The DSi sat out for like 5 hrs before we got there because no one wants to gamble on untested hardware for $100. But I agree with your estimation of profit. For the ps2, GBA & POKÉMON Red is worth about 200. However, after ebay fees, shipping, gas and time, they would net about $120 profit. In my humble opinion, as an ebay eseller, you would probably make about $60 profit on on this deal(from the DS). I completely understand the moms apprehension. Games are now like comics were in the 90s, everyone thinks their collection is worth 1000s, especially those who are uninformed.
The point of us going to these garage sales is to profit and with games a profit is a gamble due to condition and functionality of untested items. I would say you are pretty accurate in your assumptions of profit.

Just because you don't believe it's a real job means nothing. Reselling is one of the oldest professions there is. Resellers help collectors find items that they otherwise would not be able to. Also a neighborhood kid has no desire to buy this kind of stuff because they would rather be playing PS5 or other modern stuff.

It's always a risk to buy untested electronics. Even if they can sell for parts it's not going to sell for as much as a working one. I don't go to garage sales to make 10-20% profit. That would not be worth my time, effort, or gas.

It doesn't really matter if they are built like tanks or not. That GBA is over 20 years old and I come across then quite often when they don't work. And condition whether it's cosmetic or not always effects the price of what things sell for. Pokemon Red can easily be a fake or have a dead save battery which will also effect what it's worth. And it's not enough to just not lose anything. If I buy a lot stuff and break even I automatically lost due to my time, gas, and wear and tear on my vehicle.
I can see where a lot of these commenters are coming from in their dislike of the price negotiation but you have to think if he's not keeping those for himself then he has to resell and deal with fees and for me personally I replace all the save batteries and clean up the contacts so that more time invested as well. The problem with a lot of resellers, not reselling itself, is that they deal without a conscience. They're scam artists. Everything they're reselling has a pretty set market value, they know that value and they intentionally seek out people who don't, in order to, for no lack of a better word, rip them off. I resell too. Of course we want to make money, because at the end of the day it's a job. But I was taught to make an "honest dollar", and to not abandon my conscience for greed. Yes, we have some fees dealing with places like ebay and whatnot. Yes, we value our time... but it's not right to think every second of your day is a second you should be paid for. My actual job doesn't pay for my gas, or miles I put on my car to get to and from work. I have to work for that money to pay for my gas. Driving around to yard sales shouldn't be factored into the profits, unlike uber which is a job about driving. A lot of people can twist things to make them sound okay, and that's how they get into this guy's mindset. "It's okay to rip the lady off... if she's willing to take that lowball amount." No, actually it's not, b/c he had the information and she didn't. It's never okay to intentionally take advantage of another person. And there's a difference between lowballing, and someone who just wants something gone so much they don't care about the price.

When I garage sale on Thursdays and Fridays I typically drive from 7:00 in the morning till about 4:00 in the afternoon. Also a normal jobs pays you by the hour so every second of your work day is paid for. You make assumptions about myself and the seller with nothing to back them up except your feelings.
