Fully agree. It,s been too long. More Classic 80s Metal please. So many to choose from. Savatage, Armored Saint, Vicious Rumors, Lizzy Borden, Leatherwolf, Metal Church, Loudness. The list is endless. More attention to Classic 80s Metal. They did Caught in a mosh actually.
I'm in a band and opened for Joe Belladonna, met him personally (diner and hanging out), he's the most humble and respectful and too this day STILL can sing amazing. Much love from a Musician.
Anthrax was New York thrash while the other three were California-based. They were heavily influenced by New York hardcore. Slayer was influenced by more DC and California based hardcore bands. Metallica and Megadeth were much more into NWOBHM bands like Diamond Head, and classic hard rock like Budgie and Sabbath, but punk influenced them as well. Anthrax had the only trained singer of the four, and that made them stand out as well. Anthrax were also much more open to rap than anyone, paving the way for rap-rock crossover. They put out a rap-metal hybrid song called I’m The Man. If you check it out do the Def Uncensored version. There’s like 4 or 5 versions out there now.
Budgie are so underrated. They were an influence for so many early metal bands. Lol I've been asking Brad and Lex for ages to check them out to no avail.
It turns out Dave Mustaine was a big Budgie fan and he might have turned the others on to Budgie in the first place. Megadeth did cover Melt The Ice Away as a bonus track to an album a while back.
There are books about the subject, but New York hardcore was a lot different than punk scenes in other cities. NY hardcore was hardcore hardcore. As it grew it had a lot of metal sound to the guitars, but they used to beat up longhairs that came to their shows. It was only as time wore on and hardcore bands naturally grew more metallic as they learned how to play that hardcore and metal fused into Crossover like DRI (not from NY) that everything sort of blended together. Thrash used to mean hardcore punk, and thus thrash metal became metal with thrash roots. Scott Ian and Charlie Benante from Anthrax formed a hardcore/thrash project called Stormtroopers of Death which was huge back in the day. The singer Billy had a hardcore background and the bassist was old Anthrax member Danny Lilker then in thrash metal band Nuclear Assault. They were a lot of fun but would probably be too un-PC today, plus Billy’s a maniac.
You were correct... Anthrax is a thrash metal band, but vocalist Joe Belladonna (who is native American) is more a fan of Journey and Whitesnake, rather than metal bands like Venom or Judas Priest. He joined in 1984 after they had fired their original singer Neil Turbin... Belladonna had never heard of Anthrax and showed up at his audition wearing a glam rock outfit 😂(He didn't know what kind of band they were... he thought he should 'look the part'... and he got the job and ditched the outfit!)
Scott Ian is married to Pearl Aday her dad was Meat Loaf. I loved when Anthrax was on Married With Children and they ate the mystery package that was in the refrigerator.
Been a while since you guys listened to some thrash metal. The lead singer Joey Belladonna is native American on his mothers side. Anthrax sort of brought the east coast hardcore influence to the big 4 and then later Anthrax did crossover stuff with rap groups so you could say they influenced nu metal.
Finally some Classic 80s Metal. It,s been too long. Great song. Anthrax never disappoints. One of the big Four that needs more attention. For more Classic 80s Metal you should try Savatage, Armored Saint, Leatherwolf, Vicious Rumors, Lizzy Borden, Metal Church, Testament, Loudness, Fates Warning, Helloween. The list is endless.

I saw Anthrax at least 4-5 times in the 80s, they opened for a lot of the bigger bands back then - Clash of the Titans tour in 1990 - Slayer, Megadeath, Anthrax, and... Alice in Chains, what a way to exit the 80s and bring in the new decade. If you want some more 80s metal check out Exodus.
After I first head Metallica in 1985 Anthrax was the next thrash band I discovered. They have a song, I Am the Law, based on a British comic book character, Judge Dredd, and I was into comics at the time so I checked it out. I've been a huge Anthrax fan ever sense. I'm going to see them with Black Label Society and Exodus, another early thrash band, it's Kirk's first band before Metallica, next weekend. The third time for their current album For All Kings.
Anthrax ( along with Faith No More, Primus, RATM, and others ) was kind of an influence for future bands in the nu metal genre (rap/punk/metal fusion). Anthrax were popular in the '80s and'90s. Part of the New York/new Jersey crossover punk/metal thrash scene along with Overkill, Nuclear Assault, S.O.D., M.O.D., etc. East coast. They also collaborated at times with rappers back then from the east coast (Onyx, Public Enemy/Flavor Flav, etc). Check out more of Anthrax stuff! Also part of the Big 4, they toured many places together over the years. . Anthrax was more of the fun, goofy, versatile band compared to the others (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer).

