I think baroque trills are usually meant to be at least 4 notes, even though I've heard performers use 3 notes when the music is fast or complicated.......there's also the trill that is tied to the preceding note a diatonic step higher, which I guess there might only be 3 notes since the first is tied to the preceding higher note....I think it's called the 'pralltriller' in german but i'm not really sure......Also some composers have their own notation for ornaments and specify in a table of ornaments how they intended it, like Rameau using a little parentheses thing (I think it's kind of like a prolonged mordent, or an appoggiatura, depending on which side of the note it's on......DON'T quote me on that though).
This was very interesting. I didn’t know there were quasi rules on trills. Just wondering, how do you think the trill beat the beginning of the Bach Brahms Chaconne should be played? I don’t have the music here. It is about 4 lines down on first page.
I'm not that far along in piano to know what ornaments stands for in piano music. I play in level 2 A, if in case you want to explain that will be helpful. Just starting to learn Beethoven.

Ugh! Czerny - what a waste of time.
I know everyone needs to make money. But the posting of a succession of "VIP class samples" is a little off-putting to me.
