Michele, Your videos are the best I have seen. I have adapted several of your teaching techniques to my classes. My classes demand that students come 3 days in a row to learn the game. After the first day, I ask them to look at your videos for reinforcement of what they learned on that day. Great job!
I thank you for sharing this to the western world. and I am now teaching our kids who were born there in the states on this game. and it was the only time we can set together and chat about their daily life.
I have a future video idea for you. If you happen to have multiple tile sets or a collection of tiles or all the mahjong equipment you've collected through the years and kind of show us and talk us through recommendations or suggestions on what we newbies need to purchase, etc.. That would be tremendously helpful. I've gone online and see windmarkers, chips?, sticks? rugs or carpets for tables?, soft bags vs hard carrying cases, etc...etc.. Anyhooo...I just thought it would be a cool idea to have a little video on the subject of Mahjong equipment. Thanks, kiddo. 🤗
I like your video. Your instructions were very easy to follow and understand. I know it's hard to get that camera angle right without having an assistant. However, you did a good job explaining the game. I can't wait to see your other lessons. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience with those of us who are beginning to find this game and need the extra help when we are away from the playing table. Thank you.
I've only just begun with RUclips so I'm doing the best I can with what I have. I've been investing in equipment to improve my videos but it will take time. Thanks for your input and patience :)
Thank you very much dear Michele for this very clear and neat explenation of the Hongkong ruleset, I will show these lessons to my fellow students in Mahjong learning here in Malmö Sweden.
You started out with them laying down...which was visible but changed to vertical...which was not...too bad. Loved the explanation but confusing on account of not being able to see what it was you were demonstrating.
Your title mentions : Hong Kong Mahjong but your video details mentions : Cantonese style using Hong Kong scoring. It is not obvious for a new learner to understand the difference.
Cantonese mahjong is the foundation of all Asian versions. These videos are Cantonese style with Hong Kong Old Style scoring. mahjong.wikidot.com/rules:hong-kong-old-style-overview
Sorry about that. This was one of the first videos I made when I launched my channel in 2017. At the time, I didn't have a mic nor lighting. I have learned much since then! I will be reproducing this series later this year :)

Thanks, Valeri! I'm so glad the videos are helpful to beginners and teachers! You teach hong kong style?

Thank you! I'm so happy that the videos are helpful :)

I know this video was posted 2 years ago, but what a great, clear, explanation! (We call them "Balls" rather than "Dots," but who cares ;)
Thanks! This was one of the first videos I made. I didn't have a mic nor lighting so I will be creating a new series soon :)
What’s the difference between this and Classical Chinese Mahjong?

Thanks for the input Sylvia! I have a buying guide but it has just a few videos goo.gl/QLYZVf
hi there, was looking at the videos and see that this one has the old HKOS reference doc. not the 2018 one
Re-filming this playlist is in my pipeline but until then, I replaced the links in all the lesson videos so they point to the new quick reference.

Ditto. Echo the words Thank you.
Thanks very clear n precise instructions
I am a new learner. Is there a listing of the order in which to watch Michele’s videos? There are so many, I’m confused as to where to go first
Which version are do you want to learn?

I'm sorry you had trouble seeing the tiles. These videos were filmed when I first launched my channel in 2017 and will be refilmed this summer.

I pronounce 上,碰, and 槓 the Cantonese way, but my mom said it the way you do.
I don't speak Cantonese but parrot terms I've been taught :)
That's not a canton set that a Hongkong set. The bamboo 1 is different.
Thank you. However, i can't hear you even with my volume on High.

You could use headphones, that helps. For me volume even without headphones was good 😀
Too much exposure
This was filmed before I had lighting and a microphone. This entire playlist will be re-filmed shortly :}
