    Odd seeing you without your usual enthusiasm, but I suppose that's the reality of the car you're driving. Glad you didn't waste time complaining about the power, and very glad that you mentioned the torque dip and possible solutions. I know an unequal header as well as a tune helps eliminate that dip for under a thousand bucks.

    spot on review. Sound system isn't great, should have used the Scion tC door panel speakers on the FRS/86. The clunk of changing the gears, the exhaust note is spot on imo. etc there's tons of 86 reviews I thought this was a good one

  • @xonnett
    @xonnett 6 лет назад +13

    Btw you can fix the torque dip by adding a turbo or a supercharger. Another cheaper way to kill the dip is to add a UEL header w/ a stage 2 tune. Just sayin...not hard to fix...

    • @zureai
      @zureai 5 лет назад +5

      not hard to fix but rather costly for a supercharger imo uel headers and a stage 2 is fine but once you drive in a sc 86 you'll never feel the same

    • @cdoggy10
      @cdoggy10 5 лет назад

      @@zureai I'm UEL stage 2, nice exhaust not drony or painfully loud. Sounds kinda like a wrx lol. It's really fun on good tires. I'm probably going flex fuel e85 next, since it's such high compression you can get really good gains from e85.

      THANK YOU!!!!! Turbo got it solved why I can spank “muscle “ cars and I managed to negotiate the dealer to do all these mods at a minimal hire cost but they sold the car even put in a push to start for me cause mine was lacking that feature due to all the money they put into the exhaust removing that ugly SRT trim and putting in 86 special edition emblems and hooking it up with a Turbo cause I didn’t like the ugly orange ones they had I wanted the patent Raven black read up about it that’s why the value of my car is going up A they only made so many special editions and Raven black is exclusive to the 86 not the BRZ or the FRS …. There will never be any other car that can use that paint and this is the new trend car enthusiast are buying the frames and fairing and putting new guts in them all together like the classic 1967 Porsche that there is like only 300 of them muska gutted it and made it a electric car under the hood but it’s got the elegance of that classic body Porsche it’s the sleeper car cause it’s doing 0-60 in 1.2 sec

  • @stmk-mh6gx
    @stmk-mh6gx 7 лет назад +3

    "eight-six badges everywhere" yes but not the right ones because I miss the boxer eighty-six badge on the FRS side blades, and for 2017 apparently the torque dip got worse. and for that reason I would suggest the FRS

He said he doesn't like how it commutes but I use it as a everyday driver and love it. I do live in Louisiana so for me great roads to drive down. Soon to add a CAI and new exhaust system.

    I regularly question if the noises coming from the clutch and gearbox are supposed to be there, so relieving to know it's not just my car. I honestly have never ridden in any one else's 86 other than my own so I never get to hear their race car noises for comparison.

    It's actually called the 86 because it has a 86mm bore and a 86mm stroke, the same as the original one from years ago, and the torque dip was engendered in because when your on the highway just cruzing your around 3000 - 3500 rpm and it saves you fuel, so I hope you learnt something here 😊

    Predecessor? It doesn’t have a predecessor. The AE86 was just a special corolla that has no relation to this. And it’s not related to any other Toyota sports cars like the Supra. It’s literally gen 1 of a completely new car. What predecessor?

    • @CplCheeto
      @CplCheeto 6 лет назад

      The ae86 wasn't special at all it was just the last of the rear wheel drive corollas, the ae86 is actually the chassis # for that generation of corolla just like the previous generation of corolla was the AE85

    But yah man bro read about the patented paint cause it’s pretty important when every car looks the same so many people have been like yoooo what kinda car is that everyone’s got a challenger a mustang or a hellcat …. Literally and the reason 86 is better then the new Supra is cause let’s be honest the Supra body is to much shit looks like it’s ready to head to the launch pad for take of to the moon. The 86 is curvy sleek aggressive … and it’s Porsche Boxster engine!!!! Not just a BMW Z4 in a different wrapper… so hear me out the Supra is a gimmicky car too how many talk or even know what an86 is it’s cause that’s the way the engine is shaped thus it’s a Porsche in a different shell see they cheated up not down lol V8 I can buy a crown Victoria and still out pace a hellcat mustang or challenged those cars are a joke muscle my ass

    Great video! I find it sad that everything Toyota touches on this vehicle they make worse. The BRZ now looks way better than this scared fish faced Toyota. You can also get brembos and better dampeners in the BRZ. Really n reason to buy this uglified Toyota over the BRZ. All of Toyota good cars are built by Subaru or Mazda. My they have fallen

    • @ThrottleHouse
      @ThrottleHouse  7 лет назад +1

      +Blake Swan yea the Inazuma BRZ is a very tempting alternative to this...

    • @dhj-i8g
      @dhj-i8g 7 лет назад +1

      Blake Swan Having owned a BRZ for 3 years, and then test driving a new WRX, I actually think the opposite. The best driver's car from Subaru is the one Toyota taught them to make (but yes, it doesn't look as pretty).

