- Master the perspective grid tool in Adobe Illustrator, and learn some neat and helpful tips or tricks along the way.
The perspective grid tool can be slightly daunting in Illustrator, but it need not be that way. It can actually be very beneficial for specific kinds of design, and is a handy tool for any digital designer / graphic designer.
I know most of us have before opened the perspective grid tool by mistake, and prior to knowing exactly what it was, we may have closed the document entirely! Maybe some of you have never really made designs with the perspective grid, or don’t see it as beneficial at all. In todays Illustrator tutorial, I hope to dispel those ideas, because the perspective grid is actually very helpful to us designers, especially for things such as package design and 3D mockups.
I have actually used the perspective grid to make a couple of logos in my career, but it isn’t only for logo designing of course. And actually, it’s rarely used for that. I walk you through the perspective grid widget, the different functions and uses of it, and how to apply shapes, designs and text, into the perspective grid with ease.

You can use numbers 1-4 to select a plane rather than having to click on the widget. Just make sure you have perspective selection tool active (shift-v)

Awesome! I’ll never forget the first time I accidentally clicked on the perspective grid in Illustrator and panicked when trying to figure out how to get out of it. Lol. It really is a fantastic tool but confusing at first-thank you for the great overview of how to use it :)

Thanks buddy. I got my hands on quite a few 'advanced' illustrator guides from big names and belive it or not, none of them aproached the use of the perspective grid tool lol. I got really upset today as i spent quite a few hours trying to give perspective to a pattern using different transformation tools but failing miserably. I ll give it another try tomorrow using this guide which i am pretty sure will cut it for what i got to do.

@@SatoriGraphics thanks buddy. Yeah, it seems so, with a bit of extended search. I am currently using the perspective grid tool to manually draw a floor. I managed to manipulate the dimension to match my desired angle and ill just do it square by square. Althlugh it wont look as fine as i imagined it, it wont be far off. I just can't get to free transform a pattern without screwing up the object shape.

I used the Perspective Grid a few times but for tutorials I followed so I didn't quite understand the tool full potential like I didn't know u could change it to a one point perspective also thx a bunch for that shortcut I usually just click "x" on the widget Lol this really helped me understand so much better ^^
Really nice work man... I used to use sketch up for most of my perspective shots but now am rethinking all of it specially for simple low detailed shots.... I was really inspired by this

That's all great, but I don't understand how you're supposed to draw a precise shape (a building for example), when you can't match up the lines in the left and right grid so they land on the same vertical. I would want those to snap together, so that when I draw planes (walls etc.), they can snap to the grid AND to each other, creating a precise corner. What am I missing? Thanks!

@@HaneenHlehel No, I've completely given up on using Illustrator for this kind of thing. Possible that they have since addressed it in an update.

thanks for this, can you have an arrow (made with the pen tool) follow and adjust to the perspective grid? I want the actual arrow part of the line (the triangle) to adjust to one of the cube grids, thanks in advance

Yes, but how do i snap my grid onto my strokes as I would snap my strokes onto my grid? Its really frustrating to get the smart boards "dumb boards" to line up properly. It's urgent

Great tutorial Tom. Just a little feedback for you... In the last few videos your sound has been very low, and on this one there was a few moments I had to have my volume up to max just to hear it.
And a word to the wise... There has been a lot of content theft with design tutorials on RUclips lately and it seems its rife in India. What they are doing is copying someone's video every step of the way and then repackaging it under their name. They are choosing your highest rated videos to get the video to 10k very quickly so the can monetize it.
I've seen quite a few videos from another channel being used already like this. Protect your content Tom 👍

It’s not that easy as it looks, I practised it and I failed 😔 I wanted to do perspective text under a cubic object...something was wrong for sure lol It just didn’t happened what I’ve imagined 😛 will try again...

You would think people come in here to learn how to use the perspective tool, but they are here to learn how to turn it off because they popped it by accident

Show me how to put a perspective grid over a wide angle image, then I'll be impressed. There's like 100 tutorials where everyone starts with a blank page. But, matching real-life images say for signage THAT is useful. This anyone can do. Not frustrated at you, but this tool is so so old. Horrible UX.