Joey Belladonna's voice is what makes them unique. Unlike alot of other metal vocalists, he can actually sing. Glad they got him back. Anthrax just wasnt right without him.
Saying that Joey Belladonna can "actually sing" is a bit much, he's not a particularly talented vocalist, he just does clean vocals in a fairly average (bland) way. Especially on this song, he has no aggression in his voice whatsoever, which is an awkward fit for thrash.
I saw about four years ago, they were awesome. Joey sounded amazing. I actually went to the show to see the opening band Death Angel, but Anthrax was the best man that night.
One of the 1st gigs I went to as a teenager, almost 30 years ago. Was absolutely fucking mental & I loved every minute of it, feet barely touched the floor the whole time 😂
Not sure who was influenced by Anthrax specifically but I will say their duet with Public Enemy covering PE's song Bring the Noise, fueled a lot of the Numetal you saw coming towards the mid/late 90s. Aerosmith and RUN DMC was a precursor with combining artists from the genres but where as Aerosmith was rock, Anthrax was metal.
That moment at the end when Lex has that epiphany about the Big Four being the Big Four, not because they are all heavy thrash, but because they are so distinctly their own flavour of heavy thrash, was delightful. There were a lot of other great trash metal bands around at the time, several of them are still around, but the Big Four are the creme de la creme, a cut above most of even the other top bands. The whole among the living album is great that is their best album. They had some good ones state of euphoria time persistence of Time and a few others, but among the living is their gold standard.
This is Anthrax most popular song. The Big Four of Thrash Metal: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax are like the equivalent to LL Cool J, Eric B. & Rakim, NWA and Public Enemy in Rap/Hip Hop. They invented Thrash Metal one of the most influencial and popular styles of Metal music in everything that comes after 1983. And Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motörhead and Iron Maiden who invented Heavy Metal (1970-1980) are like the equivalent to The Sugarhill Gang, Run-DMC, Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa in Hip Hop.
Always liked Anthrax, but got into them later than most. Their earlier albums didn't mean much to me, but State of Euphoria and Persistence of Time were great. Belly of the Beast is a killer song.
If you haven't checked it already, check out the Anthrax/Public Enemy colab of Bring the Noise. ruclips.net/video/1d2ABH64-Dw/видео.html PE name-checked Anthrax in the original song, which (I expect) lead to the collaboration.
If there ever was a good rabbit hole to go down, the Anthrax one is a good one! "Keep it in the Family" (live), "Bring The Noise", "Who Cares Wins" and "Startin' Up a Posse" are my picks for great reaction songs. BTW Charlie the drummer is the current drummer for Pantera right now.
here ya go, Brad. the lyrics: Lyrics We all see in black and white When it comes to someone else's fight No one ever gets involved Apathy can never solve Forced out, brave and mighty Stolen land, they can't fight it Hold on to pride and tradition Even though they know How much their lives are really missing We're dissing them On reservations A hopeless situation Respect is something that you earn Our Indian brothers' getting burned Original American Turned into a second class citizen Forced out, brave and mighty Stolen land, they can't fight it Hold on to pride and tradition Even though they know How much their lives are really missing We're dissing them On reservations A hopeless situation Cry for the Indians, oh Die for the Indians Cry for the Indians Oh cry, cry, cry for the Indians Love the land and fellow man Peace is what we strive to have Some folks have none of this Hatred and prejudice Forced out, brave and mighty Stolen land, they can't fight it Hold on to pride and tradition Even though they know How much their lives are really missing We're dissing them On reservations A hopeless situation Cry for the Indians Die for the Indians Cry for the Indians Cry, cry, cry for the Indians War dance! Saw this tour in Santa Monica, CA. It was crazy as hell - they were on fire at this point, musically, and some of them were skating ramps during the show. Kirk Hammet came on for the encore and they played Anarchy In The UK, by the Sex Pistols. P.S. Yes, of the 'Big 4' thrash bands, Anthrax definitely had the most conventional vocals.
Awesome reaction!!!! It’s about time someone did more Anthrax reactions….the Among the Living is a classic. Try “Caught in a Mosh”, “Efilnukifesin(Nice Fuckin Life)”, “I Am The Law”, the title track, “A Skeleton in the Closet”, and everything else. So BADASSSSSSS 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽💩
saw them live here in Los Angeles last year. Man when they came out after all that build up with the drop screen.. we could barely breath when that pit started. what a SHOW.
Anthrax music got me through Army basic training. I love their music and enthusiasm. You HAVE to listen/watch their song "Madhouse". It's the song that reeled me in hook, sink and lure. Such an awesome song. Thanks Brad and Lex for what you do. Good luck with the baby. :)
Been waiting for you guys to do this one for a long time. Brings back memories of 6th grade, listing to this tape on my friends Fisher Price cassette player. 😆 Good times!
This whole album is great. Skeletons in the Closet is awesome and ADI is one of their most underrated songs. Anthrax had tangential ties to the NYHC scene which has some slight influence on their music. Spreading the Disease is another great album by them.
This song is great live, especially the WAR DANCE part. I saw them for the umpteenth time last September and as usual they were brilliant such a great gig. Lots of age groups, due half fans like me from the 80s and young ones like my 19 year old son and his girlfriend. It was just a fun, happy and respectful of each other gig.
"I am the Man " "Antisocial," "In the End," "Blood Eagle Wings", and everything from the album "Persistence of Time" are great for Joey Beladonna era Anthrax reactions. "Packaged Rebellion," "Inside Out," and nearly everything from "Sound of White Noise" from the John Bush era are worth a reaction too.
You need to listen to songs off of the album and Fistful Of Metal with Neil Turbin at the vocals. Then you’ll understand why they’re in the big four. That was the first anthrax album I bought and it’s hard!!
Anthrax was the very first thrash album I ever bought. And of course the Idians tshirt which I wore all week when I visited Canada. I must have been around 14/15 I guess. Brilliant band. Saw them not even so long ago in Belgium. That bass running down your spine. Hell yeah War Dance !!
I don't know if you know this but Charlie Benante is an incredible musician in general, Scott Ian considers him to be the best guitarist in Anthrax...he also composed the majority of their music...
ANTRHAX is One of the great 4 🔥🤘🔥example of the Big Influence of Native American Roots who is the Rutts of Rock and Blues,Heavy,Hard...all come from the Real Americans Native check on NETFLIX the Movie RUMBLE🎼🌅🎩🎸🎶🎶🎶🏜check out AMONG THE LIVING and ANTHRAX influence Hard Core Punk and Scott Ian have some influnece in HIP POP to check out the Music video😈 I'M THE MAN🫨🫨🫨👺
I skipped school took a few friends to NJ. They invited fans to the making of this video. so sick. they had to call the fire department to control the crowd
Their singer is indian and it is about what american indians have gone through in America if I am not way off. Amazing cool song with strong lyrics. I have met the entire band and they are the nicest coolest guys
Wife here.., WOW.., I have to admit Anthrax was a little hard for me back in the day..(I was Glam Metal).., ALOT of my Friend's were huge fans!!...They had alot of Energy and Quiet a Social Concious..And those Vocals..Their own lane for sure!!!
Ah the glam vs thrash wars in the fan mail pages of Metal Edge, lol. Kudos for saying glam metal. Everybody says hair bands these days as if it didn't already have a name.
@@ericsmith6615 I had so many old issues, but sadly they were destroyed in a flood. I used to buy it every month in the mid 90s when I was a teen, and bought the 80s issues from a flea market.

