I thought that threading was just me! good to know it's not. Just made my first rotisserie chicken earlier. JUICY! I brined for 24 hrs got the product mainly for my chihuahua..
I usually always brine my poultry. It's the best! :)
Great video on how to tie or truss a chicken. I’ve watched several and NO one has given a better demonstration the way you have. Thanks
Thank you so much!
Same. Gonna try it tonight.
Absolutely agree 🎉
Wish I had seen this b4 I tried the vortex rotisserie. It was a struggle
Oh no. Glad I could help. You can look me up on Facebook and I always answer questions right away if you ever have any or need any help. :)
I have a vortex air fryer. Do I need to hit the air fry or roast options when I do rotisserie?
You can use either, but if you use air fry then you have to make sure to hit the rotate button. Roast automatically rotates.
excellent video on the trussing and mounting of the birds on the rotisserie rod. Thanks
Thank you for this excellent video. You did a super job showing and explaining. I have never trussed a chicken and want to try to do this. Believe it or not, after learning your technique the bigger challenge will be finding a chicken under 4lbs.
Awe thank you so much! I am so glad you found it helpful. I do have a video on how to cook a bird that is over 4 lbs on the rotisserie. It's actually much easier than trussing a whole bird.
I'm about to cook 2 cornish game hens and this was awesome for showing me how to truss a bird! Thank you so much for being so amazingly helpful!
You just made my whole day! Thank you so much and I hope your hens come out fabulous. Cornish game hens were what I cooked my husband when we were dating. It was the first meal I ever cooked for him. That was a long time ago, wish I had an Instant Air Fryer back then.
@@LanaUnderPressure Hi! I just received a vortex for Christmas, and now I found you! Can I rotisserie 2 cornish hens at the same time? That is the 1st thing I want to make! Yummy. Thanks!
Do not think this video is too old.
Or the information is outdated.
This was exactly what I needed to see for my rotisserie air fryer toaster oven.
Thank you
You are a life saver! I just bought a Vortex air fryer oven mainly for the rotisserie part. I have never trussed a chicken before that I can remember, so I am soooo happy to have found you. I'm going to cook a Cornish game hen today for my husbands 75th Birthday, so I will be watching this many times I'm sure through the process :) Thank-you Lana, I can't wait to see more of you cooking!
Hello Janet, I hope it turned out well and Happy Birthday to your husband. I was thinking about trying the same thing when I get mine this week.
Thanks Lana🍻
Christmas Yard Bird was awesome and 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. Mom was impressed 👍😁
Wow...your video is the best! Thanks
Thank you so much for the helpful video. Im making a rotisserie chicken for dinner. I've made one before in my Instant Vortex Plus but since have purchased the Omni and seriously like your instructional videos.
Oh boy thank you so much fro your kind words. I am so glad you find them helpful. And Good Luck! You got this. :)
@@LanaUnderPressure Thank you so much Lana, and your quite welcome. I followed your directions and that chicken was all over the place....Houdini himself couldn't get out of that truss....lol...but it worked out and I think it will be perfect! Again, thanks for the video....

This is so helpful. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much! I wish I watched this before I really struggled with a chicken today for my air fryer oven! I know how to do it much easier in the future thanks to your detailed instructions!
You are a great content creator! Great camera angles and very precise instructions!
After watching a couple other trussing videos that left legs and wings loose, I found this one. I had to pause and rewind the video a couple times but got my bird trussed up tight. Thank you!
Yay. You are so welcome!
Doing my first chicken this week, in my new Vortex Pro. Very pleased to find this tutorial. Thank you. :O)
Yay so glad I could help. Stay safe and happy cooking!
Thank you so much for sharing, you made trussing look so easy! I have the Instant Vortex Plus, what setting and temperature should I cook the bird?
You are so welcome! I cook mine at 400 degrees F for about 35 minutes, You have to check with a thermometer because it depends on the size of the bird. Happy cooking and stay safe.
