@@joshmorri5on455 Seriously... the lineup with Alain and Natasha is _so_ underrated, by so many people. _Songs For The Deaf_ made me a big fan of QOTSA... Let's take a moment to appreciate the fact that these guys started most of the songs on this tour without count ins yet they're in perfect sync on the first beat
Dave Grohl is so solid playing the drums. The way he hits drums, the tempo, the fills... precise, creative and powerful. One of my favorite rock drummers.
@@toke7342Really? 😱 I had no idea!!1!1 In all seriousness, look into him a little more. He’s a drummer first. He’s talked about how he sees the guitar as a drum kit, low notes as kicks and higher ones as snare and cymbals. He’s just an all around incredible musician, but a drummer foremost.
@@toke7342 No I know all that, I’m just saying that musically, he considers himself a drummer much more than does anything else, even if he does much more.
Fuck yeah! I would have been amazed if he'd managed that whilst using his left foot to keep the hi-hat going with the right hand the way he does in the album version, but it takes nothing away from what he manages in this performance.
@@janche4595 Not sure what you're referring to, I don't hear any hi-hat chicks on the album either. I'm sure he could do it though, it's not that hard.
@@SuperSoulsaver As someone who produces, mixes, and masters his own music, I assure you my audio gear is just fine lol. Again, I don't hear any hi-hat, just a tambourine in the left channel, which, yeah, I would agree is probably an overdub. Theoretically, it could be one of those tambourines you mount on top of the hi-hat, but then you would also hear the actual hi-hat chick when playing it with your foot and you'd probably see Dave replicating that part live. And no, playing 8th notes with your left foot while you're also playing 8th notes with your right hand is not only not impossible, it's not even that hard. In fact, many drummers do it automatically without even thinking about it.
Mark Freaking Lanegan added such a great change up with his whiskey, cigarette voice. They are missing that these days; but still great as always. Miss Nick too
Yeah man, not to disrespect the guys in the band today, they are amazing players, but not exactly big personalities or songwriters. Josh doesn't have a counterweight anymore.
The sound was so unique for the time. It still is. No one sounded like that or had the quality of songs in that era of rock'n'roll. Couple that with an all star lineup that included Homme, Nick, Dave and Lanegan when they were young and hungry. Not sure it can get much better.
I don't think Lanegan or Grohl were hungry at all, they just saw how good this band was & wanted to be a part of it & help them out...& i think they did that
Grohl is always hungry, just not for money or fame or anything. He's obsessed with being a musician, which is why he's been in like 5 chart topping bands
Zac Miller god damn man iv been saying the same for years about Dave. He's like the Ultimate fan of music. Why would you want Dave on your record? Well he was absolutely in my top five even before thisbstint with Queens. Tight as fucking nails. The put out a DVD with the first 10,000 releases of Rated R. Have you seen these? They continued to put 3 more dads in a very limited release for the following 2 records. Lullabies and Era Forgetaboutus, it did have 5 songs that were good on that record.
I'm proud and grateful that I saw this amazing line-up in the Melkweg, Amsterdam in 2002. For me, without a shadow of a doubt, the best concert I ever attended. Josh, Nick, Dave, Mark and Troy: THANK YOU!!!!
sam Feast This whole tour was amazing. Lupo's in Providence, RI 2002 was where I saw them lay waste to a crowd of maybe 1200, or whatever the capacity was (it's closed down now) and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to and I've seen a lot bands in my time.
Rock'n'roll in its purest form, no fancy lights or stage production. I was lucky to catch the band later that year in Barcelona, I will never forget how dark it was and the only thing you could see was Lanegan's smoking cigarette.
Anyone who thinks that Dave Grohl isn't one of the greatest rock drummers of all-time needs to listen to this. "A Song for the Dead" is one of the greatest drumming tracks of all-time IMO.
Man, it's beautiful to see how Mr. Grohl beats his drum kit with such passion. Besides, he makes it seem so easy (when it isn't). Even better when it was with QOTSA's killer tunes.
RIP to the legendary Mark Lanegan for sure. In my opinion though Layne would probably take that spot for me. I fuckin hate picking "favorites" like that though lol. Both incredibly unique talents from their time, alongside many others from then too. Something about the 90s-earlier 00s was just so special, and nothing like it will likely ever happen again...Just a magical era for music, and many other things.
Every drummer queens have had has been a beast. Dave is my favorite beast of them but biased as a Nirvana fan. Joey hits hars and plays like Grohl. José is absolutely bonkers with what he did in the Mars Volta and i couldn't have been happier when he came on. Alfredo was awesome on the early stuff and Gene played great on tour. Am I missing anyone? Brant?
Dave always fucks up the intro to Song for the dead. Hes created one of the greatest drum intros of all time...and I guess the excitement and nerves get to him when he plays it live.
The strongest lineup in rock history
Ultimate Queens Lineup.

In ear monitors

this is such a perfect setlist

Their best concert ever and line up
First it Giveth is such a fuckin amazing song. Grohl rips and the riffs are just so good. What I would give to be at this show
I think it's cool that Dave not only recorded drums on the album but also toured the album with them afterwards. The dude just loves to play drums
True, he was born to play drumms
