    Nudes have always been a part of the art scene since the beginning. If you view minis as a form of art, and I do, I see no problem with including some nude figures, both men and women, to the table, as long as it tells part of the story.

And yes, i'd be fine with someone 3d printing their own cringey stuff, if they want to ogle at naked female models. But, if your playing a game with strangers or semi-strangers, you should be following basic morals and propriety. Such as bathing, dressing cleanly (not slovenly), not using overt sexual models. The model shown is a good mix of nudity and propriety, lots of action. It shows off the deamonette's charms without being gross, and showing its a daemon of lust. the model quality could be better, but if it was a different pose it could be gross. But, this model was tastefully done. I would like to see more of models above, we got plenty of gore and grim stuff, lets do some scantily clad stuff, but tastefully; not too much to be overwhelming but change the pace.

    I'm of a mixed opinion. Should a model like this be the main option if its meant to appeal to a wider audience? Probably not, but you'd be surprised by how many people don't mind sexy models but it certainly SHOULD be an available and easy to access option. Part of the appeal of Warhammer, to me, is just how over the top it is and the old daemonettes kind of embody that in a way the new ones don't. The new ones certainly don't feel like anything someone might actually be attracted to in any way at least. To say the hobby has evolved past models like these is, to me, to imply that these models are somehow bad or distasteful just by nature of their design...and to be honest, that's just a stance I don't agree with.
    This is simply a change, neither better or worse on its own. To me, its worse but it might not be to you or others.

IMO the current models have gone a bit too far towards the "Mutated and awful" look, which doesn't make so much sense for the core Slaanesh things of sleekness, elegance and being the very best (like noone ever was).
      There are good Slaanesh daemon models. The Masque and the Infernal Enrapturess for example. They don't need to be made of bewbs, they just need to have less of the Chaos Undivided all horns and claws look to them.

      @@saeyabor How is it a political invasion for women to not like being objectified? Overt NSFW content is not a core part of the hobby. The hobby is about painting, collecting, and fighting armies against one another. Not showing how the female characters have big breasts.
      And what do you mean by an invasion? Are you so afraid of women playing tabletop games that you think they are some hostile occupying force?
      The 40k/AOS/WHFB hobby ought to be open and accessible to anyone who wants to collect and paint minis, and fight them on the tabletop in the grim darkness of the far future, or in the Old World. To claim that people shouldn't be allowed in if they object to sexualisation of female characters is like claiming that DnD should be limited only to those who meet the stereotype of the 1980's DnD player.

    • @mxviii
      @mxviii 3 года назад +12

      @@ILoveDemocracry You're making a lot of assumptions here. I dont see where anyone claimed the hobby shouldnt be open to all. Its pretty damn open to everyone. I also dont see where one set of models being overtly sexual somehow gatekeeps the ENTIRE warhammer universe from women. Thats a little much. I dont see how you can really accuse Games Workshop of objectifying women in the first place, they have no history of making "sexy" females. It is a bit sad that one faction of the game is relatively ignored because they cant really make any models to theme without offending someone. Whether the models male or female, or both, which Androgyny is a big part of Slaanesh, the whole faction is gonna make some people clutch their pearls.
      In that regard I agree with what Saeyabor is saying. The game is open to everyone, theres a faction for everyone. But If someone is turned of from the ENTIRE universe because one small faction has boobies, we should probably just let those people move along. Its like saying I dont read books because sexy romance novels exist. Or I dont watch movies, because some of them have boobies in them.

    what I like to do with face-based model slippage is to hide it by making a half-mask that covers the most damaged-warped side of the face. It's fiddly work but it helps to hade imperfections in the model.

  • @venkelos6996

    Personally, I miss these more NSFW models; maybe I am just a greasy old nerd. Still, if Slaanesh wants to be the God of Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll, this helped. I'm not a big fan of current Slaaneshi mini themes.
    As for your work, I think this turned out great! I really do like your colors choices, and think you did a fine job. As silly as this will sound, I think my favorite bit, though, is the tail. I think you did a marvelous job blending the two pieces together, so it looks, to me, like they were always a single, sculpted piece. I don't see any gapping, or a faint trace of the seam. I'm sure it's just a skill I lack, but it's nice on your Steed.
    Thank you for sharing! Like I said, I sometimes miss these old minis. I know the quality of sculpts has improved over the years, through plastic, pewter, and resin, but I got into the hobby in 3e; back in the early 2000s, and my friend who introduced me to it mained a Noise Marines army with some of these, so even if I'm a greasy need, nostalgia.

    You know the face having its wonkiness works pretty well with a bit of headcannon. A bit of warp instability is affecting the face of the daemonette,the conflicting desires of the various individuals watching it charge at them causing it to warp and distort. To some weaker minds it sports a near angelic face of desire,while the stronger willed see a glimpse into the abyss that is the excessive cruelty that comes from serving the prince of excess.