Either I didn't measure 48 inches correctly or I didn't pull tight enough or maybe both because I ran out of cooking twine when it was time to flip the bird over and start tying it. My Mom cut another piece of string for me and I wrapped it again - on top of my other piece, and for good measure I roped it around the middle and through the legs with the pieces I'd originally cut off to tie it before I came to RUclipsrs for help on how to tie a whole chicken for the rotisserie. The good news is it all worked. My chicken didn't flip, flop, or fall off the bar or forks. It turned and cooked through. Thank you for the lesson; it really helped me.
Oh, and mine is a different type of machine to the two you demonstrated for yet it worked the same for me.
Hi Lana I have a question about which pan to put in when you make it rotisserie chicken or when you bake. We have been using the Cooking pan a lot underneath the baking rack when we air fry and I’m not sure if that’s the way to use it. Also for a rotisserie chicken I am not sure if I should put the Cooking pan underneath or not. Can you help me?
Hi. So if you watch my video I'll link here, it will show you my trick for placing foil on the bottom and covering the heating elements. It works great however, you just need to make sure you use a mode that doesn;t turn on the bottom heating elements. lanaunderpressure.com/2019/12/13/how-to-rotisserie-a-chicken-over-4-lbs-in-the-instant-omni-omni-plus-vortex-plus/
Love you ideas and how to do it
The chicken spatters all over the oven and it cooks on. The interior doesn't "wipe clean" when the juices are burned on.
Can you cut out the backbone completely and tie the bird back together with elastic ties and rotisserie with legs and wings attached?
Hello! I'm writing a recipe for a rotisserie chicken in my new blog and was wondering if I could embed your video in my post? I used your video to learn how to truss and I didn't want to reinvent the wheel so to speak. I'm new to blogging so was unsure if it was acceptable to embed your video without permission.
Hi. Welcome to three crazy blogging world, lol. Absolutely you can. Thank you so much for asking. :)
Thank you for the instructions!! I’ve had my Omni Plus for nearly a year, but I’ve been intimidated to try the rotisserie. Now, thanks to your video, I’ll give it a try!! 💜
Yay I am so glad. Happy cooking and stay safe.
Thank you for this video. I've been watching to learn more about the instapot vortex, before I invest. I'll be getting one next week. I look forward to watching more of your informative easy to follow videos!
You are so welcome and I am glad I could help. You are going to love it! I use both of them almost every day. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out any time. Happy cooking and stay safe.
Hey Lana, great to see you back... very helpful video. Very useful. The plastic bracket holder for the rotisserie striped, so i'm going to have to return the vortex. i like the size and the fact that in the Omni its metal. Thanks again for turning out great videos.
Thank you so much Clari! You are doing such a great job on your videos. I love them. I have heard that the bracket has broken for some people. I haven't had an issue at all so I wonder if it was a certain shipment? The great thing is IP customer service is really great and helpful. If you don't mind not having a basket, I suggest the Omni if you have the space.
Just purchased Vortex Plus. This video is very helpful
Hello Lana. Love your video. You make cooking and preparing very easy with the Vortex Plus. I got one for Christmas and can hardly wait to use it. Keep you video’s coming. Thank you so much.🌹
You are so welcome and hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and a Blessed New Year!
After watching several other "instructional " videos, this method of trussing seems WAY over complicated.
Ok. That's the great thing about the interwebz, lots of free tutorials and you can pick the way that works best for you.
Thanks for the video! I bought the vortex around Christmas and I am going to attempt my first whole chicken today. I am less nervous about it after watching you!!
Oh boy I am so glad I could be of help. I would love to know how it turned out. It's one of my favorite things to make.
Super examples. Thank you for sharing.
What is the largest bird you can fit in the vortex pro?
Omg!! I have the rotisserie and the chicken but not the twine 😑
Even three years later your video on trussing a chicken for rotissering is helpful. I have an old Showtime Rotisserie Machine and was looking for a better way of trussing the bird. Thanks.
