- If it had been a speech about defence, it might have made more sense. But Rishi Sunak had no new policy offerings in todays pronouncement - he warned of a scary future under Starmer - then started talking about football shirts, ozempic, civic duty, literacy, and optimism.
It was, in essence, an electioneering speech - criticising labour for blaming the Tories for the last 14 years.
Meanwhile his Common Sense Minister Esther McVey has gone to war on the office lanyard.
Later, will former lawyer and indeed felon Michael Cohen make or break Trump when he appears in court this week?

Referring to someone as “little” is very disparaging to short people. I agree that he is vile but as someone who is married to a man who isn’t very tall I fail to understand why this phrase is used. He’s definitely a gruesome individual.

Meanwhile a primary school in his Richmond constituency failed to raise £15,000 for it's own IT suite.
Odd....I thought he was transferring money from deprived areas to help support the very rich areas.....has he even failed at doing that 😂

He talks about authoritarian states like Russia as a threat yet he also threatens to join Russia and Belarus as the only European nations not members of the International court that is the European Court of Human Rights. Sunak and his government are the biggest threat to our values.
Be afraid of authoritarian states - so afraid you let the government take away all your human rights protection!

It'll be much better for the British people, just like replacing the common market and trade deals of the EU with all those wonderful new Great British trade deals has made our economy so much better.

Govt speeches should be made in parliament where they can be scrutinised by elected MPs, not by client journalists.
Journalist have long since taken over the role of Parliamentary scrutiny. Most of the losers that we have elected lack the technical skills to scrutinise anything properly.

Esther McVey and her husband could start by giving up the London home we pay for through MP expenses and move into the London home they own which they currently rent out. Now that would be common sense.

What amazes me is how transparent it is. My wife literally asked me last night ‘is that all they have left’?
We are 25 months into the Russo-Ukraine war and 18 months since the Kharkiv and Kherson counter-offensives showed that Ukraine had the potential to not just defend itself but push Russia out of its territory, which intimated that the war would be longer and costlier than first imagined.
Yet only know is there any discussion by the Tories of increasing defence spending. Absolutely pathetic, more so, if we take Sunak's words at face value.

Rishi Sunak is so concerned about defence that he appointed GRANT SHAPPS as defence minister and instructed him to reinstate the private ministerial helicopter contract costing £40 million that Ben Wallace cancelled.
Unlikely. There's no Corbyn dragging the Labour party down and the majority are probably happier to vote in a more moderate Labour party. The Tories have had their time.

Sunak doesn’t get that it’s not Labour telling people that everything is broken, people are looking out their windows and seeing it for themselves. The British electorate are a stubborn lot, they don’t shift opinion easily, but once it’s shifted it sticks.

Defence has almost always been better under Labour. The Falklands war was a consequence of defence cuts under Thatcher, for example.
