan. If you over rise them before baking they will sink in the oven.
Hi Rachel!! I love your recipes. What’s the difference between active dry yeast and instant yeast. Yesterday I attempted to do your cinnamon roll bread. It came out super hard. Can you advise me what did I do wrong. I used the instant yeast. Thank you for your response.
@@luzamor821 Instant yeast will activate just like active dry so if it foamed up that wasn't the issue.. Was your bread really hard on top? That comes from adding too much flour and overworking your dough/messing with it too much usually.
I made these tonight and my honey and I love them. And they turned out beautifully. The problem is we can’t eat 12 rolls! 😱. How do I freeze these??? Help please!! And then how do I rewarm them??
Just throw them in an air tight container or zip lock back and use a straw to suck the air out through the zip top. Then freeze up to 2 months. You can bake them from frozen wrapped in some foil until heated, microwave them a bit (I think this makes them tough) or thaw at room temp then warm in the oven uncovered.
I don't use vegetable oil at all anymore so you can swap that. If you use coconut oil, it has to be refined with no flavor. Otherwise your bread will taste like coconuts and that's gross. :)
What's your favorite thing to spread on a warm roll? I'll take butter and strawberry jam!
Honey butter! Yum!
Looking forward to using this recipe 😊
Butter, butter, butter...and then any jam. Love this as desert!
@@michellebartel I LOVE bread for dessert! Haha!

Mini loaves, no--I don't think I've made a mini loaf in my entire life. :) That said, I'd say put enough in your loaf pan so that it's 2/3's full. Then let it rise until just above the rim of the pan.
Making these now & can’t wait to try them. ♥️
I made these today! I have never been able to get my rolls right, but this recipe is so simple to do. I wanted to practice before Thanksgiving. I didn’t knead them like this and they still came out great! But I’ll def do it next time. Thank u so much!
I'm so glad you tackled it! They aren't nearly as hard as everyone thinks!
We made 4 dozen yesterday and added a little extra sugar. I’m addicted!
@@rina2217 Girl you're gonna be a pro baker in no time!
Wonderful!! How much oil and sugar do you use?
You can find the link to the recipe in the description box.
Very good job on the video easy to watch
Can you substitute melted butter for the oil? I can’t wait to try these!
You can, but butter in bread does make them drier and more crumbly.
@@FeastandFarmCooks Thank you.
Thank you I have looking for a great roll recipe
You're welcome Sharon!
Just found your channel and LOVE it!! Became a subscriber! You're to stinking precious!! 😀
Thank you! Welcome to Feast and Farm-- I'm so glad to have you!
Gorgeous !!!
Hi , I’m new to this but u are an absolute blessing to me and others…thank u!
I do have a question;
Do u think hot dog rolls and hamburger rolls can work for this? They do sell form pans but was wondering if it would work?
Some others say that it works great for both. I haven't tried it and tend to use different, more sturdy recipes for those.
So good to follow your simple recipe. Thank you very much. Please can you give me the list of ingredients of this bread. Thank you. Because a beginner I watch it many times.👍😁😁😁. Watching from hongkong.
There's a link in the description box you can follow to the blog. :)
Making these now!
@@FeastandFarmCooks thank you so much for your fast reply
@@FeastandFarmCooks Thank you so much for replying. I will be attempting to make cinnamon rolls in the near future.
This looks good
I love homemade everything. Rarely eat out.
Thank you!!
When you say use cup to measure, are you using an ordinary cup or cooking cup. I have cooking cups which says 1cup is 250ml on it. 1/2 cup 125 ml, 1/4 cup 60 ml and 1/3 cup 80 ml. Thanks Kay from England.
Yes those are always cooking cups. You'll never see me use anything else. --Rachel
@@FeastandFarmCooks Thank you so much! 0:
if we have jarred active dry how much should i use?? Google says 2 1/4 teaspoon but it looks like way more than your packet has
Nope that's right!
We are doing these today to go with homemade veggie soup!
Sounds great!
What's the yeast measurement if it's in a jar and not packaged? Thank you
Hey! I usually keep that answer pinned at the top of the comments but it's 2 1/4 teaspoons/7 grams.
Would it be possible to let these do the first rise overnight, or would it over rise at that point? Thanks!
Kiana they will fall if you tried to rise them overnight. What you could do is mix the dough up, cover it, and put it in the fridge all night. Then the next morning punch it down, knead it, and shape your rolls. Let them rise an hour and bake. That would work!
I’m wondering about this too. So your basically doing the first rise overnight in the fridge?
@@rina2217 You can't really hurt a dough if you chill it overnight on the first rise. It will be huge when you get it out, but just punch it down. I'd even argue that the yeasty flavor will be better. The only time you run a risk of a problem is if they they are already shaped and in the pan. If you over rise them before baking they will sink in the oven.
It looks so easy. How many grams is 1 pkt of yeast.. we don’t get yeast in sachets.
1/4 gram.
Hi Rachel!! I love your recipes. What’s the difference between active dry yeast and instant yeast. Yesterday I attempted to do your cinnamon roll bread. It came out super hard. Can you advise me what did I do wrong. I used the instant yeast. Thank you for your response.
Hi! Did you activate the yeast? Did you see it foam? Give me some more details and I'll try to help!
Hi Rachel. Thank you for your prompt response. I activated the instant yeast in the warm water with the sugar. Not knowing mine was Instant yeast.
Our Stote is out of stock for the active dry yeast
@@luzamor821 Instant yeast will activate just like active dry so if it foamed up that wasn't the issue.. Was your bread really hard on top? That comes from adding too much flour and overworking your dough/messing with it too much usually.
Feast and Farm Cooks ohhh 😲 ok. I also was kind interrupted when I uncovered the bowl for the first time of resting.
Do you have a recipe for hot dog buns/ baguettes 🥖? 😊
No not yet
May I ask if you made your darling curtains? I love them. Thanks for a great video.
I did 😊. I usually make all of my curtains.
@@FeastandFarmCooks thank you, they are so pretty. You did a great job. It looks so warm and inviting. 💜
How well would this double? I’m assuming it may not be as easy as doubling all of the ingredients?
Most baking recipes don't double correctly, but this one does. :)
Its looks good... Were is the full recipe the sugar salt?
Hi Pearl, the link to the recipe is in the description area below the video.
@@FeastandFarmCooks thank you 😍😍😍
Can we use coconut oil instead of using vegetable oil as its expensive in sri lanka
I don't use vegetable oil at all anymore so you can swap that. If you use coconut oil, it has to be refined with no flavor. Otherwise your bread will taste like coconuts and that's gross. :)
Hi. Could I skip the egg? Any advice what to replace egg for a vegan? Thanks 😊
I've never tested the recipe without the egg. That said, lots of breads are made without eggs and they hold up just fine so you are welcome to try it.