You are so welcome!
Hi Lana - Gosh I'm all over the place! Got a Question. Maybe you folks have a micrometer or a decent precision ruler. I'm wondering about the size of the rod the Omni uses for the rotisserie. I saw one video of yours where you stated that you wished the fork parts had 4 tines. I have found some on Amazon as well as a possible candidate for a steak/fish/sausage cage. The only drawback is that I don't have my Omni yet ( Coming this sat) So I can't get these measurements myself. I am currently looking into various accessories and ordering them so they will arrive with the Omni. So far I have a pizza stone, and while there is a cheaper rotisserie basket than the items you linked us to. I am holding off on that as I just ordered a new Le Creuset Non-Stick pan. The 4 tines though! That would be great! Could it be 5/16ths?
Hi! Sorry it took me a few days to get to your comment. I went back to teaching high school math to help out in my community with the lack of teachers for remote learning and it really cuts into my time. I apologize. I don't have a micrometer, but I can say the accessories I buy that fit the rod have an opening of 6 mm which fit perfectly. So I wouldn't go with any accessory hat has an opening much smaller that that. This is an old video and after making it, I did find a fork with 4 times. Just remember that the rotisserie can only hold 4 lbs total, so you have to take into account the weight of the forks. I found that the forks I ordered were almost 1 lb and so it reduced the amount of food I could cook. Hope this helps and again sorry it took me so long. Happy cooking and stay safe.
Does this unit need to be seasoned?
Do you mean like a cast iron pan? Nope.
Can you bake bread in the vortex plus
Can you describe the proofing process for dough in the Vortex Pro? There was no info for doing this, but it says you can. I know you can do proofing and bake in the Instant Pot, but I would like to know about the Vortex Pro if you could inform me of this process. Thanks
Hi. I don't own the Vortex Pro since it came out recently and I don't have the money or the space to get another one. However, it's probably like the Omni Plus proofing mode. The proof mode goes as low as 90 degrees F. I will say since it's the same size as the Plus, there isn't much room so you are going to have to use a smaller bowl or a loaf pan without handles.
First time doing a chicken in my vortex got it trussed but missed one step going around the thigh and leg. Did get legs crossed over and tied. This made it so easy
Yay I'm so glad I could help!
Hi Lana I did the rostisserie chicken and smoke all the way. The smoke coming out of the Omni was crazy.
Also I put a 7 pound chicken and it couldn’t turn around. I just saw that we can not rostisserie more than 4 pounds.
Hi. Yes I say in this video that both the Vortex and the Omni can only hold a maximum of 4 pounds. I say that at time stamp 1:30. However, you can cook larger ones on the baking tray. I like to start with three breast side down and then flip. :)
You sound like the actress America from sisterhood of the traveling pants :)
Would a 4.5lb Chicken be ok? Im making one for Thanksgiving and wanted to make sure!
Haha I get that a lot. :) As for the weight, it has to be under 4 lbs. However, I have a video on how to do a chicken that is larger. If you cut off the wings and thighs and cook them on the bottom, it works great.
@@LanaUnderPressure awe man I wish I had seen this! Guess what didn’t fit?? 🤣 We roasted it in the oven instead. Anyways I love your videos :) take care and thanks for responding and helping me out!! I watched your truss skills and they helped alot!
I just subscribed. You explained it perfectly. I’m standing here with a Cornish Hen. I’m not a fan of chicken but these I do like. Like not love. I’ve had a rotisserie before but this one is new. I just confused as to the temperature and which settings I need to hit. LoL. I’m going to give this a try. Thank you. 👍👍💚
SUPER HELPFUL!! Thank you!! I just unpackaged my instant vortex plus and getting it all set up and trying to figure out what to make first!!

Oh wow, thank you so much! Happy cooking and stay safe!
Thank you! Your video really helped my fit my chicken in my air fryer!!!!
Yay I am so glad!