    Nice paintjob. Realy fabulous.
    On the subject of "The hobby has bacome more Mature now". I disagree. It was a better time back then. Quality/tech was cruder, but it was more free and open. Would argue it was more mature back then, then today where everyone is afraid to express them selves, walking on eggshells, getting offended, triggered and anxious about almost anything, and not talking about gatekeeping and cancelation if you try to express it. And whats more mature about gore, grim dark, agony and murder, compared to artistic/splendid nudity? Whats up with that?
    Well, cheers.

  • @jherazob

    Fantastic job on this model!
    I do have to say that it is a very unique americanism to focus so much on nudity. Were they artbooks for anything not related to a wargame and/or of the arts in general no one would say much (well, almost no one, the deeply religious and/or conservative will always complain but who cares?). The fact that americans in general are so worried about this and not about dismembered corpses, gore and violence is always so odd to see. And in these minis is not even the main focus, these minis have a grace and style that no current GW models share, dare i say in any faction. I'd love to have an army of these if i had a chance.
    And nice summary on Juan's models, he is a good dude, since he's a friend of the owner of my local game store we tended to see him around once in a while before the plague. Have seen him model stuff and he's *GOOD!*

    • @Andersonzabuza
      @Andersonzabuza 3 года назад +3

      And these days the conservative probably wouldn't complain about them either (though the deeply religious would), it would be the more liberal minded. Even as an American, I can't tell why we fixate so much on nudity/sex appeal being bad but have no qualms about over the top violence being glorified. It never really struck me until I heard about other culture's viewpoints either that I went 'wait...yeah, that is kind of weird isn't it?'.
      Honestly though, that model looks good and it feels unique to GW models and especially WH 40k models, which is a good thing. I look at it and I get all the important information. Sleek and fast, subtle danger, and a hankering for violence wrapped up in a lust/feminine package. I look at the new Slaanesh models and I don't really get any of that, I get much more of a 'pink/purple Khorne demon vibe' which is not ideal to be honest. Plus, for something you're supposed to look at and see something appealing until its tearing your guts out, aka Distracted by the Sexy to use trope speak, I can't imagine looking at any of the current Slaanesh models and going 'man, can't wait to get them to bed ddjdkdagkj my gutttts!' cause their design clashes so oddly with their intent. Even in a 'supposed to focus just on what you find attractive' lore perspective, there's nothing attractive about them, they completel miss the androgynous mark which, weirdly enough for Juan's models, is actually there. I mean, remove the chest and you could just as easily have a feminine looking guy or a fit looking woman.

    • @ArmandDupin

      This is what happened with every decision made throughout GW history. The reason why they don't make xenos anymore is because xenos don't sell as well as they used too (mayhaps because GW itself started the whole Spahs marheens circeljerk).
      It's pretty obvious that AS became their own army (as opposed to a footnote in a codex) when GW realized there actually was a market for female space marines.

      I think GW proved to itself, again, that it can make any of its races sell well provided they give them proper support with Sisters of Battle. Prior to the 8th ed release the entire range was more or less from 2nd edition outside of the vehicles and Celestine, they were nowhere to be seen on the tabletop. Since then they've become one of the most popular factions with their range refresh.
      Space Marines have always been favored, it's not something recent, every single edition they had the most releases and the most subfaction rules. Even back in 2nd edition there were 4 loyalist Space Marine factions. You're telling me that they can make Sisters of Battle cool, but they can't make Eldar cool? I do love the Diaz Daemonettes (and anything by Juan Diaz for that matter). Best minis ever? Nah. Fan-service for sweaty nerds? Sure. But to me they use the ‘333’ rule of miniature design/painting to play into the model’s lore in an interesting way, which IMO makes them better than the crab-claw and modern plastic interpretations.
    There are variations to the 333 rule, but in general, it states that a good mini will grab your attention at 3 yards, wow you at 3 feet, and then blow you away at 3 inches. The Diazmonettes use this rule and our monkey brains to great effect - At 3 yards you notice the lithe shape and exposed skin so you go in for a closer look. At 3 feet you start ogling the booba. And finally, at 3 inches you horrified by the details: noseless faces, fangs, claws, and that there are actually 3 pairs of booba… you got horny and now your head is getting gnawed off. This deception sells the idea of daemonettes to me, and also reminds me of the very first apostle in the very first chapter of Berserk. I totally understand if someone is put off by them though. They are a cool one-off thing, but I wouldn't want an entire smut-themed army.

I also appreciate that they were actually female while all the other daemons were male. I don't think they're 100% perfect. I think Slaanesh is the only GW faction that really warrants this kind of model because their whole deal is that they're about extremes of pleasure and pain and they're always modelled a bit uncanny and strange, as opposed to just being objectifying.
    I do think it's good that some of the modern line are quite androgynous, as that reflects the ambiguous gender of the god they represent, but having some explicitly male-presenting sexy demons would have the potential to balance things a bit.
    When I see models from other factions trying to do the sexy thing I'm less inclined to accept it as something that this person would wear into battle and that has a lot to do with the art style. Female gladiators definitely showed as much, if not more, of their bodies as their male counterparts but I doubt they looked like modern swimwear models or wore armour that was sculpted to show off their tits and arse.