As much as you enjoy Joey's vocals, he split with the band for awhile after the Persistance of Time album. They managed to get John Bush to join (from Armored Saint, and the guy Metallica wanted to sing for them in the beginning). Still great music, but the tone certainly changed (part of why they changed vocalists to begin with). Joey came back for a reunion and has been back with them since.
Anthrax vocalist Joey Belladona came from a background of much softer rock and was a huge Journey fan (for some reason 🤷♂️). It is his more melodic vocal style that differentiates Anthrax from the rest of the Big 4.
anthrax is my favorite of the big four exactly because they’re so unique i’m pretty sure the other three are out of california anthrax is out of nyc i think that has something to do with it some of their albums imo were poorly produced imo including the album indians is on rhythmically and lyrically they are SO different from the other three persistence of time and state of euphoria are my favorite albums i love among the living but there are serious production and performance flaws euphoria just rips it’s clean persistence is more complicated songwriting wise but charlie’s drums sound weird on some of the tracks they had two singers fired the first hired the second and rehired the first 20 years later seems to me the main 3 members are a bit pig headed what i’ve heard is they fired joey their first singer and he came back to them even though they said that he wasn’t good it’s pretty fucked up euphoria is a top 20 album for me i recommend a track from their b-sides album attack of the killer b’s that was recorded during the euphoria sessions it’s a cover of a song from a french metal band named trust the song is called sects it’s so fucking tight it rocks so bad thanks guys 💙💜
WOW! Anthrax doesn’t get enough LOVE! So glad y’all did this song! This is part of the BIG 4 of thrash. Most Anthrax songs take a couple of listens to get them especially this album because they are really thrash. Super fast and heavy but very melodic if you listen. Just fast melodies😏