I just bought a instant pot Omni toast oven. I cannot find recipes for it! Do I follow any recipe for ovens and dehydrators?
Hi! I have lots of recipes on my blog. But you can make just about anything cooked in an oven, in the air fryer. A good rule of thumb is to lessen the degrees by 25 and decrease the time. Here is a good oven to air fryer converter. www.airfryercalculator.com/?fbclid=IwAR1ZBYV70RjJ2tfNPGXLUTTlhysGxUxRiKAir5SABfLZE8IbbUmsGtTOY7w
I just bought it yesterday. Your videos are so helpful!!! Thank you!!!

Oh I'm so glad. Happy cooking.
This is my favorite way to truss a chicken: Culinary Schools | Tutorial: How To Truss A Chicken. Yours looks good too.
You know...the back of it
I wish I had seen this before I attempted my first chicken in the vortex. It turned out delicious but I spent as much time getting it on the spit as I did air frying it.
Thank you so much
Thank you!! Very informative and helpful.
I am so glad I could be of help. Stray safe and happy cooking!
What is the cooking time and what cooking mode did you use for the rotisserie chicken?
Hi. I used Roast mode in both ovens and it was 400 F for 42 mins. It was a 4 lb chicken. Check the temperature at 40 mins to check for doneness.
Thank you.
I subscribed.. Lana is not a robot and her content is real the real deal.
Nope not a robot here, lol. Thank you so much Al and happy cooking my friend. 😃
Thank you so much, this was awesome, liked and subscribed
Thank you so much!
Truss chicken roast
You don't put any trays under the chicken?
Hi. In the Vortex Plus you always use the drip tray that comes with it. In the Omni, the drip tray is always inserted however, if you check out my blog entry on how to rotisserie a chicken larger than 4 lbs, I show you a trick to place foil over the bottom. That's usually what I do now.
Was waiting for this...picking up a chicken this week.. Yum.
Yay! Enjoy. :)
Or you can throw it in the buggy at Costco.
Sorry it took me a while to get to your comment, I went back to teaching full time.
Thank you for your kind words. I would love to know if you made one and how it went?
Hi. What is the name of the brand of the stainless oven behind you?
Hi. The one on the counter? That's the Instant Omni. You might not be able to find it since now they sell mainly the Omni Plus but it's pretty much the same.
Hi. Thank you so much. I just order the Vortex from Macy's last night. I am try it. I will be in touch to let you. I like the size of the Instant Omni as well. I will look for it later today.
Thanks again, and be safe.
I was wondering where you were ❤ missed your videos.
Awe thanks! I had a family emergency and was out of town. I realized a good idea would be for me to make a few videos at a time and just have them saved for when I can't make a new one each week. Also, this video was a beast to edit and shoot so it took me longer than I expected, lol. :)
Hope everyone is ok now.
@@melonydever You are so sweet. We are doing ok. Thank you so much.
Go team vortex
Do you use the air fry or roast mode?
Great question! Witht he Omni and Vortex Plus, I use Roast mode. In Roast mode in the Omni the bottom heating elements don't turn on so I can place a piece of foil and cover the bottom and the heating elements and this is so helpful with cleaning. If you have the Omni Plus you have to use Air Fry because Roast does turn on the bottom elements.
I did it for the first time today. Unfortunately my chicken wasn’t spinning :(. I think I did something wrong. I ended up placing it on the tray instead.
Oh no. It could have either been a weight issue (too heavy), you didn't press the rotate button if using a function other than roast, or the rod want in the housing all the way.
How long is the twine before i cut it?
It depends on the size of your chicken, and longer is always better than too short. I usually use a 28 inches.
Thank you!! Excellent video and easy to follow.
Great information
Is there a recipe or how do we know how long to cook it for?
Hi. When I made this tutorial, I realized I didn't add the recipe because I was focusing on the how of it. lol I cook mine on Roast in the Omni and Vortex for 45 mins at 400 degrees. Of course it depends on the size of the chicken, so always take the temp at about 40 mins and add a little more time if needed.
