Interesting topic. I've long been of the opinion that, if you stand for nothing, you'll fall for anything. So as far as the all-too-popular notion of opting out of political matters, whenever someone coolly proclaims "I don't do politics", I think it's wise to remind them that speaking up and speaking out is ultimately our only defense against the dangerous excesses of would-be authoritarians. I find the whole attitude of politics being benign "as long as it doesn't effect me" to be the very embodiment of, at best, an aloof sort of moral laziness, and at worst, an outright culpability and complicity with a lot of the evil shit in the world. As for religion, I'll just say that from childhood onward, I found the whole enterprise rather constraining and devoid of any real thirst for tackling the greatest and most interesting mysteries life has to offer. I like to pose questions that perhaps no one can answer, whereas religions tend to only provide answers which they claim should never be questioned.

Wading into deep waters there 😂but I agree with everything you said. I am not sure the situation will ever change though. Humans are just like that. Some are givers and some are takers. some are doers and some are just plain lazy. It all starts with education. If you don't provide the information at an early age you end up with where we are now. Speaking for myself I am not religious although I was brought up Catholic, but being educated I soon saw through all that. Political, definitely. I don't think anyone can moan about the state of the country if they opt out of the process. Take part, get involved, and at least try to improve things.