Would recommend reacting to Antisocial (or something else off State Of Euphoria). Antisocial was the heavily played Anthrax song during the history making Headbangers Ball tour with the Big Three (Metallica wasn't a team player at the time).
So I don't remember the year but Anthrax decided to give Joey Belladonna the boot. They brought in the lead singer from another great band named "Armored Saint" who was just as heavily influenced by the New Wave of British Heavy metal as Metallica and Megadeth. They all started out at the same time and played mostly the same clubs. Metallica and Armored Saint were good freinds. The singer of Armored Saint was John Bush and John had been recruited into Anthrax. The very first album he did with them called "The Sound of White Noise" is phenomenal. I highly recommend you to check out the song "Only" by Anthrax with John on vocals.
FINALLY!!! A metal song. The soft rock and classics have been dominating too long. Caught in a mosh now please
Agreed!! They actually did Caught in a Mosh already though. How about I am the Law?
Fully agree. It,s been too long. More Classic 80s Metal please. So many to choose from. Savatage, Armored Saint, Vicious Rumors, Lizzy Borden, Leatherwolf, Metal Church, Loudness. The list is endless. More attention to Classic 80s Metal. They did Caught in a mosh actually.
Need some Overkill or Sodom
Needs some Xentrix, Mortal Sin and Annihilator
I mean…this is basically soft metal. But I like Anthrax, they’re so good live. Saw em last month
Among The Living is an awesome album front to back.
It was the first album I ever bought. I was 10 or 11 max. It is an excellent album!
loved it as a kid...Can't really listen to it today...Their newer stuff is better and you cant say that about any of the big four.

I have photograph frpm 2011 Sauna Open Air festival where i hug with Joey. He´s a great dude.
Just sayin' he absolutely ruined the Big 4 "Am I Evil?" performance. That was fucking embarrassing to watch.
When Joey isnt busy with Anthrax, he sings in a Journey tribute band covering all the classics.

Joey's half native, half italian.
Joey Belladonna has First Nations heritage and this song resonates today, as per Indigenous peoples in Canada.
Scott Ian is married to Pearl Aday her dad was Meat Loaf. I loved when Anthrax was on Married With Children and they ate the mystery package that was in the refrigerator.

