This video is exceptional! It’s by far the best visualization of our Solar System. The music was so calming and not too distracting. The explanations of time and space, and how everything needs to be put into scale just to actually get an idea of just how massive space is was amazing. I loved this video. Thank you for taking your time and effort to make such a well crafted video with quality.

There's another great video by ogniank, "Riding Light", with real-time speed of light traverse through the solar system. If it was shown in this video, you'd only reach the earth. It's 45 minutes long, and only reaches Jupiter. If it carried out to Neptune, you'd have to watch a 4.5 hour video, with almost nothing in it. To Voyager, would be a 22-hour video, which has reached the boundary of solar radiation; the true end of the system.

I am totally astounded by the quality and accuracy of this video. Really? It's full of mistakes.
First off: Venus is shown rotating far faster than its solar orbit , when they are actually almost the same with Venus having a day longer than it's year.
The stuff about mercury orbiting so much faster than Neptune doesn't correlate to the image shown. Why does mercury speed up and Neptune slow down?

    • @TheSpacePlaceYT
      @TheSpacePlaceYT Год назад +21

@@listerofsmeg884 The first point makes a bit of sense but it wasn't intended to be perfect. The second point literally explains itself. Mercury orbits so much faster than Neptune, so consequently, Mercury would speed up and Neptune would slow down when comparing the traditional model with a model depicting time correctly.
"Full of mistakes" is not what I would call it. Your comment has more mistakes than the video, so stop acting like you know what you're talking about.

You can clearly see that from the inner four planets, the sun looks quite large with a certain extention, but from the outer planets (Jupiter and beyond), the sun looks just like a distant star at the night sky. By the way, the music strongly resembles the orchestra style of famous film composer John Barry, especially at 5:50 and later. It could e.g. be from the thriller "Body Heat" (1981) starring Kathleen Turner and William Hurt. Or, more known, from the 007 movie "Moonraker" (1979).

One thing, though. I've been quite fascinated for a while with how slow the speed of light is considering the astronomical scale. In that sense, the "flight" between planets is actually way faster than the speed of light. For instance, the distance from Earth to Jupiter is 39 light minutes and 32 light seconds. I guess that strolling the solar system at warp speed is a bonus.

I've seen a lot of videos comparing sizes of planets, but I don't think anything can capture the reality of just how small we are like distance can. The sheer distance from the Sun to Eris is nuts, and the fact that our little blue world is a tiny speck somewhere within that distance is rather humbling. In the grand scale of the universe, we really are quite insignificant.

The "100d = 1s" bit lasted about "4 years", during which Neptune should have moved about 4/165, or roughly 9 degrees of arc. Maybe I'm just really bad at visualizing 9/360, but it didn't even move with the width of the cursor in that time, and far more than 10 of those cursors would be needed to fill in a quarter-segment of it's orbit on my screen.
Seriously though, awesome video, it's crazy how hard it is truly conceptualize the mind-boggling sizes of the objects and yet the even more mind-boggling distances that make the large sizes seem meaningless.

It's utterly rewarding to watch these well-made renditions. You have heard about an outer gas giant needing hundreds of Earth years to go around Sol, but you seldom - if ever - are realistically presented how such long periods compare to the shorter years of the rocky planets (0:40ff). Greatly eye-opening is how Jupiter and Saturn suddenly become hugely big, when their diameters of over 140,000 and over 120,000 km are taken into account. I've never felt so clearly, before, how appropriate it is to call such a body a giant (1:20ff).
I wonder if there is an inaccuracy concerning Venus, in the video. Venus - although, after all, shown with her inverted rotation - looks like she was rotating much too quickly, in the rendition for the real temporal relations (0:55ff). She needs longer (243 Earth days) to rotate around her axis than around Sol (225 Earth days). Perhaps there are meant storms rather than the planet's rotation, but winds in Venus' upper cloud layers are noted in the scientific literature as blowing westward. Venus' north pole pointing away from the North Star, this means that if such winds were meant, in the rendition, they'd seem to be shown as blowing in the wrong direction. Could it really be that "east" and "west" are exchanged, in the literature, when it comes to how they relate with the north and south of such a planet of a north pole pointing elsewhere than most other ones in a star system?
_Eris_ (7:34ff) is defined at least by NASA as _inside of_ the Kuiper Belt. NASA defines one _scattered disk_ as a part of this belt.
It also might be of some interest that you in English mostly use the singular of "hundred", "thousand", "million", "billion", "trillion", etc., if such a number occurs after another one which counts it.

I plan to, but it is quite long and complex. Was thinking of breaking it off into several tutorials, just ot keep it nice and clean... !

It's so intriguing how distant planets orbit around the same sun as we do.

you left my favorite: size to scale and distance to scale but those scales not the same, because both size to scale and distance to scale are some what easy to visualize, but they are very different, so both at the same time is imposible with the same scale, the wikipedia page has it and I think it is very usefull, but in general it was great

Only 557k views? This needs 7 Billion views!!! Beyond amazing...Thank you for showing how far and vast the universe surrounding us is thus how small we are ....We are merely a speck of dust! I'm humbled by this. Thank you again.

Very cool. You could have also shown thier "up & down" trajectories as well and their orbital pattern, as those are better represented with 3d effects. I always thought that was cool.

This is what I call a worthwhile trip! Stars bend the fabric of space so deeply that they capture a vast amount of objects. I can only imagine what the star Betelgeuse has captured that hasn't burned up in its near-death expansion.

Wonderful graphics. However, I saw in another astronomy vid that Jupiter had over 70 moons. Third, the 48 negative ratings must be flat earthers, whom I call Flatties. Last, at my first viewing Mr. Schickel only has 601 subscribers. I predict he'll have 601,000 by the end of April. Here's hoping sooner.