    • @Synthwave89
      @Synthwave89 7 лет назад +5

      I respect your opinion but completely disagree. I absolutely LOVE the fascia of the Toyota 86, and although I want the Performance Package of the BRZ, I can't get over how much I prefer the 86. Where I live there are plenty of BRZ Limited but no 86 special editions. It's killing me because I'm either gonna have to travel for an 86 or buy the BRZ limited.

    • @zues2013
      @zues2013 6 лет назад +5

      Blake Swan brz looks like a round egg the Toyota 86 has hard points and lines on the front bumper that makes it looks aggressive

    At $29k you can just get a 370z, better car, faster both in straight and track, rwd and just as fun if not more fun than these cars.

    • @Zero2Nil
      @Zero2Nil 7 лет назад +8

      Or buy a used FRS/BRZ that looks better, performs almost identically and save $10k+ for mods/track time.

    • @coced
      @coced 7 лет назад +10

      Btw at that price, the Torsen lsd is standard on the 86, on the Z you pay something like 4k more than the base coupe. Why nobody talks about that ?
      I just bought the 86 6M and is made my decision based on a mix of reviews like the ones Chris Harris did when the car just came out
      What i can say is; MAN WHAT A CAR. Don't judge a car by its number. It feels light, lively, responsive, analog... You hear everything that is going on. You have to drive them both to understand. Its just RIGHT
      and then you realize its a Toyota/Subaru that is currently in the top 10 of the most reliable cars according to Consumer report and its a gas sipper and its got back kind of seats and a trunk you can put 4 tires in. The list goes on...

    • @damgoodballers
      @damgoodballers 7 лет назад +1

      Matt R you can buy both used for 18k-22k, Z looks better, handles just as well and just as fun to drive.

    • @damgoodballers
      @damgoodballers 7 лет назад

      Cédric Coulombe so it’s got back seats... so what. Let’s see what the 86 does on the Nurburgring. Won’t even beat a 17yr old s2000 let alone an HR 350. Don’t kid yourself, yes it’s a nice car, but it lacks horsepower and torque and for that money I’d buy a lot better than a brz/frs.

    • @TassieLorenzo
      @TassieLorenzo 6 лет назад +3

      Does that Z really handle just as well? The Z weighs 200 kg/400lbs more, though it does compensate by running much wider & more expensive tyres.

  • @OlDuckOffroad
    @OlDuckOffroad 7 лет назад +1

    Infotainment,,,,,, eehhhh!! What kind of stupid review was that? The Infotainment screen is one of the big differences between the 86 and the BRZ, as well as previous models and exactly what people are looking for in a good review. Sorry but thumbs down from me on this one.

    • @Heimdal001
      @Heimdal001 5 лет назад +1

      That's how I feel about a lot of more powerful cars. A camaro will win in a drag race, but lets face it, that's a couple hundred HP advantage that will rarely see use... Most people have a camaro for looks. The 86 however, can make you feel all of the power it has, legally, on everyday driving -- It can dominate corners in racing, which is handling that translates to everyday driving far more directly than sports car HP is legally allowed to.
      The 86 is a driver's car. Driving it feels like a wheeled extension of yourself, and your skill. Meanwhile, bigger HP cars feel like you're reigning in a beast. Both feels are pretty cool, so that's a matter of preference. Anybody liking the former will love and want the 86, because it's just fantastic at it.

  • @cheshire147

    You didn’t even explain why it’s a special edition you dunce … the color change the paint raven is patented ie they shit fairings from Japan to Germany cause they created the color and Porsche owns the rights by working with Japan and Germany ie if you look at the frame of the car it has Subaru/Toyota stamps it was a duel build this car has 2 back seats that are basically Styrofoam painted black cause in order for this car to be street legal and allow 3rd party mods ie engineer this drag car to embarrass “muscle” cars that really just have a huge engine and instead of Steele like a real muscle car they have dropped its weight significantly. They top out at 7-8rpms with a huge fuxin almost complete kick to compensate the weight to the front after they beat the 86 of the line these cars don’t do 9rpms or can handle the distribution of weight to really street or drag race… to bulky to fat and sorry no Tokyo drift for you around a corner that fat long boat car will spin out while im already turnt and gone lol …. Sad I wouldn’t play for papers cause I would want to be seen in a ugly car… that changing color in the angles and light paint ummm makes that shit look sleek…. I know I’d give it my car…. “American muscle cars today are just like women who do plastic surgery to hide the wrinkles, or dudes that use creatine to look heavy and big but it’s water weight again no balls of steel cause it’s not a real muscle car it just likes to look like one that’s why the 86 is sexy it’s always underestimated but the special edition or the SRT or if you throw 2 turbos into the 86 use a odb blue driver to mod the specs when I push sports mode my turbos kick and my Greddys split and I hawk a luggy out the wind as you catch my dust and then you get a whiff of the smell broken wind cause I farted and the luggy bitch slaps your window as I’m feet in front of you middle finger up mouthing as I bump my shit and you realize you lost and I win lol