@@LanaUnderPressure thank you so much
I bought a chicken where the butcher used it's own skin to keep the legs together. So I thought I'd cheat and just tie the wings down. No matter what I did, it wanted to fly away. One wing kept coming loose. lol Since we don't have 3 hands, what's the trick to getting the string to stay tight while knotting it? Thanks for the video. Next time I will follow directions. lol
Oh no, lol. The flappy wings afte the hardest part. You can always cut the tips of the wings off.
@@LanaUnderPressure I was tempted to but didn't. lol I had less trouble feeding it on the spit than tying it.
@@suemarie6032 It is a bit of a tricky thing, but each time you do it it gets easier. I am not a professional cook at all. Up until 4 years ago I hated cooking. lol
@@LanaUnderPressure You certainly do professional videos. I can't cook but the 6 qt Duo I bought 2 yrs ago makes me feel as though I can. lol I'm sure it will get easier, but I thought I'd be sweating putting the bird on the spit and that only needed one tiny adjustment horizontally. Havin" fun! Thanks for all your hard work..
@@suemarie6032 Thank you so much! It means a lot that you appreciate the look of my videos. My son is s whiz at video editing and photoshop and he taught me the basics of it and I spent a lot of time watching tutorials. These videos take about 2 hours to film (I am kind of a perfectionist and I redo shots so many times, lol. Plus it's just me.) But then they take about 5 hours to edit and upload and I am never really satisfied with the end result. Thank you for the lovely compliment. :)
Hi, Lana. I watched yours first as it came up first. Then went and watched several others.
The main difference between your trussing and the others was your method brought the wings right up against the body. Whereas the others, although bringing the tips around behind, nonetheless still left the wing loose, which would, it seems to me, allow them to cook faster.
Although your method is a little more involved it seems a much better one. Thanks.
Awe thank you. I agree, I learned the Jukia Child way but as you said it suess leave the wings loose which is fine for the oven, but not good for the rotisserie because they flop and and tend to hit the heating elements.
Do you put it on roast or air fry and temp and time ?
With the Vortex Plus, the air fry and the roast function work exactly the same. The only difference is on air fry you have to press the rotate function and on roast it starts automatically. With the Omni, both are also very much the same. However, with the Omni Plus on Roast, the top and bottom heating element come on so I usually don;t use the roast function with the Omni Plus when I rotisserie because I like to cover the entire bottom of the oven with foil for easy cleaning But you can't cover the heating elements with foil if you use a function that turns them on.
Hi I bought my friend and instant omni like to know where can I get extra racks for dehydrating she likes to do that for her dogs treats. An what's the best way to clean her omni.
Hi! What a nice gift. I just use a Norwex cloth to clean my Omni. You can use a sponge and baking soda and vinegar mix. They also say you can use light oven cleaners for tough spots too. Amazon is a great place for extra trays but as of now you can't buy extra racks that fit.
@@LanaUnderPressure I think the lack of extra parts is due to recent demand. I had to call Instant Appliances because my Omni neither toasted (well, it would brown after a 4 minutes preheat, and 8 minutes of toasting on level 6), nor did it preheat anywhere close to 350 on the bake cake setting. It only got to 275 degrees). The very nice lady I spoke with agreed there was a problem and told me to exchange it. I asked about the racks, she said they hoped to have spare parts soon. In the meantime, I am going to have my husband cut a strip off one of my oven safe cooling racks so that will slide in. It won't be angled at the end like the original rack, but that doesn't matter to me. Do you see any possible problem with my scheme?
Good news is that the second Omni did preheat to 340 so I will just let it heat an extra minute or two before placing my cake inside. Still can't figure out those other videos showing it toasting away in the allotted time. Like you, I have pulled my toaster back out!
@@deliajaquette2424 I think that sounds like a great idea. And I'm so glad you're new one worked. 😄
