If copper tape is available, I find I works wonders to get rid of slugs. You wrap it around your beds and deters slugs with a zap. The tape is not cheap but lasts years.
I was also thinking this would be an easy fix for raised beds! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Eventually they could probably find their way through... But for the lazier ones, it's a great solution! Put it on before they make their homes in the beds though 😂
I've tried beer traps, copper tape and before I went green slug pellets. All did a bit but there was still a lot of destruction. This year I went by torch light after dark for a week. I went from approx 200 slugs on the first night down to about 10 to 15 on the last. I go every 3rd night now and get about 20 slugs. Very little slug damage now.
I put the lower cabbage leaves about 200mm from plants. Go out late, or 1st thing, collect the slugs below and replace. Last about 4 days. Sure keeps them away from main plants.
I don't have many slugs, but I do have A LOT of snails! I use a wide path of Crushed Granite Sand to keep them away from certain plants. I believe y'all would call it Sharp Grit. As long as the plant leaves don't touch the ground on the other side of the granite sand, they're safe! I wonder if that would work the same for slugs?
Funnily enough last week the strawberries in my polytunnel were mulched with very well rotted horse manure, because I weeded them after goose grass (or cleavers) was overtaking them, even though I had previously put down mulch of bark chippings around them. Lovely video as usual Tanya!
Hello Tanya Lovely Greens. Thanks for the tour in May of the progress you are making. Its all looking great. Hope you have enough time to take a break and watch some of the Isle of Man TT racing . Those guys are crazy . Stay well Tanya, Josh, and Cats . Ride well and safely TT Racers.
Hello Maggie, i use Nematoads you get 10,000 in a sachet you just pour them into your wateringcan. treat the whole bed they will kill the slugs for you i used them last year will use them again this year.
I can't remember if it was Huw Richards or Charles Dowding that used a piece of wood and put that in the garden bed to attract the slugs and then you can come out the next day and remove them. Love all the plants that you are growing this year. Best of luck with the slits.
I'm growing Green Sausage which is also a bush determinate. Remember not to prune off the suckers of the Creamy Sausage as that's where most the fruit will form.
I use cooking oil and soy sauce in a bowl buried level to the ground ,earwigs love it and die, just check the bowls daily, you will be surprised how many you catch, Dave from Australia
You and Josh have done a lot of work!! It looks great! I dont have slugs where I live but I do have deer that ate all of my tomatoes and green peppers last year. They also ate my hydrangea and my beautiful hollyhock blooms...I was sad about those. Maggie makes me laugh 💖
My aunt in Indiana has a large veg patch and the deer were always destroying her stuff! She finally broke down and invested into a cheap tall standing netting system around the entire veg patch! It's been about 10-years now, and she's kept it up. Been able to keep out all those deer with huge yearly yields of her veg! 😇
Sprinkling cayenne pepper is a go to deterrent for me. I have more squirrels and deer in my area, but I can’t imagine a slug would want to get cayenne pepper on itself.
🌸🌼🌺🌻 I love watching your garden updates!! It’s an inspiration to me as I am also a gardener and RUclips creator. l’m harvesting my first fruits and veggies so exciting! I wish you a happy harvest! I still have so much to learn and I appreciate your tips, tricks! Please Keep sharing! I would love to learn more about gardening from each other.
It all looks wonderful Tanya. Slugs have taken all my peas and I've now got another lot in that I grew first inside. I was thinking of getting nematodes for them? I hate looking at them when in traps. They've cost me so many veg seedlings this year already. I love all your videos, thankyou for the inspiration.
I like the look of your polytunnel, it’s like an in between of a greenhouse and plastic covered polytunnel. How big is it and Where did you get it from? Your home garden is really coming along.
Hi Tanya. Your garden is really coming along. I was just wondering since your home garden is so big and has you very busy had you considered giving up the allotment garden? It must be hard dividing your time between the two spaces.
Neem oil is not a fungicide or a cure all for plants. It's used as an insecticide since it kills bugs by confusing them and stops them from eating ever again. They starve to death after being exposed to neem oil. Both pests and good insects like bees, butterflies, and ladybirds. I avoid using neem oil in the open garden and rarely use it in the greenhouse or on container plants.
Butternut squash doesn't grow well in the open on the isle of man, Hmmm. I wonder why? I just use the iron pellets for slugs. The amount of iron in the soil here.... The occasional handful of iron pellets won't effect the ecosystem.
@@Lovelygreens so while you do have a longer growing season than here (6 months), you don't get hotter weather. I'm trying to grow everything that we get enough growing degree units for. But with cooler weather, that won't always work.
Oh Maggie... 😇 I think she honestly believes that you're doing all this hard work for her! 😂 It's "Maggie's Garden"... Maybe consider changing the name of your YT channel 😂😅 (J/k)😉 She's so adorable 🥰❤️💯 Always a joy seeing her in your videos!😻🐈⬛
You are going to be a busy girl getting all those plants in the ground/potted. Cats and dirt 🤷♀️i know we should say soil, just sounds silly talking about cats. And yes, who doesn’t love butternuts 🤔
how lovely your garden is its coming on a treat well done tanya
I always enjoy a walk in the garden...Love your latest project.
Such a beautiful place. Thank you for another amazing video. And I can't wait to try baiting slugs , all of your suggestions have really helped.
You're very welcome and good luck!

