  • A playthrough of the sub-boss Pazuzu in Yumeji's boss hack for Mutant Fighter/Death Brade
This game was a request by the user Ariel Vazquez.
    ------------------------------------------
Download this boss hack from my MEGA. You'll need the original rom as well to make it work, however:

    -----------------------------------------
The sub-boss of the game is the insufferable Pazuzu, also known occasionally as Demon for some reason. Despite being referred to as a demon (and even being the name of the demon in the film The Exorcist), Pazuzu himself is one of the oldest recorded demon concepts in existence, stemming from the ancient Assyro-Babylonian civilisation, where he was said to bring famine and plagues of locusts to an area around what we term nowadays as The Levant. We're talking about 4000 years ago in this case, which is pretty crazy to think about, though I suppose the concept of angels and demons themselves is a couple millennia old anyhow. It's a pretty obscure reference to say the least. Despite generally being depicted as a sort of bird-man-demon thing, he originally was more what we term now as a Chimera, being depicted with various different parts of certain animals, although for some reason his gargoyle-esque image continues to be the most popular depiction of him. I won't deny that the only reason I even knew about him was from an episode of Futurama.
Pazuzu is a chore to play as, and certainly a chore to fight against. The fact that one of the bosses of the game, doppelganger, takes on the form of the character you're playing means that a whole 10 minutes of the video is devoted to mirror matches. Slow, painful mirror matches, which take far longer than they should. Pazuzu is when you really begin to see the cracks in this game. The two biggest problems of this game are 1. that the lifebars increase after every level, making matches drag far longer than they should, and 2. its overemphasis on grappling. A similar issue to many other wrestling or grapple-focused games, the main problem is that 90% of the time the opponent will win in the case of a grapple. And as melee attacks do very little damage, and dash attacks and melee attacks can be blocked, that means you'll always be reliant on grapples. Which means you have to effectively purposefully fail and slog through grapples just to get a few throws in. Which means you will have to keep pumping in money in order to beat the game. It's unapologetic in this way, and I can't stand it. Pazuzu is just as frustrating as every other character for the simple reason that the AI, regardless of the character they use, will nearly always have priority over you. Even playing as the melee bosses of the game (Pazuzu, Hydra and Doppelganger), the game still ends up as a complete slog fest, which is a terrible sign. Thank god for SFII coming along and cleaning up these terrible gimmicks. The only real saving grace of Pazuzu is his awesome rushing attack, where he temporarily turns into a phoenix of sorts as he charges into the opponent. His design is pretty great too, I should add.
Next up, the Hydra. Bonne nuit to you all....

A quarter a piece? Damn, well done. A hell of a lot more than I could ever do with this game, that's for sure.
If you do want to play as the bosses, this boss hack is in the description of this video. You can use it with any version of mameui.

@@catisreckless4647 ...didn't i say WITH a partner? Me as Werewolf, him as Minotaur, a feat bathed in quarters lost to the Doppleganger; until we learned to switch up. You MUST play as a team, jumping the ai whenever the opportunity presents itself. hey with a time machine perhaps you could witness the weekly event. PEACE family.

@@cookieDaXapper Okay. I still don't believe you. Not sure why that hurts your feelings so much. If you did it, then you did it.

Glad to see you're still watching, always a pleasure to speak to you. And yeah, the game really doesn't live up to its own name, it must be said.
Sorry for not putting up that Guilty Gear tutorial, by the way, I've been so busy lately. I'll try to have it done and uploaded by Saturday.
