Thank you for making this videos. I’m preparing for a whole restoration on an 83’ camaro berlinetta and these videos are gold.
How did it take me so long to find this?! I think I’ve watched every LS swap video on RUclips. This whole time there’s a playlist of someone swapping my exact car.
Can’t wait to see it reassembled 🔥
Wow what a big step 305 tbi to Ls 5.7 . I went 305 tbi to 350 tpi 6 speed . I wish I could have done the ls path but had to save money for the paint job to. Good content I'll be watching excited for your build!
350 tpi with a 6 speed is still a fun ass car. I kept the TPI because everyone and thier mommas are doing LS swaps. Nice to keep it original looking.
At it again with yet another great video. Can't wait to see it when it's all done.
That was a hell of a tear down. I'm completely a rookie when it comes to this stuff. I have a 91 z28 I would love to LS swap. Good luck!
Nice! Something ive been wanting to do to my car.
Thanks dude! I’m trying to do this soon as well
Glad to see this is happening! I’m doing this soon as well.
Sweet, this is exciting, great choice with the 100 lbs weight savings block, and being from an original F body, virtually all the accessories "should" bolt back on and fit. Look forward to seeing this transpire. Thanks.
the ALu LS block is about 100lbs lighter, but the entire engine compared to the 305 is nearly 300lbs!
@@3rdGenGuy Wow, I guess I never realized it was THAT much overall, all hail the mighty LS! Congratulations!
Me at 4 am thinking how can i put a LS on my dream car. Thanks alot ima get a lot of help from you
Satisfying for sure
Moh Powah Baby!
Exciting to see you doing this but would be way better with voice over explanation. Rock on!
This is exactly what I am doing with exactly the same engine as you... would have been nice if you mention what that sensor where as mine was missing...
send me a time stamp from the video.
like if the sensor was at 1:10 or something
@@3rdGenGuy 8:56 the 2 at the back and one on the side. Thanks for this.
@@puggsincyberspace the two on the back are the oil pressure sending unit (tall one), camshaft position sensor (deep one), the two going down the center are the knock sensors. I'm not sure which sensor you're talking about on the side.
Are you by chance selling any of the old parts your not using?
What bolt did you use to get that leverage on the cam? Was that a head bolt?
some random bolt I had.
it's a M8 thread on the cam bolts.
you can also just use a long rod or dowel.
@@3rdGenGuy thanks
Why would you ever get rid of the good ol' 305 TBI?!! ;)
@Memento12 A lot more! 😁
Do you have to notch the crossmember "if you have a truck oil pan?"
don't use the truck oil pan, it sits too low. 1 good bump and your pan will be gone.
another ls swap..
I have to catch up with the 17 Trillion 350 swaps that have been done since since 1968!
What headers did you use?
I went with the Holley long tubes, but my exhaust isn't made yet.
so I can't comment on them yet.
You sure its an 01? 01 and 02 didn't have EGR.
it's not EGR, but some sort of air system.
i hadn't seen one like it before.
block # is 2001 ls1 and it has the LS6 intake.
good enough for me.
About how much did you get the engine for?
It was $3,020 missing a starter and harness.
Unfortunately any aluminum block LS is gonna be 2x the price.
A 5.3L would be around $700 all day.
@@3rdGenGuy this is something I have been thinking about doing. I'm more intimated with the wiring. Since I have a 305 I'm probably going to either a 350 or 383.
@@Mr.Noisewater wiring up a 350/383 is about the same level of difficulty. With a standalone harness all the wiring is taken care of except the gauges (about 6 wires) the only other things are constant and switched power for the PCM
@@323spy just I never done nothing like this before. So of course never done it before and watching videos of people failing miserably it's kind of intimating.i know I'm excited to do it though.
@@Mr.Noisewater we've all been there. I stared at my 305 engine harness for a good month before cutting a single wire. Once I started it was easy though. Basically you just need to keep the purple starter wire, the wires that feed power to the fuse box and a couple of sensor wires to get the gauges working with the LS sensors. Check out lsxmatt and badluckgarage here on RUclips. They have videos on LS swapping f body's. Things will make way more sense after watching them and 3rd gen guy work through the swap.
