I terms of timeline the book ends in current 40k. Since in the Fall of Cadia book, Tazyn mentions he left Orikan buried on the planet. So the finale is post fall of Cadia
@@evanmann3447 see even more future book bait, i feel like orikan is none too happy about trazyn ditching him there after all and from what i have read orikan can really hold a grudge lol
I would bet quite a lot that Robert Rath knew exactly what he was doing. He is part of the Extra History channel and does not seem like the type to accidentally roommates.
Probably the worst part of getting nabbed by trazyn isnt "oh get in the time cube and never come out" its "get in the time cube and every time i wake you up you'll get tossed into the arena or some random hellish situation but dont worry about ever dying i have really good medics"
@@gatordragon6140 It's just a joke about how Trazyn doesn't really care that much about specificities. It doesn't matter if you're from the third company or the fifth, or if you served a thousand years before the battle diorama; He'll make do with what he has
This book was such a revelation to me. I would never have thought that necron, of all creatures, would be so deeply and heartbreakingly concerned about the harm to nature and culture (which are the same thing). Trazin is an OC that I've always dreamed of creating, but lacked the skill. He is ideal, seriously interested in preserving and cataloging history and biology, at the same time he is ready and does not hesitate to drag away everything that is not nailed to the floor (and what is nailed will drag away with the floor). The greatest loot rat.
Yall need to cover the twice dead king books. They're more necron centric books that really go into how the necron dynasties function and interact with each other.
Holy !@#$, that holodeck idea could be incredible - it wouldn't do much for the rest of 40K, it would just be a sideshow, but there's SO much fun that could be had with that.
Damn, I’m 2 hours late, I missed the notification. Thanks for the 2hr vid. I see you and raise you one ‘cya in the previous one Ava’ (I’m catching up rn). Always happy to hear from Kari regarding 40k, especially as it’s been akin to introducing many of my friends and gf to it. Glad to hear from the amazing Alexpert. And cheers for the intro to Paige
In fairness to humanity: they wouldn’t be in this situation if their robots didn’t rebel, exponentially rise in psykers appearing and FTL travel having become impossible for few thousands years, followed by a rebellion that devastated the imperium when it was relative enlightened causing it to back pedal hard. Now the first three are out right eldars fault, including the rebellion of the men of iron if certain theories are true. The last point they had a hand in when some of them and some others decided they could make humanity self destruct and starve chaos. Aka use humanity as a sacrificial lamb to fix a problem they let fester/caused, depending on how you look at it. I am not excusing humanity’s failures, but eldar and necrons are not faultless in all of this.
Necrontyr society was already messed up, and we see how stunted Necron emotions are after losing their souls. I’m hesitant to even say they’re capable of having romantic feelings in general anymore
If we got an I&D sequel they would almost certainly be fighting each other because of the necron civil war going on in current lore between the Sautekh dynasty (Orikan’s dynasty) versus the Szarekhan and Nihilakh dynasties (the silent king and Trazyns dynasties)
Hearing Trazyn and Orikan being called an old gay couple was unexpected, and you know what? I can understand where you folks were coming from, and I can accept that as one interpretation of their dynamic. Also, I just wanna say, the moments where you folks were shouting the authors name startled me while I was listening to this the other night as I was drawing something meme related, because I share a first name with the author of the infinite and the divine, so thanks for startling me! I hope you're happy with that feat!

i didnt read this , but im at work where I listen to audio books , there's just way to many 40k books got into it because my favorite liveing scifi writer Adrian Tchaikovsky did one
I really hope you get around to doing Day of Ascension on your book review some day. Maybe add it to your wheel after you do the Genestealer cults episode of Explaining Warhammer.
Ava here! No, I just travelled to Canada to visit Kari and Alex and definitely caught a bad cold on the way. Kari was sick with another cold before I brought mine haha. We’re recovering though!!
I read this book completely differently they seemed like coworkers that do different jobs at the same company like architects and engineers but they respect how good the other is at their job. That being said they definitely take things too far a lot and anyone else who worked with them would just kinda get used to one of them getting punched every once in awhile
This is not my own opinion, but I want to lightly push back against The Infinite and The Divine being the perfect gateway 40k book. A little while ago, I found a book club podcast that has nothing to do with Warhammer. While the hosts didn't dislike the book, they felt like it didn't explore its most interesting sci-fi concepts beyond the surface level. The final battle being a fanservice fest with all da' boys you recognize was also a turn-off, since not even being at gateway watched-one-video standing with 40k means that part does nothing for you. Although I am not an expert on any Warhammer books, from what I've heard, the Twice-Dead King line may actually be more palatable for an outsider audience. Just based on things I've heard, though.
Ew, trench crusade mentioned. Mark my words "world War, but it's Christian holy crusades" sounds like the loudest dog whistle. I don't like the nazi wargame
I will assume good faith and reassure you that the creators have done a lot of work to eject the sort of people who would project that mindset on the game. They're in it for the imagery and alternate history, not for the tradcath fanwank or whatever. The alt/neo nazis who once celebrated that game have entirely changed their tune on it despite its success, because the creators told them to gtfo
Luckily the developers of Trench Crusade have been very vocal they do not want piece of shit nazis as part of their fanbase and told them to gtfo this isn’t their weird power fantasy.
As i remember trench crusade had some toxic rumors about itself... And as german i find it really terrible that everybody screams "nazi" nowadays, it loses its threat and only plays in the hands of such people. I know the Left needs such boogiemans but please dont normalise such things.

The whole fact they were on a timeframe to open the tomb at all is ALL BECAUSE Trazyn pranked Orikan is absolutely funny

funny enough trazyn can make his ``stasis-cube`` capture you in stasis and making it so that you are fully aware of the time passing.
"Don't worry about ever dying" and the next time you 'wake up' you have an entirely new arm sewn on from a person you will never know...hopefully
@@Umbragecko god thanks thats even more terrifying

To me the book read like the 90s movie Grumpy Old Men which makes the fact they are still pranking each other at the end very appropriate.

A few people still aren't happy about the Necrons becoming Tomb Kings in SPACE but it's this kind of story that shows how awesome the faction is.
Exactly, what the guy above me said.