"Keep it in the Family" (live), "Bring The Noise", "Who Cares Wins" and "Startin' Up a Posse" are my picks for great reaction songs.
BTW Charlie the drummer is the current drummer for Pantera right now.
starting up a posse would be a terrible reaction song! hahha nobody reacts to that for a reason! hah
@@the.wayne.b All the more reason to do it! Heck they've had much worse on this channel.
They actually did Bring the Noise already
Starting up a posse... 😆 seeing a reaction to that would be awesome.
I'm the man or NFB
@@VoidR i think the world needs some anthrax starting up a posse hah
here ya go, Brad. the lyrics:
Lyrics
We all see in black and white
When it comes to someone else's fight
No one ever gets involved
Apathy can never solve
Forced out, brave and mighty
Stolen land, they can't fight it
Hold on to pride and tradition
Even though they know
How much their lives are really missing
We're dissing them
On reservations
A hopeless situation
Respect is something that you earn
Our Indian brothers' getting burned
Original American
Turned into a second class citizen
Forced out, brave and mighty
Stolen land, they can't fight it
Hold on to pride and tradition
Even though they know
How much their lives are really missing
We're dissing them
On reservations
A hopeless situation
Cry for the Indians, oh
Die for the Indians
Cry for the Indians
Oh cry, cry, cry for the Indians
Love the land and fellow man
Peace is what we strive to have
Some folks have none of this
Hatred and prejudice
Forced out, brave and mighty
Stolen land, they can't fight it
Hold on to pride and tradition
Even though they know
How much their lives are really missing
We're dissing them
On reservations
A hopeless situation
Cry for the Indians
Die for the Indians
Cry for the Indians
Cry, cry, cry for the Indians
War dance!
Territory, it's just the body of the nation
The people that inhabit it make its configuration
Prejudice, something we all can do without
The flag of many colors is what this land's all about
We all see in black and white
When it comes to someone else's fight
No one ever gets involved, no one
Apathy can never solve
Forced out, brave and mighty
Stolen land, they can't fight it
Hold on to pride and tradition
Even though they know
How much their lives are really missing
We're dissing them
On reservations
A hopeless situation
Cry for the Indians
Die for the Indians
Cry for the Indians
Cry, cry, cry for the Indians
I just seen them over the summer celebrating 40 years and they still sounded amazing live
Anthrax is one of my favorite thrash bands
You guys need to see the live performance in Chile, the war dance part is insane
If you listen to another Anthrax song you should listen to "I am the Law", it's a song about Judge Dredd. Good stuff.
Anthrax is part of the big four with Metallica, Megadeth and slayer
saw them live here in Los Angeles last year.
The bald dude with the goatee, Scott Ian was Meat Loaf’s son-in-law
MOSH PIT!!!!
Loved the reaction! I wish you could find the album versions of the videos. I was confused when the beginning was chopped up. LOL
See some of the live gigs on line ‘wardance’ .. a tad mental . ‘Keep it in the family’ is a great tune they have
Yall should also check out "Who Cares Wins". My personal favorite song is "AntiSocial"
Got the Time.
they did a car song back in the days,( metal trashing mad) a banger,🤘🤘🤘
40 years and still killing it!!!
You need to listen to songs off of the album and Fistful Of Metal with Neil Turbin at the vocals. Then you’ll understand why they’re in the big four.
That was the first anthrax album I bought and it’s hard!!
i agree, great covers on it ,sabbath, and cooper.🤘
Anthrax was the very first thrash album I ever bought. And of course the Idians tshirt which I wore all week when I visited Canada. I must have been around 14/15 I guess. Brilliant band. Saw them not even so long ago in Belgium. That bass running down your spine. Hell yeah War Dance !!
Yeah!!!!!!!!
"Black Lodge", "Packaged Rebellion", "Only", "Hy Pro Glow" are awesome by Anthrax
Poison my eyes
Black Lodge is a great song!!
That whole album is 🔥
@@vinceruland9236 agreed.
Having John bush from armored Saint take over the vocals was very different, but I liked it, but it just reminded me of armored Saint
I don't know if anyone knows this but Charlie Benante is an awesome drummer
I don't know if you know this but Charlie Benante is an incredible musician in general, Scott Ian considers him to be the best guitarist in Anthrax...he also composed the majority of their music...

