      I wouldn’t say his relationship with Qui-gon led him to the dark side. I’d blame that on the arrogance of the Jedi council. If they had been better at actually being stewards of peace and protecting all then he wouldn’t have grown disillusioned with the Order. But I guess he saw qui-gon’s death as a fault of the council (partly) somehow so I guess there’s that

      To be fair, the Jedi Council sucked and everything that happened is because of them. They believed the Sith were eradicated, they sensed the fear and darkness in Anakin and instead of trying to nurture him, pushed him away and caused him to walk down a dark path. Even Dooku himself didn't really see himself as a Sith, but he hated what the Jedi became and wanted to change it. IIRC.

    Count Dooku really was unique among dark side users. It wasn't about power for power's sake like Maul or Sidious. It wasn't out of selfishness or possessiveness like Anakin. It was out of righteous anger taken too far. You could rationalize it, but only to a point where you'd have to agree that you are willing to do the wrong thing for the right reasons.

    • @xxTheFlyingPigxx
      @xxTheFlyingPigxx 9 месяцев назад +121

      I think it was at first. But at a certain point he definitely just accepted the Dark Side fully and was evil for the fun of it. The Clone Wars has so many scenes were he smiles as he kills innocent people, not to mention what we learned in Bad Batch about Sirenno -Dooku was stealing resources from his own world just like all the corrupt dictators he claimed to hate.

    • @Rolf-son-of-an-electrician
      @Rolf-son-of-an-electrician 9 месяцев назад +45

      Or... maybe they just made all this up after the fact and Dooku was never a complex character till they ran out of main-line characters to spin off.
      Lukus didn't even have plans past the original trilogy. The entire clone wars was based off a throw-away line by Old Ben.
      Don't give these guys too much credit, it's just professional fan fiction. When people over analyze this stuff they set the bar too high and get disappointed.
      Star Wars was NEVER a masterpiece. It scratched an itch. That's all it was. a casual, everyman's fantacy drama. They used a future easthetic instead of the same old dragons and castles.
      All good stuff, but this isn't meant to be War and Peace.

      @@Rolf-son-of-an-electricianmaybe you don’t know how to look deeper. there are many themes in star wars that can be quite profound to a mind willing and curious to analyze them. this scene alone delves into morality, the nature of man vs. the nature of order’s created by man, and righteousness just to name the few that came to my head.
      i think you just havent though about star wars like this because it’s not your cup of tea, which is totally fine. some themes resonate more with different people, the themes of star wars just might not resonate with you.
      i haven’t even enjoyed star wars since the prequels btw, so im not like a crazed sw fan or anything, you’re logic is just dumb. you are taking your point of view and saying it is the definitive viewpoint on star wars, lower your ego a tad.
      what is wrong with adding backstory for a character long after the character’s introduction? is this not a good thing? we got a good story out of it. i don’t see how this is an issue to you.

      @jasonsenter1646 9 месяцев назад +7

      @@mapowey You are right about Star Wars having many great themes but the guy you responded to isn’t wrong either. Star Wars is overrated because of its amazing aspects but it has just as many, if not more things that drag it down. The inconsistencies throughout all of the movies to the horrible dialogue in the prequels to the messy plots in the prequels to the decisions certain characters make being downright awful and not making any sense whatsoever. Most of the Star Wars movies are so messy and just aren’t that good overall despite having great specific scenes. But a few scenes can’t save a whole messy movie.

      Except where Anakin lost control of his emotions, Dooku you can see he has some control over his, he had a good cause for being on the dark side, it's pretty much the "Anti-Hero" art of storytelling where Dooku's actions while honorable can be viewed by the masses as something evil. Even in the short Dooku doesn't even try to kill any of the other guards he knocks them down keeping them alive, Anakin however went to massacre an entire village leaving zero survivors, similar to what would have happened to the village in the clip by the guy Dooku was force choking.

      The Jedi Order's problem is Yoda. No being can weild that kind of power for centuries without becoming complacent at best or corrupt at worst. He has no idea that it's overtaken him; he no longer sees all the little cumulative evils that the republic tolerates and fosters, from slavery to endless wars, and he never asks, "Why are we not acting to stop this?" Live alongside corruption for too long and you no longer notice the stench. The Jedi cannot help the slaves of Tatooine but they can help the slavemasters.

      Dooku is in many ways a perfect sympathetic villain because the /only/ reason that he becomes the villain is that the story isn't about him. Flat out.
      Dooku didn't join the Sith to become a true Sith. Dooku joined Sidious because Sidious promised him change, and he began to undermine sidious once he realized that Sidious' 'change' was little better.
      Dooku is the dark path for "With great power comes great responsibility." He lived and died by that motis, and it's the fault of the POV character being Anakin that we see him die.
      Here's him talking about the Jedi to Sidious, in one of the prequel novelizations.
      He doesn't repeat the classic spider-man mantra word for word but it's pretty much exactly the core message; Dooku fell because he believed the Jedi had a moral obligation they were not fulfilling. And in the novelization for revenge of the sith, Yoda realizes duirng his battle with Sidious the exact thing that Sidious is preaching above.
      Yoda realizes that the Jedi had become complacent and were blind to the idea that their great enemy had not done so

    Count dooku was the perfect example of someone controlling his anger and the dark side, I mean I never rally saw him fight with anger ( dont mind this scene i mean rots ) i just love it

    There is a massive difference between a fall and a choice. Dooku never fell to the Dark Side. He choose a path that would either bring the future he could live with or he will die trying. Dooku is very much like Kain from the Legacy of Kain series.

    Dooku is honestly one of my favorite sith. He embraced the Darkside, not just for selfish means. He never strayed from who he was, he kept control and was ready to do anything to stomp out corruption. Whether here, or within the Jedi.

    This scene was so powerful. It was heartbreaking to see these people who had been suffering for so long be fired upon and Dooku put himself in the middle to try and save them.

    You know, the crazy part is that count dooku wasn't actually evil. He never actually let himself completely fall to the dark side, you can tell by his motives and his eyes that he was still in control of himself the whole time. Although he was part of the separatist and used the dark side, he wasn't exactly evil. He just wanted to eradicate corruption, bring order, and keep the Jedi order as peacemakers and not war indulgers.

    Still love the fact that dooku could be summarized as you are bad guy. But that does not mean you are bad guy. Man only turned dark side cause he wanted to truly make the universe a better place. He had no intention or interest in power.

    Doodu had very complex reasoning and emotions into his fall that was brought to the character by the AMAZING acting of Sir Christopher Lee... an amazing man who lead an AMAZING life..... let us NEVER let his memory die for he was there for so many of us growing up (he did have 60 years of career)