What a difference your polycrub is making!! Party-going beer slugs.. Loving it!
I love Maggie so much 😭 ❤️
She's ridiculously cute 😍

Those guys are nuts! So crazy to think of the speeds they hit on our ordinary roads
Love everything!!! Looks great.
I love maggies outlook on life…she sees opportunity everywhere…😂❤
The world is her playground 😂
thats a funny crazy kitty you have. lol.
Would love to have a greenhouse constructed like yours.

It was Huw, great idea
I wish I'd have spotted that before! It certainly works 🤣
I also put compost on soil in my tunnel today.
goals!!!
Wow girl that is excellent…. I just made a self watering system which I’d working a real treat …all cost less than £5
I'm growing Green Sausage which is also a bush determinate. Remember not to prune off the suckers of the Creamy Sausage as that's where most the fruit will form.
Your new beds are AWESOME!!!
We're happy with them too 😊
The polly crib is the best just needs a seat a tablet for listening to radio plays or audible and of coarse big tea mug hmmmm
Schnexagon might help. Greatings from Germany

I love all your information , it’s a great channel👍🏼🥰🌸
Thanks Alice :)
Excellent video as always. Slugs are having a go at my dahlia leaves at the moment, very annoying.
Back to Eden solution is to wood chip it all around the trunk about 6 to 7” deep and will cure the sick tree. 35 feet in diameter

Get a black like and shine it at night in the dark and slugs glow! Then you pick them off and feed them to the chickens and birds!

I've not tried nematodes since it can be an expensive option. If you're on top of reapplying it, I've heard excellent things, tho!
I've learned slugs don't like woody mulch if that helps.
hydrated lime will keep slugs off burns them won't cross it i use in my tomatoes
Have you tried coffee grounds around the plants, but make sure you don't leave any gaps or they will get through.
Sluggo and Sluggo plus are organic and get rids
Is
Snails slugs etc
I like the look of your polytunnel, it’s like an in between of a greenhouse and plastic covered polytunnel. How big is it and Where did you get it from? Your home garden is really coming along.
It's called a Polycrub and is perfect for gardening in most parts of Britain 😍 Here's more information on it: ruclips.net/video/24Hy5OJ7yO4/видео.html
Thank you, it looks in between a polytunnel and greenhouse. I shall take a look at the link you have sent.
Maggie made me laugh out loud when she tried to play with your arm lololol how about scouring pads the green ones
Hi Tanya. Your garden is really coming along. I was just wondering since your home garden is so big and has you very busy had you considered giving up the allotment garden? It must be hard dividing your time between the two spaces.
It's something that I'm thinking about this year...we'll see how it goes for now! If it gets too much, I'll pass the space back to the allotment :)
Have you tried Neem oil sprayed on your plum tree. A natural product
Neem oil is not a fungicide or a cure all for plants. It's used as an insecticide since it kills bugs by confusing them and stops them from eating ever again. They starve to death after being exposed to neem oil. Both pests and good insects like bees, butterflies, and ladybirds. Love it's ❤️ 🌱🌱🌱☕️🌄
I keep removing lower leaves to discourage slugs. My toads and chipmunks love to eat slugs
Butternut squash doesn't grow well in the open on the isle of man, Hmmm. I wonder why?
I just use the iron pellets for slugs. The amount of iron in the soil here.... The occasional handful of iron pellets won't effect the ecosystem.
Because it's not warm/sunny enough for butternut squash
@@Lovelygreens so while you do have a longer growing season than here (6 months), you don't get hotter weather.

It looks superb! So much things to do and enjoy in your garden! Will you still need the allotment is the question? :D Happy points for Maggie!
It's very likely! They're voracious munchers 😂
Have you tried salt to eliminate slugs. My mom in Kerala, India used to have big issues one time.
salt also kill plants
would you be able to grow 🌽 in the poly tunnel?
Maybe, but they need wind for pollination
Where can you get the black auto pots from?
They're available in the UK through AutoPot autopot.co.uk/ -- not sure about outside the UK
Are you going to terrace the area under the black plastic?
I think some simple steps and then the rest as a perennial border. Still deciding but probably not terracing.
Oh Maggie... 😇

She's my little baby / garden demon 😹 Her antics are too amusing for me to be angry at the devastation in her wake!
❤️😘
👍💚
💖😊💖
Slugs will eat the older leavesonly
If only that were true! They LOVE newly emerged leaves, such as dahlia leaves, and seedlings.
They eat all of my leaves. They don't discriminate 😂😇😁
Get a hedgehog to munch through all your slugs.
You are going to be a busy girl getting all those plants in the ground/potted. Cats and dirt 🤷♀️i know we should say soil, just sounds silly talking about cats. And yes, who doesn’t love butternuts 🤔
I'm stressing about having enough beds for them all 😂
