    This reminds me of an old radio comedy sketch my dad still has a recording of, based upon the British army supposedly developing a new prototype superweapon described as a "jet-propelled, laser-guided, intercontinental ballistic NAAFI".
    For those of you not aware, the NAAFI (Navy Army and Air Force Institute) is essentially the official "corner shop" of the British armed forces, providing our troops with small comforts to remind them of home whilst on deployment. Anywhere there's a large number of British military personnel outside of British territory, you'll probably find a NAAFI set up to cater to them.
    The radio sketch, therefore, starts on the idea that a NAAFI could be launched by rocket from the home islands to almost anywhere in the world, and be functional, within minutes, thus making it functionally impossible to beat British soldiers by trying to demoralize them, and supposedly making our military unbeatable. The rest is all about various groups trying to steal or destroy the blueprints for the new weapon, and the humour of the sketch actually holds up fairly well even today.

    • @jesseli9868
      @jesseli9868 5 лет назад +1

      Eric W. wait but rockets to the ISS are definitely guided, you kind of need that precision to hit a target that's moving several kilometres a second several hundred kilometres away

    • @drmaulana2600
      @drmaulana2600 5 лет назад

      Jesse Li well...the rocket that bring the module to ISS isnt guided like you guide a car or an airplane to certain direction, and if you ever see the astronaut onboard the rocket during launch, they didnt do anything.
      becayse everything is calculated before, the trajectory of the rocket ,etc. so when the rocket is launched, both of the ground control and the pilot just sit and watch.
      oh yea...when the rocket have reach a certain heights, they detach from the main module and head back to earth, and that module is guided by astronaut onboard to approach and dock the ISS

    During world war one. The British actually used a similar system. They used rockets to deliver orders and information back to high command. Unfortunately it didn't work as it either destroyed the information or had the unintended effect of killing the recipients. On the other hand it has the unintended effect of fast tracking several people military careers up the British army ranks
