    If in a thickened surface squamous epithelium, one sees squamous eddies and kertain pearls and a very mild dysplasia , does the presence of squamous eddies and kertain pearls make it a SCC-in-situ? or, can the squamous eddies and kertain pearls be seen in a squamous papillom aor Seb keratosis?Thank you.

    What is the significance of painting the 'base' of skin biopsy specimen?

    • @JMGardnerMD
      @JMGardnerMD  3 года назад +1

      The ink shows that it is the true surgical margin. Sometimes it can be hard to tell true margin vs artifact from tangential cut. However, I personally try to avoid giving margin status on shave biopsy specimens for BCC and SCC because you cannot reliably see all of the margin. This paper explains: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27116089/

    Any tips on how to recognize a squamous eddie from a keratin/horn pearl? (I believe parakeratosis in the center can be seen in both?)

    • @JMGardnerMD
      @JMGardnerMD  3 года назад +3

      Squamous eddies are swirls of keratinocytes within the epidermis. They have no orthokeratosis or parakeratosis inside of them. They are made completely of intact keratinocytes. This video may help ruclips.net/video/0VDDZ_HyNeY/видео.html

    Thanku sir for this video! Can u please make a video on " true horn cyst vs pseudohorn cyst"?
    How to differentiate them both?

    • @JMGardnerMD
      @JMGardnerMD  3 года назад +2

      Pseudohorn cyst (or Horn pseudocyst as I call them) are what you see in seborrheic keratosis. But I don't know what a true horn cyst is. It is not a term I ever use.

    • @ankitapatil8679
      @ankitapatil8679 3 года назад

      Thanku sir for the reply! I found that term in one of journal on seborrheic keratosis, will share u the link here. But I didn’t get the difference between them.

    Sir...is keratin pearls only seen in squamous cell carcinoma?

    • @JMGardnerMD
      @JMGardnerMD  4 года назад +1

      Well I guess we only use the term “keratin pearl” when referring to nodule of keratin in SCC. But I’ve seen similar appearance of keratin aggregates in other things both benign and malignant.

    Dear Dr.
    The color problem of your microscope is due to light path issue.It will be resolved with condesor,diaphragm and light focusing lens adjustments.

    • @JMGardnerMD
      @JMGardnerMD  4 года назад

      No in this case it was an issue with auto white balance setting on the camera. I have a new camera now so hopefully will not have this issue again.
