NUC stands for Not Under Command (vessel is not moving(anchored/moored/aground))
RAM stands for Restricted in Ability to Maneuver( vessel is sitting deep on the water or if you are on a narrow channel or passing thru shallow water where it is hard for you to control the vessel)
During voyage at night we make sure that the bridge is as dark as possible so we can adjust our eyes to the darkness outside. We normally turn it on when were docked/anchored or moored