2005 Anthrax Medusa live
Wife here.., WOW.., I have to admit Anthrax was a little hard for me back in the day..(I was Glam Metal).., ALOT of my Friend's were huge fans!!...They had alot of Energy and Quiet a Social Concious..And those Vocals..Their own lane for sure!!!
Ah the glam vs thrash wars in the fan mail pages of Metal Edge, lol. Kudos for saying glam metal. Everybody says hair bands these days as if it didn't already have a name.

ANTHRAX... POISON my EYES is the best!
So happy Joey's back. John was okay, but for me, Anthrax was a bit less Anthrax without Joey.
A lot of nu-"metal" bands were influenced by Anthrax, the retro-thrash or as I call em - pizza thrash - bands of the past 15 years or so were as well.
One of their best I think!
Anthrax vocalist Joey Belladona came from a background of much softer rock and was a huge Journey fan (for some reason 🤷♂️). It is his more melodic vocal style that differentiates Anthrax from the rest of the Big 4.
*(ahem)*

DROKK IT!
.
Thank you.
Crazy that yall do this one. I pulled up this very album yesterday and was riding around jamming to it for the first time in forever.
🤘😝🤘 omg I was 17
One of my Favorite THRASH BANDS !! TOP 5
🤘🤘
Awesome reaction! One of my favorite Anthrax songs! They have a lot of good songs. You might have to go down the Anthrax rabbit hole.
anthrax is my favorite of the big four exactly because they’re so unique
i’m pretty sure the other three are out of california
anthrax is out of nyc
i think that has something to do with it
some of their albums imo were poorly produced imo including the album indians is on
rhythmically and lyrically they are SO different from the other three
persistence of time and state of euphoria are my favorite albums
i love among the living but there are serious production and performance flaws
euphoria just rips
it’s clean
persistence is more complicated songwriting wise but charlie’s drums sound weird on some of the tracks
they had two singers
fired the first hired the second and rehired the first 20 years later
seems to me the main 3 members are a bit pig headed
what i’ve heard is they fired joey their first singer and he came back to them even though they said that he wasn’t good
it’s pretty fucked up
euphoria is a top 20 album for me
i recommend a track from their b-sides album attack of the killer b’s that was recorded during the euphoria sessions
it’s a cover of a song from a french metal band named trust
the song is called sects
it’s so fucking tight
it rocks so bad
thanks guys 💙💜
Brad, in one sentence you got the rockers. The music makes us want to hear the words. Might miss something profound? Likely.
Saw these guys live back in 1990, opening for Iron Maiden. They were awesome, almost as good as Maiden themselves. 🤘✌❤
Seeing these guys next month with Exodus and Black Label Society 🤘
Caught in a mosh
they did it.

Speed metal, but with the iron maiden Dickinson-esque vocals 👍👍
Yesss!
Wait till you hear their original singer Neil Turbin🤘 they did a badass cover of The Beetles-Im 18.
When Among the Living was released, I banged to that album non stop and still know just about every word. Huge hit for Anthrax. Great band.
Would recommend reacting to Antisocial (or something else off State Of Euphoria). Antisocial was the heavily played Anthrax song during the history making Headbangers Ball tour with the Big Three (Metallica wasn't a team player at the time).
great tune great band!
Bush almost became Metallicas singer.
@@gamleskalle1 And Armored Saint Bassist Joey Vera was asked to join after Cliff Burtons death.
Known as one of the Big Four of Thrash Metal:
Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, and Metallica.
Anthrax were east coast, the other big 3 west coast, big reason why their riffs are just different...and Joey definitely sang different.
Keep it up! Best reviewers all-time.
Anthrax has so many good songs
