  • The LAWYER & The DRAPER are Gideon (The Lawyer) Wagner & Sam (The Draper) Harley. GIDEON has been writing songs since 1968. For the last 12, he's helped defend murderers & drug dealers at the Old Bailey. He plays guitar, sings & records with Sam Harley. He is as irritating & irascible as he ever was. SAM has run the cloth shop for 30 years. He loves fabric, fashion & clothing as much as music & considers him self knowledgable about them all. He plays 8 instruments & has done since childhood. He prefers Bob Dylan to John Coltrane. A Fender man; not Gibson.
Back in 1974, The SWEET's 'TEENAGE RAMPAGE reached No.1 in Denmark, Germany & Ireland, No.2 in UK, Switzerland & Norway, No.5 in Finland, No.7 in New Zealand & Sweden, No.10 in Australia, No.11 in Netherlands, and No.16 in Austria.
    LYRICS
All over the land, the kids have finally starting to get the upper hand
They're out on the streets, they turn on the heat
And soon they could be completely in command
Imagine the sensation of teenage occupation.
    At 13 they'll be learning & at 14 they'll be burning
But there's something in the air of which we all will be aware
But they don't care No No No No So
Come & join the revolution. Get yourself the constitution & join the revolution now
& recognise your age, it's a teenage rampage. Turn another page on the teenage rampage now.
They're getting it on, Ain't doing it wrong but they're gonna do it: it won't be long
They've gotta be heard, They've got the word, they really belong
& now they're coming on strong
Imagine the formation of teenage legislation
At 13 they were fooling But at 16 they'll be ruling
Back in 1973, The Sweet's 'BALLROOM BLITZ' reached No.1 in Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Australia, Canada & New Zealand, No.2 in UK & Norway, No.3 in Switzerland, Sweden & South Africa, No.4 in Netherlands, No.5 in Austria & USA, and No.10 in Finland.
    LYRICS
It's been getting so hard, Living with the things you do to me..
My dreams are getting so strange, I'd like to tell you everything I see
I see a man at the back As a matter of fact his eyes are red as the sun
And a girl in the corner let no one ignore her 'Cause she thinks she's the passionate one
Oh, yeah, it was like lightning. Everybody was frightening
And the music was soothing And they all started grooving
And the man at the back said everyone attack And it turned into a ballroom blitz
And the girl in the corner said boy, I wanna warn ya. It'll turn into a ballroom blitz
I'm reaching out for something. Touching nothing's all I ever do
I softly call you over. When you appear there's nothing left of you
Now the man in the back is ready to crack, As he raises his hands to the sky
& the girl in the corner is everyone's mourner. She could kill you with a wink of her eye
Oh yeah, it was electric, so frightfully hectic
& the band started leaving 'Cause they all stopped breathing. Yeah!
"Ballroom Blitz" was inspired by an incident on 27 January 1973 when the band were performing at the Grand Hall in Kilmarnock, Scotland, & were driven offstage by a bottling. The song was recorded at Audio International Studio, 18 Rodmarton Street, London, & released as a single in September 1973. The song appeared on the US & Canadian versions of Desolation Boulevard but never appeared on a Sweet LP in the UK, other than hits compilations. The initial guitar & drum riff of the song has similarity to a 1963 song by Bobby Comstock called "Let's Stomp".
The 1st cover of "Ballroom Blitz" was by the Les Humphries Singers in 1974, the 1st German single to reach #1 in New Zealand. In 1979, the song was covered by the Damned, which featured Lemmy from Motörhead on bass guitar. It was released as a B-side & featured as a bonus track on their CD reissue of Machine Gun Etiquette. Other covers include Krokus (1984), The Surf Punks (1988), Scanch (1991), Nuclear Assault (1991), Tia Carrere (1992), & Calibretto 13 (2000), & The Struts (2016).
The song has appeared in many movies, including Wayne's World, Bordello of Blood, Romanzo Criminale, Daddy Day Care and The Sandlot: Heading Home. The song was featured in the BBC television series Life on Mars. The words "she thinks she's the passionate one" from the song are dubbed into the Beastie Boys song "Hey Ladies".
Ohi Ho Bang Bang released a 12" single & a CD Video in 1988. "The 3" samples "Ballroom Blitz" extensively, especially the drumming from the intro. Since June 2016, the song has been used in public information films on the subject of smart meters surrounding gas & electricity use in the United Kingdom. The opening lyrics were parodied in THE THE's 1989 song, "Armageddon Days Are Here". The opening lyrics are emulated in My Chemical Romance's 2010 song "Vampire Money".

Ich bin immer skeptisch bei Sweet Cover. Man ist halt mit den Originalen aufgewachsen. Aber die Version ist super! Danke fürs teilen!
